Real soldiers almost never see action. They keep the safety on and need permission to fire their weapons, and even then they fire at most one small burst that doesn't hit anyone in their entire tour. They are not able to just pick up weapons they find on the ground or that killed enemies drop.

It's almost as if video games are intended to be more exciting than real life.

Gun could be booby trapped or dangerously defective. Captured guns do actually see a little bit of use though. Guns that are in good condition and typically sent to allied forces, and (very) rarely a US soldier will be able to make use of them.
