Any idea how this is? It looks fun and characters are cute, but how is the gameplay?
>>
>>376908990
Google "Utawarerumono: Itsuwari no Kamen". The game has been out for some time now.
>>
>>376908990
Here's a video of the first hour of play.
>>
>>376908990

Keep in mind it's a sequel to a game that released in 2002 and part of an established franchise.
>>
>>376909226
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LK7K0XyRRVw

It's a visual novel with battles.
>>
>>376909272
I think this is a remake, not a sequel.
>>
>>376909396
It's a sequel, retard.
>>
>>376909396

It's a direct sequel.
>>
>>376909272
I've read that first game has completely different characters and story
>>
Is the story any good?
>>
>>376908990
Have you ever played Tears to Tiara II? Well this is far more slow than that. One thing I hated about Tears to Tiara II was there wasn't an English dub. Since you mainly spent time in menus and watching the same image while Japanese voices talked over it.
>>
>>376909570
Aw, Hell naw. It seriously is a harem anime game.
>>
>>376909552
>Mask of Deception follows the story of Haku, a mysterious amnesiac who awakens in an unfamiliar wilderness wearing nothing but a hospital gown and sporting a splitting headache. He’s rescued by a beautiful girl named Kuon, who sports both adorable animal ears and a beastlike tail.

>They eventually team up, and Haku will (reluctantly) encounter colorful characters (yes, that means more animal people), build deep relationships, battle ruthless enemies, and find himself inexorably dragged into the political machinations of the mighty nation of Yamato.

>Combat is an exciting mix of turn-based tactics and Attack Chain mechanics. Plus, unique features such as the rewind function, elemental affinities/weaknesses, unique character skills, and more add a layer of depth to fights. Mask of Deception is a 40-50+ hour adventure that sets up the story for a thrilling conclusion in Mask of Truth, and we’ll reveal more information about the final game at a later date.

It'll be concluded when Mask of Truth comes out.
>>
>>376908990
9 days left, can't fucking wait to see how much the anime butchhered.
>>
>>376909819
So does this mean that you aren't required to play first game and can hop into Mask of Deception immediatelly? At least Mask of Truth seems like a sequel you cant just jump into before playing Deception first.
>>
>>376909570

First game was a semi-realistic war story about a dude becoming the lord of a small province and eventually leading them to victory against larger forces. Wasn't pure fantasy aside from the animal people and had some slight sci-fi influences in the later parts. It had SRPG segments between the story scenes and the gameplay could actually be fairly challenging if a little simple. I would suggest playing it if you're looking forward to getting this since it's a direct sequel.

The original was for PC and had H-scenes but it got popular enough on its own to get a re-release without the porn and an anime adaption. The sequels are Non-H as well.
>>
>>376910159
The first game has a anime that was a decent watch outside of one cut scene that is actually huge, but no one would expect anything in the first game to matter because the sequel didn't even come out for ten years. For mask of deception the first game isn't really needed but the first game's cast shows up for a couple of scenes. In truth they're way more important so it's better to get to know them before playing game 3, and the first season watched between game 2 and 3 would be a nice thing to do during the gap.
>>
>>376909313
>it's tatics shit
fuck this gay earth
>>
>>376910532
It's as simple as it can get. What is the problem?
>>
>>376910159
>At least Mask of Truth seems like a sequel you cant just jump into before playing Deception first.
Think of it as the 2 being one massive game, so they split it into 2 parts. Deception is part 1 and Truth is part 2.

As for the original game, I've head that a few characters from it show up, but I'm not sure if they're just insignificant cameos or not.

Deception has the first cast show up with smaller roles, but truth makes the cast more important which isn't good if one didn't play the first game.

I skimmed through a part of a random Japanese let's play. In 6 hours of footage there were roughly 20 minutes of srpg.
>>
>>376910481
I guess I'll watch anime before 3 then. Might be sooner even. Utawarerumono has been in my backlog for years, so its about time I watch it.
>>
>>376911126
Which is why it's primarily a visual novel. People looking for a more traditional JRPG should look elsewhere.
>>
>>376911126
Precisely. Wait for this to hit $20 like Tears of Tiara II did.

In fact, a lot of the JRPGs being released in June are hot garbage...yet I plan on pre-ordering them all.
>>
>>376911126

If you haven't played the original you shouldn't be playing these yet anyway.
Those who played the original also know how the gameplay is like so if you go into this thinking the SRPG is in any way the focus of the game, you're only backing yourself into a corner.
>>
>>376911127
One spoil that the first anime doesnt cover. The girl on deception's cover is the daughter of the mc in the first game.

The anime unsurprisingly removed the h-scenes and was a little rushed for time so this got removed too. It's not a spoil that'll make you want to kill me but you'll wonder if you missed something if I didn't mention it.
>>
>>376911451
If you played the original you shouldn't play it either. The story is borderline insulting to anyone who played the first one. t's just a bunch of harem tropes with an emasculated protagonist.
>>
>>376911414
What else is there in June?
>>
>>376911678
>It's just a bunch of harem tropes with an emasculated protagonist.
That pretty much WAS the first one.
>>
>>376911414
Utaware comes with an artbook day one so I can't wait for it to actually get cheaper. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if I could still get one months later, as I managed to buy yakuza 0's day one edition and get the minor bonuses, and disgaea 5's day one bonuses could still be bought at my FUCKING GAMESTOP.
>>
>>376909396
It's a direct sequel. You "can" play it without knowing of the series but you won't recognize characters it expects you to know and miss out on a couple huge twists, the game simply won't have anywhere nearly as much impact on you if you never played the first one. I really wouldn't recommend it.
>>
Wait when is this coming out for PS4?

Did you actually play the games? Because that's exactly how the first title was. The only difference is that in place of the eroge scenes they included more fanservice, and since the story is almost 3x as long, split the game into two parts.
>>
>>376911945
May 23. It always came out for ps4 and vita.
>>
I didn't even finish the anime. It was shit compared to the original. Boring characters, story and no action. (though the game may be different for the last part)
>>
>>376908990
Best SRPG of the decade
>>
>>376912230
The game is very different, but whether or not it'll change your opinion is different. In the game there are 14 fights, and there are not even close to 1/3 that in the anime.
>>
>>376911942
This
>>
Does best girl Touka or an equivalent appear? This is important.
>>
>>376912380
She has a minor role in 2 and a major one in 3.
>>
>>376912230
The anime isn't that good like most adaptations
>>
Sorry will be too busy buying Echoes plus the DLC!
>>
I played both of the new games (along with the original from 15 years ago). Solid 10/10 for me.
The first of the new games does a LOT of world building and character building and the game ends up being a bit boring in the middle. On its own, it's only a 8/10.
But the second game buildings upon all of that. It almost seamlessly continues and it's amazing from beginning to end. All that setup pays off very much so. Which is why many people were a bit disappointed when they only played the first one, but the two games together are, as I said, 10/10.

>>376912230
Too bad there is no season 3 anime. Though the last game probably wouldn't even fit into 26 episodes, so many good scenes are there that you just can't cut out. All you anime-only guys only got the buildup for the story, but not the actual good parts. Give it another shot. Either play the two games, or finish watching the anime and then play the last game. You won't regret it.
>>
>>376912296
>In the game there are 14 fights,
There was over 30 stages in the first game. That's just bullshit if there isn't even half that.
>>
>>376909947
The anime is less butchered than the game actually.
>>
Getting mixed signals here what to do. Some say I need to play first one, others don't. Might just end up skipping this. I don't mind if I miss some small references from first game in Deception, but if its something major then I'll just skip this for now.
>>
>>376912469
He probably meant 14 fights at the part where you got to the half of the story in the anime?

There are around 30 fights in the second game, plus 10 or so dream battles after you finish the game.

Third game also has about 30 story fights, some have several phases with new units appearing so they feel even longer. Plus 40 or so short challenges.
>>
>>376912649
It's better to play the first game, since they have bigger roles in the third game.
>>
>>376912517
What the fuck are you talking about?
>>
>>376912649
The third game has massive story continuation parts from the old first game. There are also returning characters (every character from the first game has important roles)

You don't have to play it, but you really should at least watch the anime. It's good too, as opposed to the new anime made from the second game.
>>
>>376912649
It's definitely more than just small references, you'll regret it if you don't play it first.
Dunno why that would make you skip the series entirely though, the original game isn't really any different from these two, you'll just get more content overall.
>>
>>376912649
I say play the second game first. You wont miss much of anything. If you liked it, watch the first anime(or play the first game) and them move on to the third game in september
>>
>>376912649

Nigga you have 9 days and the first one is easy as hell to get. There's even an all ages version if you're turned off by porn. There's literally no excuse not to play the first aside from laziness.
>>
>>376912815
In the second game, the first game just gets small references honestly.
>>
>>376912517
The anime was basically a training arc with no training. Just letting haku fight in the first half is better.

>>376912649
The game comes out very soon so I don't fault you for not wanting to play the first game immediately.

>>376912707
Yes, I meant in the 2nd story overall. Forgot to mention the bonus stages, sorry.
>>
>>376912873

The whole invasion of Tuskur and fights with Benawi and Kurou will mean nothing without the first game.
Plus in the game (cut from the anime) Oboro also gets a scene where he says that Kuon is his "daughter".

Also, in the game Touka and Karura has more scenes with Kuon. Aruru too. You miss the whole "Kuon family tree setup" without the first game.

>>
It has shittons of story VN sections devoid of player interaction, so I'd suggest it as a VN first. Gameplay is better and more varied than the original game, though Itsuwari no Kamen is way too easy even on Hard (unless they patched it). Futari no Hakuoro on the other hand is properly difficult on Hard. You should also obviously play through the original PC eroge or its PS2 / PSP port first. Applies for both, but Futari no Hakuoro in particular has plenty of fanservice and recurring characters.

Story wise in general the original game is the best. The sequels feel like they're just recycling plenty of stuff and similar plot elements from the original without adding anything really new or developing the setting that much. Hell, they even take forever to re-reveal the first game's twists. Villains and their motivations are usual JRPG-tier trash so don't expect anything interesting there. The sequels also really shouldn't be that long, together they total about 100 hours and Itsuwari no Kamen is pretty much nothing but a really long, extended introductory prologue where nothing mentionable really occurs until the very very last parts where it ends in an annoying sequel hook. Pretty maddening when I played it on release since I didn't know there was going to be a third game, and the story feels like it could've easily been one game but they stretched it into two.

Best thing about the sequels is the protagonist, who is much more of an entertaining character than the original game's.

>tl;dr
Play the original instead if you haven't already. If you want more of the exact same plot wise and more refined gameplay mechanics play the sequels next.
>>

>>
>>376914716
lmao no there was 0 rumors
>>
>>376914507
I played both games on hard. While the third game is a bit harder, I didn't really find it that difficult. The only time I had to restart a battle once when 5+ more enemies appeared in a multiple phase battle and I already lost some units.
I did use the rewind function a lot, though. You can call that cheesing.

And I gave Ougi that accessory that leaves him on 50 energy after he used his ultimate. Considering that you can build 52 energy in a round with hidden criticals, this lets you have an extra round an an ultimate on every single one of his normal round, which is completely bullshit overpowered.
>>

>mad pc fatty

Come on keep crying bitch :)
>>
Do I get to choose between girls in these games or is it just harem route? I'm honestly fine with both options if the games are good.
>>

It's about 20 or so years.

>>376916936
It's a linear story.
>>
>>376916702
Takes place about 20 years later.

Eruru also comes back in the third game. Both Hakuoro and Eruru even have their old voice actors in their scenes (and the rest of the characters from the first game too, it's a miracle that they got everyone back).
What happens with the two of them is of course, spoiler.

You get Kuon.
>>
>>376916936
Everyone openly craves your dick, but Kuon shipping is canon.

Fuck, I was so mad about the anime's ending. I swear that if Eruru and Hakuoro don't get a happy ending together after a 100 hours playthrough. I am gonna be mad
>>
>>376917394
You'll like those two's ending.
But you'll still be mad for different reasons.
>>
>>376917542

Reasons that have nothing to do with them right ?
>>
>>376917542
why

>FUCKING GAMESTOP has an artbook for day one edition

jewstop hasn't been relevant in ages for me. Not when they can't compete with the 20% discount that bestbuy and amazon prime has.

jewstop losing so much customers to bestbuy and amazon the past year that they closed all the stores around my neighborhood.

Eruruu is canonically cucked.
>>
>>376917542
Sorry but the ending was great all around. Haku doesn't have the time right now to do nothing with Kuon when she's only like 16.
>>
>>376917658
>>376917665
No, it has to do with Haku and Kuon's ending.
>>
>>376917834
Which is the best outcome. Humanity is still jellified.
>>
>>376917834
I know that already. See>>376913468

I remember someone saying I would be mad if I liked eruru best, but they were vague.
>>
>>376913915
It's a character you were supposed to think died in the first game.
>>
>>376917941
No, you don't know anything. A lot of stuff still happens after that spoiler.

> I would be mad if I liked eruru best
Dunno why would they say that, she wasn't cucked.
>>
>>376918109
I mean that I basically had people spoil the whole game on release. I even looked up videos of the finale.
>>
>>376913695
I think it is a case of Aquaplus approaches Atlus and asks them to localize their games and might not charge a licensing fee or something.

I thought the deal might have been broken with Atlus not localizing any Aquaplus titles last year, but then Atlus announced that they were doing both Utawarerumono 2 parts in the same year which makes up for it.

I guess I'll keep hoping that Atlus will do DT2-2 as a digital title or something.
>>
>>376917958

That's positive spoiler! I am all for that!
>>
>>376917958
But that's wrong.
>>
>>376918930
it's joke.
>>
>>376918930
Please.

Best girls.
