It just better to stay dead at this point.
It will never live up to expectations it grew thru this entire time
>>
>>376904735
I don't care about Half-Life at all.
>>
>>376904978
this
sp fps is dead
>>
Not really. I wouldn't expect much if they did try to finish the story. I'd just be happy with the resulting closure.
>>
>>376904735
They could release a fucking comic that gives closure to the series and I'd be satisfied.
>>
>>376905193
Said anon, as Doom (2016) sold as well as it did. Though I'd say it's dead among upcoming developers, yes.
>>
Considering how shit EP 2 was, no.
>>

i realised Half Life 2 was shit ages ago.
but i think by now even the "fans" realised that it's not very good.
>>
>>376904735
I still do and will never stop believing, it will be announced this year.
>>
>>376904735
No

I want a single player FPS with mechanics like the offense characters in Overwatch. Fast paced FPS/RPG with tons of cool movement and utility abilities. I liked Prey a lot because it had an ability that worked similar to Tracer's blink, complete with a 'confuse enemies' component.

Maybe they just wait on modders/communityfags to make the game for them.

Thoughts?

we care pretty much only about the lore, why dont just make a RPG kinda game ? i guess it will fit better for half life
>>
>>376904735
It's been too long, and Valve has long since eroded all good will they had with the community.

If it did come out, it would just be another DNF.
>>
>>376904735
Didn't most of the original team already leave Valve? Who the fuck would make the game?
>>
>>376904735
Never cared actually. Although HL Opposing Force was one of my first PC games and I rushed every morning to play it, I don't see anything to be excited about.

10 years have passed but my taste has not changed.
Time has lost its effect on me, yet the suffering continues.
Micro-transactions choke the past, present and future.
Hope is lost.
Got to get back, back to the past.

and its shit, just like nu-doom

the problem with modern single player games is that they are often too limited in terms of modding and mapmaking. There is simply no possibility for a community to emerge, and there is no possibility for developers to provide players with enough content, let alone "free" content. And age of the game isnt the deciding factor here.

>>
>>376904735
I would've been perfectly fine if the HL2 base game was the ending. The fact that they decided to start an episodic continuation and leave it on a cliff hanger will always put Valve on my shit list.

Nope. I care about Half Life 3 tho because all the rumors and leaks about it suggest its going to be a massive open world RPG and be more moddable than any game in existence.

>>376904735
Episode 3? No. It's way too late for that.

Half-Life 3? Absolutely. And it's coming Soon™

Not in the least. Any discussion surrounding Half Life 3 should have ended completely after Eric Laidlaw left the studio. Now with both Erik Wolpaw and Chet Flasomethingski also gone, the hope of seeing another narrative driven Valve game shouldn't be wished by anyway. It will never cease to amaze me how a game development company that has made some of the most compelling gaming experiences ever stopped making games in favour of in-game skins and hardware despite having access to unlimited money via Steam. Wasting talent like the guys I mentioned makes me fucking sick. How come it's never people genuinely passionate about creating experiences for their audiences that are CEO's of such companies?

i really don't care if it ever actually gets released but it would be neat to see any unfinished material they had involving the borealis. portal 2's dry dock easter egg was neat.
>>
>>376907882
CS:GO and Dota 2 are much more popular and bigger money makers for them to ever care about another single player experience.
>>
>>376907882
The thing is, those games don't make that much money.
Making HL3/EP3 is a huge bet and it won't help you with:
1. Attracting devs inside Valve
2. Your performance review

Gabe cares about money, nothing else.

I would be happy to get a solid game, a great singleplayer experience, that concludes the story of HL2 and its episodes. Without any gimmick or golden mountains of promises, but just a solid game. Guess that was too much to ask from Valve.
And now, when all the talent that worked on previous HL games have left Valve, there's no hope left to get even just that - a game. I guess Portal 2 will forever remain the last true game that once great Valve put out. Sad, but what can you do.
>>
>>376908343
>Sad, but what can you do.

Not give Valve your money. Don't buy games on Steam since Valve takes 30% of every sale. And encourage everyone else to do the same.
>>
>>376908706
Well, I haven't given Valve any money for a long time, but millions of people do. Which is why I think you can't really do much. Gabe has set his course, and the company goes along, with millions upon millions of dollars in profit, so it really has no incentive to stop the money-grabbing and start producing some genuine games.
>>
>>376904735

its basically confirmed at this point that half-life 3 and portal 3 will be a cross-over game, right?
>>
>>376909016
No, it's basically confirmed that Gabe will never ever put out another game.
>>
>>376908916
Still, better to not give them money.
>>
>>376904735
It's too late for it to have any realy impact, people will joke about it finally being released and finally when they decide its nothing more than mediocre they'll wonder what the hell Valve have been doing all this time.
>>
>>376908706
>Valve takes 30% of every sale

Are you serious, their cut is that high? Holy shit how do they get away with it? It should be like 3%.
>>
I would if it actually came out but since it never will I just won't worry about it.
>>
>>376908258
Except they don't have to make money. Again, Valve's games are always carefully crafted anyway, so it's highly unlikely they'd be flops. But even if they were, it wouldn't matter because the money would come back from steam.
Also
>1. Attracting devs inside Valve
>Needing to attract the people your paying a salary to create a new game
Christ how fucking pathetic.
>>
>>376909363
They get away with it because "it's the same cut every other digital store takes". You know, Playstation, Xbox, etc.
>>
>>376909016
Nothing is even close to confirmed
>>
>>376909363
30% is not that outrageous. I mean, Valve hosts everything. Keeping a shitload of server running 24/7 isn't cheap.
>>
>>376909480
The thing is, while making HL3/EP3, you're spending money that isn't being replenished by 12 year olds with mommy's credit card opening crates.
And yes, that's how Valve works. People work on projects that make them look good. Taking a huge risk on a quality SP game, doesn't look good if it fails and you've wasted 6 months of a teams time.
>>
>>376909363
Steam is the biggest store for PC games, also 30% is the standard with consoles.
>>
>>376909785
>isn't cheap

And how would you figure that even with that much cost to keep things running, they might still not be making insane amounts of money, more than they deserve?
>>
>>376905892
i am a fan and you are a faggot
>>
>>376906146
>those MOD pages when you entered a server
>sometimes they were invisible so you couldn't close them and it played loud ads
>>
>>376906748
Those opening lines make me cringe every time I try to watch nu-jack and I end up closing out of it.
>>
>>376907882
>narrative driven Valve game
Are you fucking dumb, Laidlaw always said that the plot was always secondary to gameplay features and he rewrited it multiple times just to accommodate game design changes creator came up with
>>
>>376905502
hl3 would come out in a day and no one would care
>>
>>376910426
Didn't mean to quote
>>
>http://gearnuke.com/steam-sales-2015-valve-generated-total-3-5-billion-paid-games/

>Valve makes nearly 400 million a month
>nearly 3 billion a year

>lol so many servers they cost so much

Valve has no excuse except to keep being greedy fuckers.
>>
>>376910020
>more than they deserve

Valve is a company, not a charity. Like every company they're built on making profit.
>>
>>376910520
They have lazy devs that don't work
>>
>>376909924
>a game developer developing a game has wasted their time if it doesn't sell well
Congrats - you've proven you'd be a stagnant, soulless kike just like Gabe had you been in his position.
>>
>>376910597
It's all that they can do given how different Valve is on the inside from other companies.

I would actually be an autist and work on the game myself.
>>
>>376910551
Convenient excuse isn't it? And yet it's still entirely their decision whether they want to do things in favor of the community and their developers. They don't even have shareholders making demands of them. If Gabe was a truly charitable person, then Valve would effectively be a charity while still earning healthy profit, as a company. In fact it may even grow their standing and reputation.
