Cold Steel is kinda lacking in typical Kiseki tragic backstories now that I think about it. The worst we have is Crow, and Rean tries to pretend like he's a PTSD war veteran who stared into the deepest pits of hell, but ultimately "grandpa died" or "I killed a monkey" are pretty low tier.

It's kind of sad that Cold Steel introduced so many characters for the main party, yet all of them are so uninteresting. My fondness of each character was based off of which characters were the least annoying/best eye-candy.

Also because of bonding events and the game focusing so much on our Lord and savior Rean, they rarely have any meaningful/interesting interactions with each other. I always found it kind of weird how they all seemed to care about Crow so much when I felt like they barely even knew him.

Olivier is clearly aimed squarely at Schera in Sky. Olivier hits on everything that moves except his platonic drinking buddy Zin and brainless bimbos like Estelle, but it's only with Schera where he actually feels sincere.

Usually he's pretty obviously messing with people; Mueller is just the most frequent target because he's always nearby. Agate and Joshua also get it a lot for pretty much the same reason, and going by 3rd, Richard isn't safe from his Jormungandr either.

I wouldn't say they are a "joke". They are definitely worse than the Sky cast, but I've seen so much worse.

For example, who here played Tales of Graces? How people seem to think of Rean and CS I think of Asbel and Graces. The CS cast isn't anything noteworthy but I don't consider them to be genuinely bad either. There are some awful JRPG casts out there to the point I can at least somewhat appreciate the CS cast. CS is just a massive drop in quality after Sky so it seems extra shitty.

Unrelated but I really hope the final game has some bullshit boss rush where you fight every Enforcer in sequence, starting with the last and building up to Loewe/McBurn/Campy.

Dead or absent ones could be replaced with robots (like in SC, against Joshua) or Grimoires, or just set it somewhere like Phantasma or a computer program where it doesn't really matter anyway.

The fight in 3rd against Walter Bleublanc and Lucy made me harder than steel, since I felt so disappointed when SC built up to that only to have Richard and Cid come in and cuck everyone.
