Short combos, high damage
3 buttons
Few extra mechanics and what exists is simple to understand and execute
Solid new player resources (Aris/BeyondThePuddle videos) make it easy to get up to speed

Gold standard of fighting games right here. Don't know how Namco missed the mark so hard with Tekken.

You forgot the easy movement. When noobs play Tekken it's effectively a 2D game and even moving forward and backwards is slow, stiff and awkward. In Soul Calibur the movement in all directions is easy and fluid from the beginning. Why it has to be any more difficult in any 3D fighting game is beyond me.
