I was expecting to be blown away by the music in this game base on the reviews and word of mouth that it has been getting but after playing it for a while now there is nothing special or memorable to it. I actually cringed when I heard the little girl singing in the village of the machines which triggered the word on my mind "so try hard" for the feels. To me it is really trying drastically to be dramatic which is not really needed.

Aside from that, I don't like the gameplay and I am also not a fan of the boring side quests. I am not that far but I hope that this game will improve because i have bought the game, so i'm forced to keep playing this.

XIV's are good to play outside the game while Automata's are good to play in game. Sophia theme is so good but it doesn't fit the gameplay. The only songs that are not only good, but executed well were KOTR and Nidhogg's.

Automata has a very nice soundtrack, but I personally prefer NieR's soundtrack more. Like others have mentioned I adored the drums that the first one had, it really made the tracks in that game just batshit insane.

Snow In Summer is an incredible track with an insane build up that I just don't think Automata managed to match.

Still love both soundtracks though.

I bought Nier: Automata and Bayonetta simultaneously.
I regret playing Nier: A first

I would argue the first Nier's is more memorable but it wasn't designed to fit into the game the same way the soundtrack from Automata does.

The music and sound design in Automate are intertwined and so I feel it can lead the songs by themselves being limited on their own - they all gain greater significance when you see how they transition in/out during the game itself (Memories of Dust is a classic example of this)

It's one of the best soundtracks for a game ever, though, that's not really arguable.
