All style, no substance, was unfun at 30fps and enjoyable at 60. Pretentious and bland throughout, but neat combat and sometimes enjoyable atmosphere.

It's style over substance. It's main pillars are combat and exploration and it does neither that particularly well
Combat is fun on paper but the 30FPS limit on that makes the game unplayable, especially when FPS drops start showing up. In any game that requires as much focus as HLD, any framedrops at all are inexcusable. The 60FPS patch makes it better (and actually fun) but that's not in any pirated version of the game yet and isn't on consoles (which is how I played it) so it's too little too late
Exploration sucks and hunting for shit is a chore.
While the game looks great, it just isn't enough to carry the game past those two weak pillars

It's good. Beautiful art style and music with fun frenetic gameplay but it's a bit on the short side. People will tell you its locked at 30 fps but that's been patched since release to have it go to 60 so dont listen to them.

To be totally honest you could probably find something better that has more value but HLD is worth your time if you're interested.

I thought the game was well done, the worlds felt empty and atmospheric. the hub village had plenty of interesting things to do. hidden areas werent very well done, usually they were obvious. keys and modules were confusing as shit and hardly paid any attention to them until the very end. the outfit changes were pointless locked away behind aforementioned key module shits. The bosses were fun and challenging the combat was ....GOOD! you could get raped hard but you could be flashy as fuck with proper reflex and strategy. one time i died at a boss and it glitched out so when i went back the boss was dead. the final boss was stupid super easy.the mini bosses were fun. the checkpoint system could screw you if you only had one hp and no nearby medkits. literally have no desire to go back and find all the outfits and weapons i missed, as long as i got my shottie and starting pistol.

This especially. There is nothing indicating there is a secret nearby. You have to hug the walls in every single map and hope you get lucky and find a secret there. There are no visual indicators anywhere.
I'll add that unresponsive controls break a fucking action game. Overall 5/10 eh.

He was the first boss I fought and that fight made me love the game. It's a shame the other bosses weren't as hard.

You have to do a lot of secret hunting to unlock the other combat challenges. HLD does teasers and hints in a fairly textbook game design way, but I'm glad they added additional secret symbols so they aren't so ridiculously obscure.

I loved the game but it's not long enough to justify its full price unless you love it enough to play it a bunch of times through (I did, but it's not like you can tell before buying).

Chain dash timing becomes faster the more you do it, with 4 phases. The first few are at about .25 to .4 seconds or something like that, and past 5 it is more like .15 to .25s as the viable window. If you set up an AHK script to just press space every .25s and put the mouse on the line you will reach 850 dashes, but anything lower or higher and you'll irregularly get between 4 and 6 to work.

I tested this back before 60fps so I dunno if it got changed at some point.

Anyone ever figure out what the green/blue cloak does, or is it still pretend making dashing easier?
