Yes, the writer has honestly managed to make a series that should be bad into something golden. It has its problems, but they're easily overlooked.

The cast is great, but there is one god that steals the show from everyone.

It depends with what you mean for videogame references, outside certain specials and movies, no real world games are mentioned.

Haven't watch an anime since Kill la Kill and the only Japanese show I've seen since then is the Batsu No-LAUGHING games. I watched this show and, honestly, I realized if it was in English I wouldn't have even given it a chance. Once this thought crossed my mind, I stopped.

It's unfortunate folks give Japanese shows a pass simply because they're Japanese (much like vidya), but some people think it's new and different and not Japanman in Costume fighting we've seen many times over again.

Give it a shot but don't go in with high expectations.
