It was surprisingly heartfelt for Puyo Puyo. Usually when characters give their goodbyes at the end of a game like this, it's hard to take seriously because there's always the likelyhood that characters will be asspulled back in for fan demand. But because the Tetra crew are so closely associated with Tetris, a game Sega doesn't own and can't do what they please with without appealing to another company, there's actually a realistic chance that they'll never ever see each other again. Having Ringo start to develop feelings for Tee felt especially ballsy of the writers because of this.

Highest level Puyo involves reading your opponent and baiting them to trigger their long chain first so you can counter them with a bigger chain, unless they saw that coming and you fell for their bait. It's not even just that, a lot of it is the way garbage works. You see JPs purposely taking garbage they know doesn't kill them when they play Tetris all the time since they can easily down stack it and even transform it into a back to back attack. As a Puyo player you pretty much have no choice but to stay on the defense against a good Tetris player, if you try to attack they can simply take the hit and retaliate tenfold or if you make a huge chain just counter it straight up. The choice on how the match progresses rests entirely with the Tetris player since he can react so much more quickly and is constantly in so much less danger than the one on the Puyo side.
It's really just a terrible match up and shouldn't really be played competitively, just stick to Swap, TvT, PvP, or TPvTP if you have 4 players.

It takes some adjusting to get into the right mindset for it, and it doesn't help that the first couple chapters are weak for the most part and full of lines that feel like they're just padding out scenes, but there's a few pretty entertaining moments sprinkled into the second half of the game. Almost any scene with Schezo in it is often gold just for the kinds of shit they could get away with.
