Did you ever bought Video Game Magazines?
>>
>>376953063
Yes. I bought Club Play from 2007 to 2010.
>>
I have literally every single issue of Nintendo Power ever realeased in the US and almost every issue of EGM.
>>
>>376953063
>Did you ever bought
I'll allow it for the sake of a possibly good thread

I won a year long Nintendo power subscription from a write-in contest in the mid 90's. Now I only ever buy individual game informer issues if I like the cover or they cover a game I'm hyped about

Nintendo Power, GameFan, GameNOW/ExpertGamer/EGM2, EGM, Play, Tips and Tricks.

RIP every fucking one of them.

I occasionally buy issues of the two local game magazines, and I'm almost a little ashamed that I haven't been supporting them more with a subscription since those guys are a lot better than any foreign journos, especially ones working for online publications.
Just a couple months ago the older one of the magazines had a special issue celebrating 25 years, that was pretty cool.
>>
>>376955441
Fuck those guys recently i was reading an old as fuck issue and it was downright embarassed how biased they were.

Not a single negative reaction to anything ever. In that specifyic issue there were reacting to Nintendo cutting ties with Rare and they were trying to spin it as something positive
>>
>>376953063
Used to get get Nintendo Power up until the 3ds came out. It was a really comfy magazine and it got me into Dragon Quest. I still remember reading the Pokemon HGSS edition and being so hyped for that game.

I wish it was still around desu.
>>
>>376955174
Yes, surprisingly.
Quality has gone to shit tho, even more than the Wii/GC era, atleast they redeemed themselves a bit in the wii u days (they weren't extreme fanboys like before and accepted
that the Wii U was flawed).
I still buy it sometimes for the posters.
>>
>>376955741

IIRC they were financed by the company that distributed Nintendo products in the country, so of course they were huge shills for even shitty games. The Spanish translation of the Britbong N64/NGC magazine was far superior.
>>
>>376955928
I remember that i finally dropped it by the third time Skyward Sword was on the cover, it was all so fucking repetitive and padded out becuase of the actual lack of games that i coudln't handle it anymore.
>>
>>376953063
man I had those, the earliest issue I had was a special edition of somewhat of an antholgy of sistems like the gameboy, virtual boy etc. Stopped getting them around 04' when the ds came out and eventually just trow them all away.

I have fond memories of Game Informer. Somebody would bring one on the schoolbus and we'd all pass it around. This was back when GI tried to be entertaining and had a lot of jokes and funny captions. It was childish humor but that was what we were at the time.

I picked through a modern issue somewhat recently. The last page had always been a trivia quiz and I wanted to see if they were still doing it. It was there, but rather than trivia questions it was just a snarky passive-aggresive hit piece on Jap games and the people who play them. It came off as really bitter and shallow.
>>
Thanks to CN i got to play Mischief Makers, Snowboard Kids, Tetrisphere and Top Gear Rally.
Good shit.
>>
>>376957840
Different companies producing the magazine. The original lost the "official nintendo" license and another magazine publisher gained it, starting a whole new magazine
>>
>>376962407

i used to buy them all the time before the internet became huge.
after that there was a period where magazines were still useful because they had early game screens and new game scoops.

now game magazines no longer have anything new and are nothing but advertisements and paid reviews.
game informer calling overwatch the "game of the year" was the final nail in the coffin for magazines to me.

I think the youths actually better.

ecelebs are basically a peer group proxy. I mean, all I had to discuss and review video games with is whatever assholes my age happened to be in my podunk town growing up. At least these days they have a choice.

But, to your point, video game journalism is fucking sad and lacking these days.

I like them for the articles. Plus I didn't have any internet access growing up so it was a great way to learn about upcoming games. I don't like how a lot of the articles around like 2004-2010 had this like 'way too cool for you' almost edgy vibe that was present in like EGM and others.
>>
>>376953063

Wii era Nu-Club Nintendo sucked, barely any relevant info and a third of the magazine was covered in ads for children's shit, and they wasted a lot of paged on official art instead of text or in-game screen shoots. Also they never criticized any game, the shovelware was always rated 7.5/10. It was a zombie magazine the last 10 years of it's existence.

More or less at the same time the internet where I live was easily available on hundreds of Cafes with unlimited vydia information so I stopped buying it .
>>
>>376953063
as far back as 1997, any time I walked into a store I'd always buy one. I haven't bought one since around the time the seventh generation rolled in and internet news/reviews started taking over.

Used to. My mains were Nintendo Power, Gamepro, and Tips & Tricks in the late 90s/early 2000s, and EGM later on.

Gamepro was kinda shit for coverage, but every now and then it would have a really decent walkthroughs on games (Their reviews were always kinda trash though).

Tips & Tricks was also great for a lot of import stuff, and had some amazing guides, and had a amazing retro section later on. Then they slowly took out everything decent about it and it wasn't worth it anymore.

EGM was my go-to for reviews and coverage back before I had a PC, and had some damn good articles. They were the one I bought for the longest.

Nintendo Power was decent early on, but it became clear later on that a lot of it felt like a giant advertisement then actual nintendo-focused stuff, and the one I dropped first. Still good for guides and the odd freebie every now and then.

GameInformer was always shit though, never liked them.

I used to have a Nintendo Power subscription in the late 90s and early 00s.

I used to get the UK Nintendo Magazine System. I'd give my left nut for a complete set of scans going up to the N64 era.

I remember doing the cloning method in pkmn Silver version I learned from an issue of CN (didn't bought it, just read it in the gas station that had it)

I also remember how they were speculating Lugia being the fusion of Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres, how Pichu was a female Pikachu

Also their posters were stapled you couldn't take them off without damaging the poster.

I never had the chance to send a postcard with my drawing on it

I remember that they some kid with 3 illegal level 60 Mewtwos win an official tournament and the events were referenced in some reader's letters calling the winner cheater, that kid did send a letter being butthurt about people calling him a cheater and that the mewtwos were legit and he was going to sent the way how to obtain them legally in the games which of course he never did.

They also promised several times to publish a guide to what happened in the Saint Seiya manga where the anime ended cause readers couldn't stop asking them about the Japan only games which of course they never did.

Good times

i missed that about the saint seiya, I couldn't buy all magazines. Sadly they were our only source in videogames in a time were internet was oblivious and lacked of info unlike today

If you see the latest games made by rare and the shit that was yooka layle, maybe they were right.

>those personalities of each one in that show
>thinking that for being adults they loved videogames more than any kid and one day I would be friends with

Im glad I never met them in real life, imagine how heartbroken would be knowing these people just pretended to like videogames

I miss tim and the guys.
It's nice to get a magazine once a month that's all about video games.
NOM was how I found out about Ouendan and Twewy.
But these days it's just a high cost to get your news months late

Only time I ever bought the Xbox magazine was for demos or DLC. There was one time they gave out a bunch of DLC for Oblivion on the disc, which was pretty great.

Then again, I did the same for the Playstation magazine and the MGS3 demo long before the game was even out.
