we have only seen half of them in action.

making a concrete decision when you do not yet possess all of the information is illogical.
>>

>>
>>376863053
Of course he is the best.
If you want to conquer the world, you need him to deliver your enemies.
If you are one of the other horsemen like famine or plague, you still need to suck death's dick.
If you are a necromancer, even your armies aren't endless without death.

No matter who you are, if you want to get shit done, you rely on this guy.

Death, War, Pestilence, and Famine.

IIRC he's not the literal manifestation of death.
He's just a really strong warrior who happens to be called death.
You could call him Wow The Edge and he would still be the same.

That is the real reason then i am disappointed that these guys are thinking such inside the box.
Considering the grandiosity oozing from this franchise i think a gradual progression of epicness is plot and scope would be cool.
Start out hack and slash, the go up to real time tactics or something akin to the kingdom under fire series, that combined strategy and hack and slash.

>>
>>376863053

I liked both War and Death. War was a bit more dry but it was nice to have an MC that wasn't to be made a fool off, and simply did work.

Death was also nice because of how surprisingly affable he was for being death.

Kinda hype to see what they do with Fury. I hope she isn't just strong proud woman or flippant cunt.

I would say they're more Zelda than GoW.

Darksiders 1 is basically Zelda + God of War
Darksiders 2 is Zelda + God of War + Diablo

But they're not necessarily taking the best parts of all those.

Strife is a petty asshole with inferiority issues and a love of killing shit. Death is the asshole big brother who loves them all but is willing to smack his siblings around if it will teach them a lesson.
>>
>>376868647
Eh, there's angels and demons who dislike eachother and that's it.

The basics of biblical angels and demons are completely different from how most fantasy stories adapt them, besides using some vague Christian imagery most "biblical" games aren't biblical at all. And for good reason, you gotta take a lot of artistic licenses to make a game where War can go around cutting up angels and demons.

From what the developers of DS3 have said so far Fury values "The Horsemen" as an institution more than any of the others. She genuinely respects and is loyal to the Charred Council in all things and wants to bring prestige to the Four Horsemen.

I'm sure at some point she will learn War was framed and Death sacrificed himself and it will change her mind on the matter or at least lead to some self-doubt.

I wonder if they were worried Red Dead Redemption 2 would siphon away all the cowboy/western fans if they went that direction for DS3. I'm assuming DS3 and RDR2 will launch within a year or two of each other.
>>
>>376869473
Wait, Darksiders 2 doesn't even run well on PS4? I was always under the impression it ran fine on consoles it was only the PC version that had issues.

Is that not the case?

>>
>>376869539
I thought Darksiders 2 happened while War was still imprisoned during the 100 years of End Times before he gets sent to Earth by the Charred Council.

I thought Darksiders 3 took place in that same 100 year period (i.e. both the second and third game being prequels of a sort).
>>
>>376869671
Well it's not that it runs like absolute garbage it's just it's a painfully mediocre hack and slash that doesn't even run all that well and I'm not going to waste my time and energy on it.

>>376870181
My worry is that because Darksiders 3 has a comparatively smaller budget than the previous games, that they won't bring back some of the awesome voice actors.

War is voiced by the guy who does Illidan.
Samael is voiced by Vernon Wells.
Vulgrim is voiced by Phil LaMarr.
Abaddon is voiced by Troy Baker.
The Charred Council is voiced by Fred Tatasciore.

I'm really worried the voice acting for three is gonna suck and be a bunch of new cheap/shitty voice actors to save on the budget.

Breaking the 7th Seal resets everything and brings all the Horsemen back for the End Times.

So, even though Death "sacrificed himself", he is brought back at the end of game (because the ending of DS2 coincides with the ending of DS1, i.e. the shattering of the Seventh Seal).

He did do a good job in DS1, but he has no reason to return. The Charred Council has no particular reason to bring back that SPECIFIC watcher, especially after it failed them.

>>376874128
>How would Famine work?
Ranged attacker that sets traps, like pools of toxins or acid or something. Heavily based on debuffing the enemy rather than cqc.

Famine should be a mix of ranged and melee, since he bears the scales of balance and all.

>>
>>376874406
But where Strife/Conquest is a physical ranged attacker, Famine would be a more magical/alchemical ranged attacker, like a mage or something.

Famine/pestilence would be like your standard wizard with a sickness twist, fighting by bending swarms of locusts, spewing clouds of disease, debilitating enemies, etc.
>>
>>376874424
I have to agree.

Arthas is a much better design than Fury
>>
>>376874464
The one liners in DS1 was on fucking point, my man.

>>
>>376874464
Abaddon did nothing wrong. Well, aside from being comparatively less prepared than the forces of Hell.

Realistically, if all the other Angels had listened to Abaddon and put all their resources towards the war at the End Times, the Hellguard might've stood a chance. The demons were prepping for war 24/7 while the angels were chilling.
>>
>>376874474
>can only kill things passively
Where did I say that fuckface? I just said that there's be traps and ranged attacks, not that you just poison the enemy and then dodge until it's dead.

Dumb, you either stick with solely famine or you get rid of Conquest and go with pestilence.

>>
>>376874128
How about this, he's a desiccated lich like dude. He could attack with armies of monster bugs / locusts. Throwing swarms of bugs at dudes, summoning stuff out of the ground.

Its a pretty difficult pitch, ditching the idea was probably for the best
>>
>>376875617

If you did a combo famine/pestilence thing and made him a caster type like your saying he could have swarms of insects that basically form melee weapons for his close range attacks while letting him have ranged abilities that are spells.
>>

I don't get it. Is he saying that he chose something a coward could not?

Abbadon had the choice during the beginning of Darksiders 1 to die resisting Hell's forces, or become a demon.

He chose the latter, War chose the former.

>>376869960
God of War at least has good set pieces and is at least more complex than Darksiders. I think there's very few games that can match the first God of War's opening in terms of how visceral it is.

The first Darksiders aped so much off of God of War down to the fucking music it was ridiculous.

Got the Fury Collection on PS4 on sale the other day, been enjoying it a lot. I originally beat DS1 but never tried DS2. Decided to do a fresh playthrough of the series.

I'm in the Iron Canopy atm getting close to Silitha and my Chosen Heart for Samael, game is just as fun as I remembered. Looking forward to beating Straga/Abaddon and starting DS2.

Also decided to go for the Abyssal Armor this time around which is something I hadn't done before. Got 6 out of 10 pieces so far.

I really, really, REALLY hope Darksiders 3 doesn't suck. It needs to sell well so we can get a game with Strife in it. I'm not even really hyped on Fury yet I'm still going to get it just because I adore this series.

Eh I figure as long as they throw in good supporting characters like Ulthane, Vulgrim, Samael, Azrael, Uriel, a new Watcher, a Wicked K cameo, etc. with lots of interactions accompanying them I can suffer through a Fury game.
>>
>>376883087
The newest IGN Darksiders 3 video tells us that one of the first areas we visit in the game (the giant tree) is where Ulthane lives, and that it's kind of like the game's central hub.
>>
>>376883087
Samael, Uriel, and Vulgrim are most likely assured considering when it takes place and where. Maybe an Ulthane mention or so like in 2. Wicked K will pop up in some manner though I could see it being closer to one if they want to emphasis castlevania. I'm not too sure about Azrael. I would hope more angels pop up since War and the last third of 2 was hell central.

Alright /v/, time to come up with Horse names for Fury & Strife.

War & Ruin, Death & Despair.

What should Fury and Strife ride?

Fury screams then turns into a banshee looking ghost thing and her whip turns into a Scourge (i.e. multi-tailed whip). She goes crazy with the aoe attacks and also subsequently gets a whip shield defense from projectiles.

Strife's mask falls/breaks away and he turns into a fallen angel, sprouts black wings from beneath his cape/poncho so he can fly freely and his guns turn into submachine guns.

I think Darksiders 3 will probably be something like:

>Kill the 7 Deadly Sins
>Oh no, who would've guessed Fury, the Charred Council was deceitful all along!
>Cue fight with the Keeper of Oblivion
>Fury wins and is now ready to stand with brothers against the universe

The Keeper is from the Abomination Vault book and is basically described as one of the Charred Council's more seasoned executioners.

"The Keeper of Oblivion is one of the most feared underlings of the Charred Council, possibly as feared as Death himself. He is described as being tall and broad shouldered, but emaciated to the point of being skeletally gaunt. Despite this, he is said to give the impression of having boundless strength."

"He is shown to be very well spoken, polite, and fairly quiet. The Keeper, much like Death, has not been seen without a mask, a slab of metal with tear-like trails of corrosion coming from the eye slits. The elder Horseman considers the Keeper a kindred spirit and arguably the closest thing he has to a friend outside the Four Horsemen. His title is his purpose: he functions as a punisher of souls sentenced by the Charred Council. By using a large, mirror like portal, he can send them into Oblivion, thus erasing them from existence entirely. He refuses to question the council's judgement on the matters of who he sends there as a means of protecting his sanity. "

>>376889087
Yeah but war is also a really strong warrior who happens to be good at killing things, like death.
>>
>>376871312
Lucifer has been pulling the strings of every major event so far. The council tried to stop him but did it by giving War the shaft, and now he's out for blood, his brothers (and sister) will likely aid him in taking them out in 5, then Lucifer will reveal that was his plan all along and now that there is nobody left to preserve the balance he will go off on a satanist crusade. Then game 6 is about taking him out and placing Samael as the head of Hell. He will agree to return to a neutral world state "For now", as an expression of "gratitude" for the horsemen helping him gain power.

Uriel will be the head of Heaven (aside from the creator himself, and maybe Michael if they choose to include him), she will fight with the horsemen from time to time over shit she is uniformed on, but will always end up more or less being on their side.

Series will end with the four horsemen replacing the charred council, with some quotable moment where they talk about their duty to preserve the balance.
>>
>>376889263

>>
>>376885347
based on that description of the keeper, he's likely not going to show up until the sequel to the whole series so far. The council will send him to keep the horsemen from killing the council, and he will work in a role similar to Uriel from DS1, where he tries to stop you throughout the game, only to join your side by the end. But he will die, saving the horsemen.

>>
>>376890306
Michael was always the closest to God, and basically the second mate of heaven. But really any of the archangels would do. And whether or not Uriel would suck at it doesn't really matter, she's an established character from the series whose already had interactions with two of the horsemen. She will clearly be playing a major role in the future of the series. Since the hellguard is basically the only glimpse of Heaven we've had (other than lostlight and eden), they will likely be the most prominent aspect in the future as well. Maybe spin it along the lines of Heaven has declared a police state where the hellguard has taken over command due to the endwar happening.

>>
>>376890505
That's only if they decided to draw heavily upon the named archangels to fill it out and if Strife ends up exploring heaven. God I hope he does. I will agree with your sentiment regarding Uriel, I can also see Azrael working with her since he seems to be so supportive and in a weird position like Lilith just more hands-on. Only for Uriel it wouldn't be really a police state, more of a "Holy shit you're the most experienced one so everyone eventually looked to you as the leader"

Yeah, police state was just the first term that I thought got the idea across, but basically just she's the head of heaven's defenses, and in war time they basically have the most influence over the entire kingdom.

I don't even think you need to wait for Strife to visit Heaven, the amazon bullet points about DS3 say she's going to travel to both Heaven and Hell. That could just be ad speak for the setting of the entire game universe, and she'll just be relegated to Earth for the whole thing, but I'm being optimistic and hoping we get to pay them both a visit in this game.

If not they'll definitely be a major part of the post DS1 games.

Also, Azrael betrayed the balance and War incinuated that he would be coming back to kill him dead. Uriel likely knows of his conspiracy by now (he hasn't exactly been hiding his guilt) so he's probably in lockup or something. I do like his character, though, so I'd like to see him have a prominent role again.

If Fury goes into heaven, it'll probably be a mix of one and two where it's like one Sin managed to get up there and masquerade as an angel for a while. I could see Envy being that sin or Pride but unless they do something where the mid-point has her starting to look into the council's shit, it'll probably just be a quick visit to Heaven then back to earth+hell.

True enough regarding Azrael but just everything surrounding him makes it seem like he's the angelic version of Lilith. Most likely knew about the destroyer's plot before Abbadon, didn't know what it was but just knew something was up. Got suckered into Lilith's little chess match at the start of one which caused him to get more serious about finding shit out and led to his presence in 2. It'll be interesting to see him in 3 if he pops up. I guess a better equivalent for him would be Samael.

Fury will be on something like rage or anger.

Strife may be on something optimistic. His guns are named mercy and redemption, so maybe they'll keep that antithesis theme going? Something like Retribution maybe?

So is this roughly the Darksiders timeline?

>DS1 starts, War gets imprisoned.

>DS3 starts, Fury is charged with hunting down the Seven Deadly Sins.

>DS2 starts, Death wants to help War.

>DS1 continues, War fights against the Hellguard.

>DS2 ends, Death sacrifices himself to revive humankind.

>DS1 ends, War breaks the last seal, summoning all horsemen, basically reviving Death.
>>
>>376891861
Wasn't War imprisoned for a very long time?
>>
>>376891946
100 years
>>
>>376891946
Yea, in DS2 The Chancellor (Land of the Dead) alludes to this, stating that War's Soul is being tortured in the Abyss.
>>
>>376891861
It's more like:
>DS4, Strife does something that causes him to leave his guns behind with Ulthane and in the Forgelands. May be dead

>DS1 starts, War gets imprisoned.

>DS3 starts, Fury is charged with hunting down the Seven Deadly Sins.

>DS2 starts, Death wants to help War.

>DS2 ends, Death sacrifices himself to revive humankind.

>DS3 ends, Fury's probably dead

>DS1 continues, War fights for vengeance

>DS1 ends, War breaks the last seal, summoning all horsemen, basically reviving Death and possibly Fury+Strife

Going off of what's seen in the two anyway.

Is the time between Death encountering Samael in 2 and War encountering Samael in 1 really so short? He was definitely imprisoned by the Destroyer before War goes back to Earth after the prologue, but I thought Death ran into him near the end of 2?

>>

Azrael? Oh yeah, he shows up helps out Death. Death talks him into doing some stuff. I can't quite remember if it's near the end or in city of the dead but the whole well of Souls business means he shows up

>>376892171
The final dungeon of Darksiders 2 involves time travel, and you fight Samael in the past version of his home (I think), so really that just means that Death traveled back to before his imprisonment.

If I'm wrong and the fight is in the present, then yeah whatever I guess DS2 just basically takes place entirely near the beginning of War's imprisonment.

If the devs ever manage to survive long enough to make all 4 horsemen games then make a final game, how will they handle the horsemen?

In both games so far, they have implied that the horsemen were not at their full strength (War is explicitly cucked by the council, stripped of most of his powers, only regaining a fraction over the course of the game, and Death is working outside of the council's orders, and is alluded to also be weaker as a result by the chancellor or king of the dead, I forget which.)

How will they show them at full power in the big joint games, or will they just write in something to weaken them again?

>>376893052
Throughout the series, Samael is seen to have a bizarre sense of knowledge of events that he has no way of knowing (He somehow witnessed War fighting the chosen despite being nowhere near the areas where the fights are). He also knows that Abbadon is the destroyer, and that Azrael and Ulthane helped him. It is implied that he has a level of near omniscience, which is what makes him a threat to Lucifer and is the main reason for his imprisonment in the first place.
>>
>>376893293
Well, there's a hint of how that might work in the prologue of Darksiders 1. War has unlimited Chaos Form until the horn sounds the first time.
>>
>>376893293
Depending on when they get all four finished out and packaged and make a fifth one, I could see them actually using trophy/cheevo data in a similar manner that DS2 uses it to give you the DS1 items. Only instead of one off items, it's the horsemen starting out at max health/wrath of the first games in full abyssal armor or something. Maybe just full abyssal armor from the start and the whole reason to get health/wrath upgrades is because of Council fuckery since War will obviously tell his siblings what happened. As for their super forms, I could see them doing a kind of Bayo type thing where all their attacks have a superimposed attack from their mega form. Of course, considering the bosses for five would be on a truly primordial level I can see it being something like every boss causes them to stay in super mode for the duration of the boss fight/damage phase.
>>
>>376893690
>Superimposed super form for attacks
Death has that for a few of his scythe combos already, so I could see this being expanded.

Basically I expect them to do something like what you said, where they are all super powered up like they are at the ends of their games, but the class of enemy they go up against is now so much more powerful that it just balances out.
>>
>>376893871
Death's evade also ends up getting that too, although compared to War it seems like Death is more in tune with his. Could've just been design scopes being different between the games though instead of in-game reasons.

Man War's counter-attack would've been so much better if he flashed into Chaos form for the retaliation.

>Fury and Strife
>not Famine and Pestilence
>implying there's a difference between Conquest, War, Strife and Fury

Fucking dropped. Famine and Pestilence would have been so easy to design instead of copypasta. They're already stealing the gameplay from Zelda and God of War, and now they can't even come up with some original character work? Make Famine the whip user (tongue) with some edgy Kirby mechanics, and make Pestilence a jolly fat nigger with a permanent minion entourage (plays like Overlord, looks like 40k's Nurgle).

If I can come up with at least this much in less than 2 minutes for the purpose of shitposting on a Latvian vuvuzela appreciation board, then these hacks have zero excuse and will NOT be receiving my money for their terrible game.
>>
>>376894030
I think that has to do with the council limiting War's power. Death gains his true form as a result of leveling up, and it gets more powerful as it goes along. War is literally on a leash by the council, and all his powers are basically only allowed to him at their command. The only reason he even gets chaos form at all is because Samael intervenes.

Death is working outside of the Council's directive, so it's implied that he's only as strong as he was before they made their deal with the council. However, during the game as Death runs around, he gets experience from fighting and ends of being NATURALLY strong enough to use some of the powers that he used to need the council to give to him. Presumably this means that with the full power restored he'll be even more absurdly powerful.
>>
>>376894290
True enough, I wonder if Fury will get boosted because she's working under the council's purview. Oh man now that would make for an interesting twist. The first two Fury has an easy time dealing with because she's empowered by the council, so she's like as strong as death at the end of 2 or stronger. Does something in defiance of the Council and they hamstring her while expecting her to go kill the other five sins leading her to having to go through typical growth and leading to her siding with War with minimal convincing.
>>
>>376884763

Darksiders 2's story in general wasn't as tight or as well written as the first one. I think too many resources went into making a "big" world with lots of "content" and so with so many side characters to fill this "big" world they were unable to flesh them all out thoroughly as a result.

I think they also probably struggled with the fact they knew they had to write a prequel from the get-go, so they were slightly more restricted in what was possible in their universe. They knew the endpoint they had to finish on I guess is what I'm getting at.

I'm hoping Darksiders 3 strikes a more healthy balance between the two games, i.e. it isn't as long as Darksiders 2, but the content is more interesting and far less repetitive like Darksiders 1 was.

War was super into war and combat so he called himself "War". Death considered himself responsible for untold genocides, has a connection with necromancy and an affinity for the dead so he called himself "Death".

Strife even calls him out on trying to be their leader again after being gone for so long, promptly getting shut the fuck down, of course.

Death is the overall strongest of the four but has the weakest horse.

In the book War likes Uriel, she's like a rookie, basically an 18 year old private in the Hellguard.
He basically decides to knock her ass out instead of cutting her in half because he admired how she stood her ground and told him to fuck off or bring it on after he cut his way through her entire platoon and mentor.
What's more impressive is that she doesn't seem to hold that against him as he was doing his duty, same as her. They're actually pretty similar people, which is why War gets all doe eyed when she's around, she tickles his duty pickle.
