Get a weapon that scales with strength well, or infuse one with a heavy gem, I just go for a heavy claymore in 2 hands, all your armor is worthless without a heavy weapons as poise only happens during hyper armor frames.

Certain weapons have hyper armor that allows you to continue swinging even if you get hit. Only heavy weapons have it, and how much you can get hit during those frames depends on your poise stat. I think 2 handing Greatswords have hyper armor, as well as all greataxes, greathammers, and ultra greatswords.
