I play through 1 and 2+notr like, once a year and it never gets old. These games are amazing if you like low fantasy rpgs that actually encourage exploration.

Sure it has plenty of issues; weird controls, lots of bugs, balance issues, whatever. But it's a really well fleshed out world and I find something new every time I go back. The characters are great, even the MC feels like he has actual personality. There's plenty good there if you're not turned off by old games with their own issues.

Skyrim is popular because it appeals to the lowest common denominator of consumers that don't have the patience for an actual story, exploration, or questing beyond "follow the glowing arrow at the top of your screen, fast travel there if you want". It gives instant gratification the same way a fucking facebook game does.

Even when it comes to the combat, sure Gothic has PLENTY of issues, but at least there was more to it than just holding forward and swinging until something falls over because the entire world scales with you and nothing is difficult.

Scavengers, that's what we call the big birds, should be attacked one after another.
It's easy to lure single scavengers from the pack. If you come too close they'll become agitated, after a while they will storm towards your direction, and you should be waiting for them, with a raised weapon. If you strike the beast before it hits you, you have to keep fighting to be able to defeat the creature. If it hits you first, well just don't let them.

Help me out here /v/, I tried getting into the first game and yet I get immensely bored every single time within the first hour - first five hours margin without a fail. I just can't put my finger on what it is that does it.

Is it the lack of colors (everything is brown, pukish yellow or grey)? Is it the god awful voice-acting that they shouldn't have even bothered with if they're just going to half ass it? Is terrible controls? Is the poor pacing (they throw everything at you in the very first camp, go there, go here, talk to that person and then that and that, also decide which camp you want to join etc etc.)?

I'm sure there's a decent RPG underneath all of that but you have to go through so much shit to get to it so I don't know if it's worth it.

You make small choices here and there and 2 or 3 major choices and it's incredibly engaging as a story, but take away the cutscenes and dialogue and you're just left with running from point a to point b with combat at both ends and in between

gothic games are designed to feel more like a living world with real life logic to quest sructure. gothic is actually roleplaying, witcher 3 is playing a part in a good movie. You do understand the difference? They offer different experiences

I wanted to join the Swamp Camp because of their cool armor but they were pretty crazy so I joined the New Camp. They had the second best armor and lots of bros. Plus I liked the adobe style town inside the cave.
