Seems like a style choice, but I see what you're saying. It looks surprisingly like a decent 2D animation despite using 3D animation, but then it begs the question of why they're using 3D models and animation in the first place. Could it be cheaper or more expedient than traditional 2D animation? Maybe the talent/workforce pool skews more towards 3D animation.

That's not even an excuse though because 3D is totally capable of imitating 2D with actual proper lighting techniques. Guilty Gear Xrd's entire schitck is 3D that looks like 2D. Even indie modellers are getting into it.

Thats thing, from what I researched what is on bilibili isnt the finished anime but a "teaser". Apparently the studio got a government grant in order to take it from 22 minutes to fully featured and they'll replace Call's VA, so now who knows when the movie will get done.
