fire emblem awakening had something like this. Lunatic+ mode was nearly impossible for the first 3 levels, but it actually becomes manageable once you get to do the DLC stage that lets you farm for XP indefinitely.

I feel bad I supported this but it really is the only legit way to clear that mode since otherwise you are just at the mercy of RNG crits the whole time.
