TFT honestly like I don't even play Warcraft 3 melee games I only play custom, but I remember one time trying to make a map in the vanilla editor for shits and giggles and realized just how much TFT added to custom games. It blew me the fuck away. I originally had only bought the expansion for the added story, but WC3 customs basically defined my life during middle and high school.

I kind of want to go back to WC3 and start making maps again, but I imagine it's pretty dead. I had a terrible work ethic back then and never actually finished anything, but I'm pretty sure I could see a project to completion nowadays.

Blood Dragon was pretty interesting and manageable, considering I have no interest in Far Cry to begin with. And it was short, so I didn't really have to worry about it's overall shallowness. The Primal ones were pretty cool though.

I never got that into D2 back in the day my best character was a level 70-something Zeal Paladin with bloodletter, but this is a feel I wish I could have felt.

Got real into D2 singleplayer recently, though. With PlugY mod for DClone and ladder runewords. Got a HotO (pure fucking luck, got a Pul AND Vex while farming NM Baal), Arach's, Enigma (~20 hours of lower kurast), shako, and some other nice stuff using Meteorb. It was fun just going through /p8 alvl 80+ zones, honestly didn't expect farming to actually be as fun as it was. Meph runs and LK chest spamming were cancer, but the rest was genuinely fun.

I also got a HoZ which didn't help me, but that I remember really wanted back when I was playing aforementioned zealot pally on B.net.

it was ethereal anyways and it's not like I'm gonna get a zod any time soon

Saints Row IV as a Saints Row The third expansion is pretty rad. Enter the dominatrix was the best excuse to make the whole superpowers add-on. Gat out of hell is a nice expansion as well. But the way it was implemented and today's market sucks.

On the note of the end-game farming being fun, I've been playing NiOh recently, and despite the gameplay being a lot better than D2, its endgame sucks fucking ass by comparison.

You just get whatever cheese build will instakill whatever boss you want to farm, then spam the same mission over and over for gear, salvage that gear, then savescum re-rolling. So 90% of your time getting better gear is just spent sitting in a reforge menu, rerolling the shitty stats, instead of actually playing the game. And when you ARE playing the game, it's spent cheesing the same boss over and over.

A version of NiOh where the best method of acquiring new gear was actually playing the game, similar to how in D2 playing through alvl 85 zones was a genuinely good way to get gear, would be fucking sweet.

It's surprising to me how despite being so influential, few games really learned from D2's loot system.

I mostly end up playing by myself when I play b.net because I don't like the D2 lobby games that are always just people rushing through at max speed. Even if you make something like "a1 questing" some chucklefuck will join after 10 minutes and open a TP to cata4. So I figure singleplayer will just be the same as b.net, but without lag or checking out d2jsp for all the things I will never be able to afford.

Not him but I did play the fuck out of bnet D2 but the 1.10 patch killed the fun for me due to total idiocy like enigma and some synergies creating extremely overpowered and mindless builds, which ruined the dueling scene. Later on I wanted to check out what became of the game but apparently all my characters were "frozen" due to inactivity and no longer selectable, completely retarded.

I hated 1.10 for a long time, but eventually got used to it.

I mostly hated it because I used to play sorcs and 1.10 fucked them over hard.

I didn't care that much about runewords because I wasn't into PvP, so stuff like "you absolutely must have these super rare runewords for your build to be viable" didn't completely fuck me over, but I agree that the runewords were kinda shitty.

Been playing Morrowind recently and desu this.

also replaying Morrowind and Oblivion at the same time made me realize something and I get that another thing about how Morrowind is better than Oblivion is not exactly the most profound thing ever, but

mercantile and speechcraft just totally do not work as skills in Oblivion. In Oblivion, the main thing that matters is how powerful you are, relative to what level you are because of level-scaling. In Morrowind, how powerful you are relative to how much progress you've made in the game is what matters. So using high speechcraft and mercantile to get more training or better gear with less gold, and to go up levels while doing it? That's great. In Oblivion, if mercantile or speechcraft are contributing to 1/7th of your Major Skill increases, you're fucking yourself over because you're increasing the enemy's levels without increasing your character's strength at all.

Making a character who uses mercantile or speechcraft to advance themselves through the game's economy is a viable thing in Morrowind (assuming you're not going to cheese/exploit the game with stuff like drain skill 100pts for 1gold training, soultrap glitch, fortify stamina effects, alchemy in general, etc.) while in Oblivion you're just gonna fuck yourself over if you invest a lot of levels into those skills.

Same thing with Athletics/Acrobatics in Morrowind being nice. They level you up (which is a good thing in Morrowind) and are convenient skills to have. but Acrobatics as a major skill just fucks you over in Oblivion because leveling up faster isn't good, and again if 1/7th of your major skill-ups aren't combat-relevant, that's Bad. In Oblivion if you're making a warrior who will never cast a single spell, it's better to get Alteration, Conjuration, and Destruction as major skills than it is to get Speechcraft, Mercantile, and Acrobatics, even though the latter 3 are skills you would actually use and benefit from.
