SS1 is a highly refined nonlinear FPS action adventure with well-structured mission design where most objectives feel very satisfying to complete. You'll really feel like John McClane in the first Die Hard when playing this game.

SS2 is a pseudo-nonlinear FPSRPG with highly questionable design in almost every aspect of its gameplay and a story and characters that sacrifice their credibility for the sake of one plot twist and SHODAN fanboy pandering (which ironically ended up worsening that character's image and making her a less credible threat).

I actually think the first game is much better on most things, but maybe you want to play the second one first since it's easier to get into, and after that, you play the first. I really think it's worth it though, the best western game along Deus Ex in my opinion.

The original controls aren't bad, just slower and harder, most people won't like it. With the mouselook of the Enhanced Edition the controls really aren't bad at all. At first it may seem like a mess, but the complicated controls actually make sense and after some time I ended up appreciating them a lot. They're justified in the gameplay and aren't just convoluted for the sake of it.

Also uncalled for shilling, I know it's super cool to be cynical about new games, but the new Prey is very good.

I really like both games, and no it's not dumbass. They're very different games that experiment with different things, even if they're part of the same sub-genre. That's what makes them special.
