Open world wouldn't work without being super annoying. You'd be chasing the monster all over the place when they decided to move, and granted you do that now, but with larger, wider and open maps it'd get old really quick

If I can't play the next entry on a TV/monitor screen with a proper controller I don't give a shit. I finished 3U and 4U on 3DS and I was pretty burnout afterwards. Playing 30 minutes to multi-hour play sessions on that little cramped boxy handheld with 240p screen wasn't enjoyable enough to continue with Generations.

You already do this shit, monsters teleport across the map. Reducing loading screens would only make this process better and less infuriating since you'd never have to fight near loading screen triggers again.

Console or multi-plat release notwithstanding, dialing back on the special effects MHX brought with it as well as arts and styles. They have potential but currently stand as unpolished, even one re-release later.

Toukiden 2 managed "open world" pretty well but then again the demons in that game never really "ran away".

I think an open word monster hunter could work, it just would have to scale back the health the creature has OR you have to be smart and use some sort of containment field.

Even as I say that, I wouldn't mind if 5 were a big reset like 3 was at the time, almost all new maps and monsters, with only a few core old monsters.
