Nice a Yakuza thread. So I literally finished Yakuza 3 5 minutes ago and jesus, why can't fucking Kiryu kill people to avoid all that shit? The writing in this was garbage. Is it worth picking up 4?

There's that one scene in 5 where it almost seems like Kiryu's going to beat a guy to death. Of course he gets interrupted though.

All things considered his part of 5 was pretty good though, I thought. The rest of the game is what doesn't live up to it even, in my opinion.

This honestly doesn't get said often enough. Zero had the most grind out of all the mainline games (Ishin tops it by miles), while having the fewest actual gauntlets that are pretty short overall. As much as I loved the improvements to the fighting systems, it was still kind of a let down in that regard and is one of the main reasons I'm hyped for Kiwami. Zeros fighting system with some actual fucking fighting gauntlets that aren't finished in 3 minutes.

As much shit as people give 5 (and it was nice to finally have a story again that wasn't complete shit with 10 twists), at least that game had insane fucking set pieces that were fun to fight through.

Do you think we'll get Kiwami 2 before 7?

Yakuza 0 is a newcomer's favorite game, gives them the brutal hand to hand combat the series is known for, the Yakuza "even manly men can cry" soap drama that this time requires very little background with the rest of the series, the going to Japan on a holiday feel and district exploration like the rest of the series, and at the end an enjoyable experience all around. Tons, which is great for the series in the West since this will only result in more localization. It's not that all of them are bad. From a large majority, I've read they are interested in getting to the previous games in the series and have a more reasonable opinion on the Yakuza games. It's just that there are an obnoxious few that try to be elitist with the only Yakuza game they've played as the be all and end all and dismiss the rest with the few criticisms they have, like the couple you pointed out for Y5.

Yakuza 1 was far from a masterpiece but it was a good start, I feel like. 2 is the masterpiece here, great combat, great music, great antagonist, the retarded twists at the end are fucking horrible but it's forgivable since the entire package is great. The problem with 4 is that you will play with 4 different characters and Kiryu is the last one.
The interactions between the characters in their stories are good. You can probably not enjoy Tanimura's gameplay(the cop) despite his story being the best imo. Saejami can be annoying when you want to travel through the city, but his backstory is interesting. Akiyama is fun as shit to play with it and his sidemissions are good
