Scope is really big, they already have a few good pieces working.

At worst they just need to polish one point really hard and release it so people can enjoy at least one core gameplay loop.

Think of minecraft, people were going nuts over that game and it was half baked for years.

For the scope of a project that Star Citizen team is working on, I can accept failure, they're really trying to push the edge hnere.

That aside I haven't put a dime into this yet, I just hope it ends well.

I can get people wanting to support such a project by buying it early access (I wouldn't do it personally because I prefer to buy finished game, but whatever). But SC bakers are just insane. They're paying $100+ for "ships" that are not even available yet. You're paying for a single line in a database that may or may not eventually give you the privilege of using a ship. Not that you even know what you're going to do with this ship in the end.

And while they made a shit ton of money they're probably burning through it pretty fast. A few millions a month at least. And given how slowly they progress I'm pretty sure we're aimed for a pretty epic shitstorm. It might even end up dwarfing NMS.

"indie" is generally with alternative, low budget titles as opposed to blockbuster AAA titles. Super Meat Boy and early Minecraft are what comes to mind when people talk about indie game.
