So I just finished Prey and I loved the feeling of immersion it had.
Exploring a credible world that reacts to your actions in first person.

What are some similar games when it comes to immersion? I heard STALKER?
>>
Metro 2033
>>
So is it actually a decent game?

I'm quite interested.

How's it run on PC?
>>
>>376929630

Odd, I had that broken for me in 10 mins playing the demo and exloring the bathroom。
>>
>>376929826
Really well actually. Doesn't require much.
>>
>>376929826
Ran fine on my GTX 970
>>
>>376929630
What you are looking for is called "immersive sim"

Ultima Underworld, System Shock 1 and 2, Deus Ex, Thief 1 and 2, VtM Bloodlines, Dark Messiah, all 3 STALKERs, Dishonored
>>
>>376929898
Thanks man. Played Deus Ex back in the day and loved it. Will look up for all theses.
>>
God damn the Bethesda shills have been out in full force ever since Dishonoured 2 flopped.
>>
>>376929630
The last game I was fully immersed in was Fallout New Vegas. You should check that one out.
>>
>>376929826
like butter, I have an old 670 and it runs very well on high
>>
>>376930057
Yeah played that already. One of my favorite games. Writing was also excellent.
>>
>>376929630
Space Rangers, SR2 HD is on Steam.
>>
>>376929826
Nice reddit spacing. You pick that up while shilling there?
>>
>>376929826
Yes it is actually a decent game, call me a shill or whatever the fuck but its a legitimately good game. The whole ship is pretty open as soon as you get the general access card, which is like an hour deep into the game tops. Plenty of different ways to approach things. A whole bunch of side shit to do. I recommend playing on hard and limiting yourself to just the human neuromods to get a feel of how tense this game can really be
>>
I'm really glad this game is flopping.
>>
>>376930015
I bet most of the people that like Arkane's games hate Bethesda as a publisher and as a developer.

It has nothing to do with shills, Dishonored 2 and Prey are good games whether you like it or not.
>>
>>376930339
It's not.
>>
>>376929630
Alien: Isolation, AvP2.
>>
>>376929898
>>376929630
I'd add Arx Fatalis if you're ok with an underground setting.
>>
>>376930339
what games have you played recently tortanic-kun
>>
>>376930385
Yeah I picked this game up because I liked the first prey and I knew Arkane has the potential to make good games like dishonored

What I did not expect though was a full blown system shock lite. Really impressed desu
>>
>>376930073
Any heavy framedrops at any time? Got a 680, and i do wanna try it.
>>
>>376930563
Prey, thinking about what a masterpiece Prey 2 would have been if Bethesda didn't cancel it for a shitty Bioshock clone
>>
>>376930984
He just fucking told you it runs fucking fine, what kind of fucking answer are you expecting you fucking retard, if anything just fucking go and torrent it you stupid piece of shit.
>>
>>376930645
And I'd say that's precisely because Bethesda did a really bad job at marketing the game.

It seemed that most people thought it was going to be some horror shooter like Alien Isolation or some Half-Life-style FPS.

It doesn't help that "Immersive Sim" is not a widely known term.

>>376930984
It runs well on my 670, 60fps with all on ultra.
But if I keep the textures on ultra I have horrible pop-in. I guess a 680 is better for that.
>>
I just got to psychotronics after looking around everywhere I could possibly go. How far through am I? Will I get more abilities to deal with tough fights other than goop glue and shotgun to the face?

Prey 2017 is awful to be honest,
but do check out the STALKER trilogy. Here's its rookie guide to get ya started smoothly.
>>
>>376931290
You're barely out of the first act of the game, you're up to the part where you unlock the other half of your skill trees.

Nice, I wasted a lot of time exploring the shuttle bay and all the other locked areas after getting general access, so I've racked up a fair few hours already. Good to know that it gets varied, right now it feels like I'm going through medkits like a hot knife through butter with phantoms replacing the mimics as normal enemies.

Alright, so I finished it five minutes ago. Got the best ending I believe, as the 4 Operators by Alex in the post-credit sequence all speaked positively of me, and I shook is hand. Shame we didn't see what we looked like as a Typhon.

Kinda think I was right to try to spare Earth, Alex was well-meaning but mistaken, January's speech on the bridge convinced me to destroy the station. Can you scan the Apex if you go outside? What does it says?

>>
The game is great
I'm constantly shitting myself of what will pop in front of me, so I progress slowly in sneak with the psychoscope. Also I scavenge everything I can because there are never enough resources.
Playing on hard helps, as most enemies will 3-shoot me, even mimics, so not getting hit is crucial.
>>
>>376933741
No, I meant your actual body in the ending, I scanned myself already.
>>
>>376933183
If you actually go around and do a lot of the side quest stuff and search for alive crew members, I can see the game easily taking you +35 hours to beat. I played on hard and did some side quest stuff, skipped most of It, but took my time exploring around. Finished around 19 hours and now I plan on playing through with just alien mods
>>
>>376933142
Gaming seems to be the only entertainment medium where the same name can never be used for a new IP ever.

>>
>>376933798
When does January lies to you? He's pretty upfront about being programmed to convince you to blow everything up.
>>
I own and have played this game.

It is utterly mediocre in every way.
Technically (Optimization, engine, performance) its all fine.
But everything is underwhelming.

The game has no atmosphere at all, its bland and generic as fuck artstyle wise, nothing lifts the story or environments, it just doesn't have any direction at all.
Remember that one open scene in the original Bioshock, setting up the city and giving you an atmospheric view as a reveal of some kind?

This doesn't have anything like that, it just is "oh yeah you're on a very generic and human space station."

The aliens are black blobs from that one X-Com FPS game that nobody wanted, they're uninteresting, boring as shit to fight with one or two okay ideas: The smallest aliens can turn into props and hide that way, but they don't really pose a threat at all and you don't have to check props because of that. Its just one of the devs played prop hunt and got scared once.

The story is that you're like the CEO of this space research station, but you keep resetting your memory for reasons to try out these not-plasmids that are gathered from these not-seaslugs that are the black goo aliens.
Your former self gives you a mission that is:"Yeah this shit is way out of control, you need to blow up this space station and then kill yourself."

Its all delivered in the most monotone, boring way possible and there isn't a single thing that is interesting about it.
The level design is okay though, its very vertical.

Do not fall for bacterial marketing, just pirate it when they crack it if you have to play this shitty game for some reason.
>>
>>376933858
I was like that for a while. Then I suddenly installed the Phantom shift neuromod which make enemies target your afterimage instead of you and unlocked the Water station psi upgrade which let you get 60 psi for every drinkable source

Then I was bashing Phantom's heads all days long, Q-Beam is also OP as fuck once you upgrade it. Just craft Neuromods as often as you can.
>>
>>376934131
if I'm remembering correctly January is not the operator the past you actually programmed, one of the final video logs you get from your past self mentions an operator named October that's supposed to be helping you out. Also keep in mind January kills December before he can ever tell you what he has to say. January is shady as fuck

Then you can just pick up some random shit and throw it at them, since throwing is overpowered as fuck.

You're just shit at videogames
>>
>>376934868

Looming disaster, urgency, and isolation. You're not alone on Talos 1, but your company isn't human. The game has no atmosphere.
The original Bioshock did it quite well with its start-up sequence:
There is a little mystery what the fuck that lighthouse is for, a little film explaining who founded the city, why, his ideology, setting up a theme and even a musical score from the 30s to late 50s to set up the mood and mindset the people there were in.

This game has absolutely NOTHING like that.
Its a generic space station with people doing experiments on generic as fuck black blob aliens that happen to have mind powers. No one has real motives, no one has an ideology, there is no backstory to it for all this to make sense.

They could have made this into a last ditch effort to save humanity from an alien threat, or a humanity fuck yeah thing where they just conquered and study the fuck out of anything they find to upgrade themselves, added a musical theme to give it character. Something.

This game has nothing, it is utterly and completely underwhelming.

You literally can't claim that the game has no backstory or contextual world-building if you refuse to invest in the game's method of storytelling. If it annoys you that much, shouldn't you consider the possibility that maybe the game isn't bad, you just personally don't like it.

If you're looking for a reactive world I don't think anything recent can compare to Homefront: Revolution.
It's not a good game by almost any aspect, the guns are weak, the enemy variety is non existent, the story is cringy and embarrassing. But the world and the way things change as you affect each zone is fucking INCREDIBLE. As you take control from the Koreans more and more the random civs will start actively dissenting, and the zones start getting shittier, with graffiti and fires and all sorts of shit. And it all feels organic, like it's not
>ive taken 3 strongholds now the rebels control the zone, but only to this line
it's a slow descent into rebellion and getting people to overcome. It's fucking neat.
But the game is extremely lackluster, I've not gotten around to the dlc yet, but the main game is pretty weak.

Bioshock was just an example you fuckwit.
The same thing can be achieved through many means, but it has to be a main part of the game.

Only doing that stuff in emails and logs just means they didn't care and you have shit standards for accepting that.

>>376938329
I am completely fine with reading tons of stuff, reading emails. I was a large fan of System Shock 2, but that game got you interested in it quickly and you wanted to know more about it.
This game is not interesting, nor is its world or location.

Dude, actually realizing that the 'weird' reactions they have to you're taking what seems to be at the time just a dumb-ass excuse to give you a tutorial was one of the most clever moments in the game.

You're only hurting yourself by being too obstinate or too casual to engage with it.

there's not really much more to it. The game got bad reviews and had awful awful performance issues at release, but they fixed up performance. It's a 4/10 in gameplay, but a 7/10 overall from the world, it's really fucking incredible. The rich zone full of Collaborators, which are people who are traitors that work for the Norks is called ashgate I think. And that's where I was absolutely floored. I didn't take many good screenshots on my playthrough and i played on the highest difficulty so i don't really have any reason to play through it again, but I wish I had taken transitory SS through the zones.
Ashgate is the rich zone, it's the 4th area you go to, and it's the first one where you see how the "others" live. Instead of people starving and constant propaganda playing, there's news and music, and well dressed people. Almost no KPA presence, just a few grunts. Recruitment posters, paved roads. It looks great, and you're just coming out of a Red Zone that was where the original rebellion was crushed, so it's all bombed out and full of corpses, and it's a fart in the wind from the nicest area left in Philadelphia. But by the time you're done there, they've brought in APC's/drones/tanks, there's homeless everywhere, armed rebels walking the streets, all the flower beds are fucked up, rebel posters and graffiti on teh walls. Open conflict all over. It's fucking amazing, if the actually gameplay wasn't bad farcry 3, it would probably be my GOTY so far.
>ashgate main street before

Yeah it's weird, everything he said his true except he's convinced the game is shit.

I just finished it and it was alright, had some cool moments and I don't regret playing it, but the alst two games I played were Hollow Knight and Nier so it kinda pales in comparison. It's not as good as Dishonored but if they make a sequel I'll check it out.

Morph is useful to get access to a lot of areas. Just put a mod in it, no need for upgrade.

Phantom shift is really good, it doesn't use lot of psi and enemies will keep targeting your double even when you whack them in the head. Cystoids will kill themselves on it.

Machine mind is pretty useful later down the line.

I don't think her life signs ever get set to dead. It is a shame she didn't come back in and there wasn't a way to save her.

It was sad seeing so many loving couples brutally murdered on the station, or those unlucky enough to be left alive to witness their loved ones turned into monsters. The two romantic dates the men had planned ruined, and the one engineer who watched the one girl that was nice to him get murdered really hit home.

At around the halfway point of the game you have to go to the stations reactor, it's one big room which does suffer from framedrops depeneding on what direction your looking, even on higher end systems

Aside from that the game runs pretty good
>>
>>376944865
Just a FYI, if you cheat to get the numbers before finding them at the map locations then supposedly the treasure gives you a debuff instead of a buff.

Also the treasure code is randomly generated for each save while using the same 4 numbers.
