The story is meandering and boring, the writers only knew how to write in one seemingly natural way so every character regardless of their personality talks the same, it's willing to throw out "damn" and "shit" but resorts to using the word "eff" in place of fuck for no real reason, it pounds in the idea that nothing matters and life is what you make of it but then none of the characters actually learn anything beyond that or grow up at all. Bad things happen to them because they're dumbasses.

Sadly. I felt it had good atmosphere at times and pleasant visuals, and if some themes had been approached more maturely and explored more extensively you might've had something. If there had been any meat on the bones it might've been an okay indie title, but it was barely a game as is. The story was sub-par in most regards, the humor was not only juvenile (which might've been excusable) but entirely derivative and unfunny. What this game had was not enough to keep it afloat amidst the rest of the very poorly executed elements.
This game is a bundle of failed execution, pandering, and sad what if's.

Certainly, to a degree. But this game not only pandered to a crowd with which I am at odds (I am entirely willing to admit it) but also to a crowd which couldn't have appreciated a good game if it had been there, and this is essentially the reason there wasn't a good game. You had a group of people making a game for the group they belonged to, a group of people which on the whole doesn't understand what makes good games.
I'm not saying the pandering itself is an issue, although I think it produced issues which were self-evident within the game, for example the triteness of the story, the unwillingness (or dare I say, inability?) to push any kind of boundaries and make a profound statement. A collection of tropes with little in the way of redemption besides.

I enjoyed it, but wasn't always fond of Mae as the main character.

Like, she's supposed to be a total self-destructive mess, but even at the end of her story arc with Bea where they're reaffirming their friendship I thought the way she acted was more grating and abrasive than endearing or loyal.

Literal wasted potential: the game.
It reminded me a lot of Oxenfree but that one had a complete plot that delivered. Also no Tumblr/Reddit pandering with gay couples and shit.
Together with Firewatch it will go to the wasted potential shelf of indie games.

The Jews were deemed harmful to their growth so they wanted them out of Germany, the Gypsies were nomads with no ties and love for the country, and the Gays were seen as harmful as well because birthing large families was important for Nazi growth.
