Tale of Wuxia. It's a raising game ala princess maker and it's pretty great. The devs quickly abandoned the English version and it's pretty rough around the edges though.

Yeah it turns out when you crowd source a translation job without paying you get a shit translation. I wouldn't mind so much if they did just fucking drop all support for the English version without saying anything. There was atleast 2 major patches that had a ton of fixes and content.

I'm pretty salty because they won't even work the major players who translated their commercial product for free to solve the problem even though they want too.

The first was OK. Donnie doesn't have range at all so I don't mind him just being an action character. The sequels just turned everyone into punching bags for Donnie and the plots became ridiculous.
Chinese people don't seem to have a sense of grounding characters in a reality or storybuilding.

i think most of these movies are legit shit.

i watched a few old ones. a few bruce lee films, master of the flying guillotine, one armed swordsman, and crippled fighters. all recommended as master pieces. some new ones. the new ones are obviously better. but there not any better than western knockoffs starring white characters. like the old ones are legit 1/5 trash while new ones bounce around 2.5/5.

a few common things these movies have.

real bad fucking acting. bruce lee is a stiff and awkward actor for example. so is wang yu.

poor cinematography. some of these movies have obviously poor film quality. like the film is literally damaged and they just rolled with it.

poor combat sequences. there's some pretty obviously fake effects and scenes where actors obviously faking the punches they take or dont even connect to another actor's face. obviously poor props are common too.

there's like one or two exceptions like this guy points out. but its not worth exploring the genre for

You won't be able to fully enjoy it anyway since the expansion they've added some time ago is ching chong only, but the game is playable as it is and pretty fun if you can see past the rough edges. It's Princess Maker with waifus and martial arts, what's not to like?
