There is literally no way a new console generation will be released within the next five years. Announced, -maybe-, but the Xbox line is done and Nintendo is out of sync with the rest of the home console cycle. I don't know if Sony can even afford to develop a successor to the PS4. PS3 was the dark horse finisher of 7th gen. It got panned as dead on arrival early on, but had surprising staying power despite being outflanked by the Wii and 360 for the first 3 years. After 2009 it started outselling them both though, and has definitely been the slowest of the last gen consoles to die. It even got Persona 5 on it just last month.

games I've bought recently: ultimate marvel3 ps4, gravity rush 2, persona 5, nier automata (got it about one month before the PC version, Hong Kong Digital PSN), nioh, yakuza 0, last guardian, horizon.

and I've already preordered Guilty Gear Xrd revelator 2, Tekken 7, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, looking forward to God of War 4, Death Stranding, final fantasy vii, detroit, Spiderman, and Gran Turismo 7.

Everything there is like late 2016-2018. I didn't even count anything before Last Guardian, in which time PS4 was still the platform I was using more than anything else due to games like Bloodborne, uncharted, final fantasy (which sold EVERYTHING on PS4), last of us remastered etc.

I've owned every single video game console since the NES. Honestly I've never felt happier with any console than I feel with the PlayStation 4 Pro and I don't feel any need to buy Microsoft or Nintendo hardware anymore. I still have a PC that's more powerful but again, I rarely use it.

I only bought an Xbox this gen. There isn't any game on any other platform which is remotely interesting to me. The only exclusive I was actually interested in was fh3 and it is still the only exclusive I've bought this gen. Wii U already hit the 5 year mark and was replaced and Scorpio is on the horizon. I'm sure Sony and M$ will try to stretch the gen out to 8 years again, but generally speaking we're in the last stretch of the gen right now

Barely 4 years with a massive drought for the last 2 years of the console is now 6 years. The Wii U barely had support in 2015 and 2016.
