If I had to take a guess that is simply the initial goal.

I just played and beat it for the first time a couple days ago. It's a typical recycled bioware story in a different setting.

The combat was tedious. There's a lot of skills you have to buy on level up that you don't use just to get to the next skill.

The banter between characters was pretty good. Lots of effort was put into dialogue and interaction.

But sometimes the story doesn't make sense in terms of time scale and sense of urgency.

Also with so many ending variables and the changes in writing teams over the games; the over arching plot is probably not worth paying attention to. There's simply no way to account for everything and produce a satisfactory conclusion. Hence why your character from DA:O/A is barely mentioned ever again going forward.

If you've got 40hrs to kill go for it. There are worse rpgs to waste your time on.

Point being, its possible to be a repressive theocracy and be supposedly progressive on certain issues. It isn't like either the Qun or Iran are "progressive." DA2 is worse than the first, but the story was pretty good. The Chantry is a lot better there too imo, it's still not a great rendition of the Catholic Church in a fantasy setting but it seems a lot better thought out and realised than in Origins. And Inquisition is alright, it's an excellent time sink given the fuckhuge amount of content it has, it's mostly MMO style stuff but I actually found it really relaxing to play and unwind. Origins is still the best overall but if you enjoy your second playthrough then 2 and Inquisition are at least worth looking into, given you can get them cheap that is.

I would prefer that you start off slow in that you discover a plot of after your master dies during an event hes hosting, and if you don't investigate before his corpse is discovered you will be the one taking the fall lets pretend he was a benevolent slave owner who was like a father to you since you were a child because cliches are fun. Then one thing leads to another with multiple red herrings like his heir is a prick who hates your guts and wants his fathers estate, Dorian the visiting magister among other suspicious people, slaves what have you.

You then discover a lead about a new cult that has a sprung up recently worshiping an bald elf. This can be fore shadowed via background dressing, and ambient rumors. A little obvious but whatever. After a couple more twists say you find the son dead after what you thought was the smoking gun you eventually come across the true culpret who as chance would have it Dorian was also investigating, while using whatever event your now deceased master was throwing as a means to gather information somewhat discreetly. You both catch the culprit he says some cryptic bullshit and turns into a new kind of demon.

You both kill it together. Thus leading Dorian to take ownership of you by leveraging his position as magister. Which then leads you to join the Inquisition which is now under a different title or what is an off shoot secret organisation depending on your final choice in tresspasser dlc. So a super secret special anti bald elf society lead by none other than the inquisitor who then proceeds to give you your first mission in Par Volen because of your resourcefulness in the prologue yada yada yada. This is how you first companions Carth an actual decent looking female character and the rest of the game is mmo tier shit quests done.

Iron Bull isn't exactly indicative of the Qunari as a whole since his whole character arc is built around being a spy of sorts who actually ends up agreeing with a lot of the enemy's ideas and morals and finds himself stuck between the two ideologies. Dwarf Noble is trash because it's far too railroaded, and should be far lower; Fem City Elf is easily as good as Human Noble even if you're considering the whole game and not just the Origin itself; Mage has a lot of subtleties that go unnoticed by most players and should be higher, and the Dalish origin isn't great but is well-delivered and gives you delicious lore later on in the game.

It is, though. For most of the other Origins, outside forces are responsible for forcing the plot - it doesn't matter how suspicious of Howe you are as a Human Noble, you don't have the power to do anything, so he always kills your family. Same with the City Elf, Dwarf Commoner and to a lesser extent the Mage and Dalish origins.

Dwarf Noble? No matter how suspicious you are of Bhelen, or how much or how little you care for politics, you simply don't get any opportunities to address it at all. It's the old problem where instead of writing an actually clever scenario, the writers simply limit the player/character's options so they can't manoeuvre themselves out of the problem, which is railroading. I recognise there needing to be some railroading in any scenario like this, especially with discrete prologues to the same campaign, and it works when it's justified or not too limiting - but it's crudest and most obvious in the Dwarf Noble origin, which is why I find it so jarring. It doesn't even give you even an attempt at avoiding it like in the Mage origin (where if you push him enough, Duncan just flat-out conscripts you).
The roleplaying is very good, and I played Dwarf Noble as my very first origin and loved it, but after going back and playing it again, it's just too frustrating for me to enjoy. It's just a personal thing, anon, I can certainly understand why you like it so much.

The Dwarf origins are quite absorbing, and at the very least give you a great take on this new culture, whereas the Human Noble origin doesn't show you anything you haven't seen before.

I actually love the Casteless origin because it plays like a believable life for this character. Dad's gone, Mum's an alcoholic, Sister's trying seduce nobles to get her family out of the life whilst you climb the ladder of the Carta to do the same. Leske is a bro of bros and everyone's absorbed with making life better for themselves. It's not a big political problem, or a wedding that gets ruined in a reasonably happy life. It's just this one day in the life of these people at the bottom rung of dwarven society getting swept up in greater machinations whilst trying to make things better for themselves.

The choices within it are good, the characters are believable, and when you get saved by Duncan you get what you want, an honest to goodness out. But your characters first thoughts can be "but what about Leske, and my family."

Granted those elements are great when you get back to Orzammar, like you said, but the story of the origin itself was an absorbing situation, with believable characters you grew to care about in such a short time. Then ends with a tragic ultimatum of "leave, get a better life, but abandon your family and best friend" or "stay and be executed because of the rules surrounding your shitty life of class exclusionism, that stands as a metaphor for how your life and the odds have always been stacked against you no matter how hard you try, or how competent you actually are."

I dunno man, I just think that origin had the most heart in it.

My personal favorite is NTRing that young elf couple, and then slaughtering them and their whole clan with an army of werewolves. Being an over the top dick was one of the best parts about the game. I don't know why Bioware went backwards in that aspect.

I love the whole Grey Warden concept because it's severely lacking in videogames.
It's always GLORIOUS HOLY PALADINS OF LIGHT AND ALL THAT IS GOOD.

Basically this. I thought inquisition was a fairly decent game, but heavily flawed. One of the my biggest gripes was how much there was to do, but 95% of it was boring fetch quests in areas you had no real reason to go to.

The Witcher 3 had entire dungeons you had no reason to go to unless you wanted to, hand crafted to be unique and interesting to at least a minor degree. Inquisition had tons of areas where nothing was interesting or engaging about them at all.

I enjoyed DA:I, but you're making some outlandish comparisons here.

There is a drastic gap in terms of production value between DA:I and W3, even though CDProjekt likely spent less money because they can hire slavs. Bioware, having probably fired anyone with an ounce of talent in animation and writing dialogue (it's more likely they left voluntarily), gave a terrible showing in DA:I. It's like they improved exactly 0% from DA:O in terms of cutscenes, and actually went backwards when it came to writing.

I thought the gameplay was the only saving grace for DA:I. Every one of the characters was shallow and unappealing in nearly every regard, and the cutscenes were so awkwardly done for a game from that time that it was very immersion-breaking for me.

Out of that entire list of characters I only liked Blackwall and Cassandra. Cullen too but I don't count him since he's been there since the first game and I think the way his characters has grown from Origins to Inquisition is great.

Dorian is an annoying faggot who tries to hard to be the quick witted quippy character but it comes off as completely forced. Vivienne was an absolute garbage tier character. They dumb down your character whenever you talk with her to make her seem smart. You can't even dismiss her from your team no matter what you do. The only good thing about her is seeing how jealous and butthurt she is of Morrigan.

Okay, let's take Cassandra: she is "stronk independent wimin" who as it turns out likes the silly adventure stories and wants romance in her life. She wants to lead her whatever the name of her sidequest order but has a duty to lead the chantry because she thinks that other alternative, lillian, is too pixiegirl to become a cult leader and yet in my playthrough she loses miserably but is relieved because she actually can do what she wants to.

I mean this is not the most complex shit but most of the characters had shit to do, backstories, were enjoyable and can't really be considered shallow. I mean Black(water?) literally had another persona behind his usual persona, like this a direct evidence of it being at least one step beyond shallow.
