That's true though.

You literally lose nothing in Dark Souls for being invaded, Embers get thrown around as if they were nothing. Progress doesn't really reset either due bonfires every 10m. In Demons Souls it was more annoying and you had a reason to shit yourself because your progress could be reset since the only "bonfires" where at the boss rooms of the area. It could reset you for at least 30mins if you got invaded.

I guess it depends whether you enjoy fighting against other players or not. I always run around embered up for the thrill of actually getting invaded. If you don't want to get invaded you don't even need to use an ember and can just stay unembered until the boss room.

Boletaria has good shortcuts easily
The mines 1 and 2 have big shortcuts as well
Defilement also had good shortcuts for both bosses.
Cant remember latria very well but I know the maneaters werent hard to run to after you unlocked everything.
Mantaskellies does not but is real quick if you just run it and know where to fall, kind of like TotG which also has no shortcut.

gank squads aren't the problem, it's the fact that they can just retreat and estus that is the problem.

dark souls 2 fixed this by making it so phantoms couldn't estus or lifegem when there was an invader in the world, so you could actually gankspank, so a skilled player could still wear down the opposition, and with more stamina costing rolls, a retreating player could be better punished.

This is no longer the case, with better rolls that cost less stam in DS3, a skilled player faces insurmountable odds if against a group if the enemy group isn't completely autistic, because they can just trade until low and retreat with rollspam that could have been punished in dark souls 2, the odds are even more so difficult if they are using a password and are "level scaled."

If you wanted a fair 1v1, there's designated PvP areas. I'd say most invaders are forcefully invading someones game with nothing to lose and everything to gain, having all the enemies on the map on their side and crying foul when the host uses everything at their disposal to not lose progress.
