Only input I can give is to stay away from FFXIV because it's filled with horrible design choices that are accumulating to the point where it's killing the playerbase due to scaring/burning out new players and their solution? Potions to skip poorly designed content and to hit the max level of the previous expansion.

A common meme you'll hear is "It gets better when you're level 50!" which then turns into "It gets better in Savage Raids or Ext Trials!" Pic related is one of the terrible design choices that they'll probably never fix.

I played it when it came out for GBA, got it for christmas and played the fuck out of it. Alongside II which wasn't good. At all. I just remember not enjoying 2 as much as I enjoyed 1. Which even then I didn't really care for 1, so yeah. 2 Is awful. Don't bother with 2.

I can't think of a single feature of the game that worked, and most of it is genuinely abysmal. The sidequests are probably the worst I've ever seen, in any game. The very core things, combat and story, are huge messes without a fraction of sensible design in sight.
I can't believe you're leaving out I, IV and X-2 out of the list in favor of XV. They at least have some good elements in them

You're aknowledging a huge fucking flaw. If you do that, you can't reccomend it afterwards because you personally liked it. Be objective.
Same with XV

I can only speak for the first 10, but they all have a lot of unavoidable, random battles. Generally they all have difficult-to-follow and ridiculous stories, although I've heard that's because they get localized with shitty, lazy translations.

Compared to Dragon Quest, Tales games, and many other jrpgs, FF games tend to have more serious story lines and heavier themes. But they aren't without their fare share of kawaii bullshit and goofiness.

Be prepared to spend at least 30 hours on any of them except maybe I or II.

VII itself is a great game with memorable character, set pieces, music, and even story. Even to this day, those blocky little character models are instantly recognizable and despite being archaic by video game standards, still hold up pretty well today due to the cartoony nature of it.
Plus the matte painting backgrounds are still gorgeous for a game that's over 20 years old.

That said, all of the expanded FFVII material is just...So fucking bad. The shitty movie, the shitty anime OVA, the shitty-spin off games.
Except for Crisis Core. That was passable.

IV, VI, and VII are the best introductions to the series for a newcomer, unless they want to jump right into multiplayer stuff with XIV.
