Not the way the books described it because it took two to three minutes for them to complete a morph. That's how Rachel died in the last book. You'd either need to keep the characters form-locked for each segment, or just accept that there needs to be artistic license for the sake of game mechanics.

I think the synopsis was that there were a group of kids that when they fell asleep in their own world, they would be transported to a different world. >>376867534
Toby got some weird-ass god-magic that let him morph again. The catch was that being a bird was his new base form so he could only be a human for a couple hours. He could choose to be a real boy but it would mean permanently not being able to morph again.
>>
>>376867534

The Ellimist (an all powerful character obviously inspired by Q from Star Trek) gave him the morphing power back.

>>376867493

He's not credited anywhere, but Applegate's husband Micheal Grant actually wrote just as much of the series as she did.
>>
>>376867534

Tobias had divine intervention from the Ellemist, a being that had basically attained god status. David had the unfortunate luck of not being one of the Ellemist's vital chess pieces in a game he was playing with another god, so he didn't get his shit unfucked.

>>
>>376867816

The book was written by someone else, but they're not credited.

You'll still see the original authors name on the cover.
>>
>>376867816
It means the actual writing of the book is done by someone else using plot summaries written up by Applegate.

It's like the difference between writing the story and writing the screenplay in movies and TV.
>>
>>376867816

A book is said to be "ghostwritten" when someone besides the author on the cover actually wrote it. After #26 Applegate would write an outline and Scholastic would outsource the actual books to other writers. That's why the plot barely moves for the second half of the series.
>>
>>376867816
Author would give the outline of the story for another writer to write.
>>
>>376867816
Other people can write it under the name, think the Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew for excellent examples.
>>
>>376867816
The creator was too busy, so some other writer wrote it and put KA Applegate's name on it.
>>
>>376867821

>>
>>376867950

In addition, you can see the real writer's name on the acknowledgement page in the front, where it would say "KA Applegate would like to thank '_________' for assistance on this manuscript" or something like that.
>>
>>376867973
He doesn't have that form any more since it got sucked into a black hole. He's just an entity lurking in the universe's control room.

I read the first few books but it was just too out there for me. The ship made environments based on art that was stored on the human ship, including pic related.

I remember giving a book report on one of them and having to be like, "Yeah, it's weird.".
>>
>>376867821
Was there a point to that weird book that sent Jake into the future by like 30 years.

There was some weird voice at the end that Jake said didn't sound like the Ellimist or Crayak, but then they never touched on it again.

Yeah, that never came up again. A lot of people theorize that it was "The One" who they run into at the end of the series, but I doubt it.

Not who you responded to, but obviously. That's why all that shit could go off the rails, but shit still worked out ok.

It never should have happened. Honestly, they figured out Jake was the leader and they DIDN'T just send the cloaked Blade Ship straight to his house, but sent his parents home to shoot Jake from the car?

No fucking way Visser 3 would trust anyone else to remove the biggest thorn in his balls.
>>

But it was like bombing an enemy medical tent.

They were enemy combatants, but couldn't possibly pose a threat at that point.

Does the dude who got turned into a hawk ever become human again?

Are the green aliens ever relevant beyond their standalone book?

Was it ever explained how the yeerks got so powerful when they couldn't do shit without a host? I never got how they could over the green aliens and the blue aliens that were the original morphers when they literally couldn't do shit by themselves.

>>
>>376869383

IIRC the Yeerks were still running a covert invasion at that point, and having a spaceship fly by and blow a crater in the middle of a neighborhood would've given them away. Visser Three wasn't promoted to One until later, and that's when he finally said "Fuck it, we're doing shit my way now. Round all the primitive monkeys up and force march them to the fucking pools."

Hawk dude gains the ability to morph again, and gets a morph form of his old human body, but he never becomes fully human again. And yes, the Yeerk's rise to power is explained. I'm pretty sure there was a book that is ALL about how Visser 3 got his Andalite body.
>>
>>376869397

No, medical personnel are protected by the laws of war. Guys just laying around at the base are fair game. It's not like the Yeerks signed the Geneva Convention anyway.

Besides, Jake had no way of knowing that they were going to win. If the Animorphs had lost, flushing the pool would have at least slowed down the invasion. It was absolutely the right call.
>>
>>376869425

The Hork-Bajir book explains it. The Andalites didn't take the Yeerks seriously as a threat, only a minor nuisance. By the time they realized how dangerous the Yeerks really were, the Yeerks had already enslaved the entire Hork-Bajir species and now had a near endless supply of shock troops that also had opposable digits to build better ships and weapons.

>>
>>376869249
I don't even remember it was that long ago. Something to do with their parents and Olaf being in a secret organization called the volunteer fire department and then the organization split into heros and villains or something. Olaf burns their house down, kills their parents, and the chases them for ages. It ends with them ending up on some island with a bunch of ship wrecked people where they're exposed to a dangerous fungus that was brought to the island in a divers helmet or something. They're saved from this after eating a horseradish infused apple since horseradish is an antitoxin or something to the fungus and that saves them. They're free from Olaf in the end but I can't remember if he dies from the fungus or just gives up or something.

It was actually more of a personal issue for Jake.

"Jake, you can't. . ." She took a deep breath.
"You can't equate the victim and the perpetrator."
90
"So as long as you're playing defense it's not
possible to commit a war crime?" I asked. "That's
pretty close to just saying that the winner makes
the rules because it's the winner who writes the
history."
She grabbed my arm and searched for my eyes,
forcing me to look at her. "No, Jake, it isn't.
There are a lot of close calls in history, lots of
wars where the blame is evenly split between the
sides. This isn't one of them. Before they came
to Earth no human ever attacked a Yeerk. No human
ever harmed a Yeerk. This one is clear: We
are the victims. They made war on us."
"That's good," I said softly. "All of that is
good. We have justification. We're the good
guys."
Marco said, "That's right, Big Jake, we are."
I nodded. "That's good for the big picture.
See, my problem is a little more personal."
<What do you mean?> Ax asked.
"Well, Ax-man, you're right, you did call my
attention to the possibilities on the Pool ship.
And when you did that I guess I should have
thought, Well, Jake, it's a harsh, terrible thing to
do, but you're justified because, after all, you're
the victim here. But that's not what I thought.
You know what I thought?"
Cassie released her grip on me. But Marco
just took a step up close, right in my face.

No, they weren't psychic. They spoke through telecommunication, but couldn't read minds. There was one species that could (can't remember the name, but they were amphibious), and that's why the Andalites abandoned earth for years. That planet was the bigger priority, because it would destroy their intelligence gathering capabilities granted by the ability to morph.
>>
>>376869902
"I know what you thought, Jake. You thought
Die, you filthy worms. Feel the fear, Yeerks. Feel
the pain. Feel the helplessness. You wanted
them to suffer and the idea of them suffering and
dying made you happy. You were thrilled. You
were high."
Cassie winced. She looked away.
I said, "Yeah, Marco. That was about it: word
for word."
"Well, dude, you don't get to be a war criminal
by thinking bad thoughts. It's what was done,
not what was felt or thought. You have to judge
the act. You were acting in self-defense. You
were enjoying the fact that you were winning.
Two different things."
Cassie seemed less certain. Far less. She
seemed ready to join in with Marco, but she
couldn't bring herself to do it. She tried to hide
it, but there was this look in her eyes, this sideways
look at me.
<Prince Jake,> Ax said, giving me back the title
he'd given me long ago, <l am not a human.
But it seems to me that it is up to your own
people to decide the morality of your actions.
Their decision seems clear. My people agree with
that assessment. We, the An'rmorphs under your
leadership, stopped the Yeerk threat. We saved
Earth. We may have saved my people as well,
surely we saved many, many Andalite lives.>

I was suddenly exhausted. Worn out all the
way, deep down. And everyone had run out of
things to say.
After a long, awkward silence I said, "Anyway.
That..." I gestured out toward the water. I
wanted to say that it was the first real joy I had
felt since seeing Rachel kill Tom. But there was a
wall between me and Cassie. And Marco, well,
he's a guy and we guys don't do a lot of emotional
stuff with one another. "Anyway. I'll be
good tomorrow, on the stand."

Well, a lot of the other villains that are seen usually wind up dead. Visser 3 really hates failure.

If the team met someone with power, and that person didn't stop them, the Yerk was more than likely tortured ala Visser 1 when she was undergoing starvation just a few inches from the Yerk Pool.

This series always fucking oscillated between gritty grimdark of war and lighthearted adventure romp with teenage kids.

If i were to look back, I wouldn't be surprised if this was due to whoever was the writer.

Story could never be taken seriously on its merits, it was just one random shit after another.

Saying I said doesn't give us any indication on how a character is expressing themselves. That said, there's nothing wrong with using ""said" a lot; but if there's an overabundance without setting some sort of verbal tone you're not really assisting with the reader's mental portrayal of a scene.

Also my prose is fine, thanks for asking.
It's my punctuation that's fucked.

Don't forget that at the end she was literally hitting him with both at once. Tobias was literally going insane from it, because his mind was interpreting pain as pleasurable.

In one of the books, they literally commit genocide.

They go out investigating a sunken nuclear sub, and when it melts down (there was weird alien shit involved), they get flung back 65 million years and have to take dinosaur morphs.

They encounter a colony nice displaced crab alien refugees that have made earth their home, (I think they were called the mercora or something.), along with a hostile race of aliens called the nesk, who are literally made up of ants that combine to imitate other species forms that they conquer so that they can use their technology.

As it happens, in order to reverse the weird time travel stuff, they need a release of energy equal in power to the sub undergoing meltdown, so they morph t-rexes and steal a nuke from the nesk, and have their asses saved by the mercora.

The nesk then ragequit earth, and pull THE asteroid out of its orbit that would have normally gone straight past the planet.

The mercora ask for the nuke so as to break up the asteroid, which will soon fall directly on their colony, which is the literal last home of their species.

So the animorphs give it to them, with the justification that smaller asteroid impacts will be of sufficient energy to send them back.

But knowing that human life will not evolve if the mercora colonize earth and the dinosaurs don't die, they secretly disable the nuke, condemning the species to extinction.

And so there's a section where the mercoa take their last crippled ship up to drop the nuke with a bunch of kids talking about how the mercora must know by it should have gone off by now, and that that they stabbed them in the back in cold-blooded genocide.

>OH, SUSANNAH!

Susannah and Jane shared a small apartment near the university where they were students. When Susannah got back from the library one night, the lights were out and Jane was asleep. Susannah undressed in the dark and quietly got into bed. She had almost fallen asleep when she heard someone humming the tune to the song “Oh, Susannah!”

“Jane,” she said, “Please stop humming; I want to get some sleep." Jane didn’t answer, but the humming stopped, and Susannah fell asleep. She awakened early the next morning–too early, she decided–and was trying to get back to sleep when she heard the humming again. "Please go back to sleep,” she told Jane. “It’s too early to get up.”

Jane didn’t answer, but the humming continued. Susannah became angry. “Cut it out!” she said. “It’s not funny.” When the humming still did not stop, she lost her temper. She jumped out of bed, pulled the covers off Jane, and screamed….

Jane’s head was gone! Somebody had cut off her head! “I’m having a nightmare,” Susannah told herself. “When I wake up, everything will be all right….”

Seriously, what was this doing in my elementary school's library? Creepy pastas before the internet.

Recently reread this because I remembered the first book being crazy as shit with a cool theme. It was a bit disappointing, overall, the characters felt a bit shallow and the ending, while suitably insane and inappropriate for soccer moms as I expected, was a bit of an anticlimax. Despite it being about literally ending the fucking universe and rebooting it.

The fourth one where he joins the military has some amusing military jokes. Makes me wonder if the author was in it once or had some close relation to it.

>that Goosebumps book that ends with the male MC turning into a girl

my erections were never the same
>>
I can't remember anything about one book series except this, and I might be fudging some details; at one point the main girl returns to her home village, which is freezing cold and surrounded by ice, and she gets judged by the 'elders'. They start chanting and she feels her spirit move out of her body and into the cold, then shes very cold, her heart stops and restarts, she's 'reborn' or something and she goes back to meet the MC.
Also at the end of the book they run up a spiral staircase I believe, open the door, and find the evil magician(?) standing there.
Never got to read the next one because I don't know the name.

VFD was "volunteer fire department", which was a big organization dedicated to rescuing people intially which split between altruists (baudelaires' parents) and those who wanted to make money from the operation (such as Count Olaf).

Originally VFD were the good guys and Olaf was one of the good guys, but then the schism happened. Think the Civil War storyline from Marvel kind of.

Read the books. There's a race of genocidal monsters programmed by what amounts to a space god that sees the killing of other races of a game (their minds were compared to dolphins at one point) that was reprogrammed by the Animorphs by forcing ideas back into their hive mind with the help of an ancient dog robot that survived the slaughter of his masters by the aforementioned killers. The main plot of the books is a covert invasion by alien slugs that wrap around your brain to dominate you completely. You never know who might be infested, and your neighbor, mother, brother, or best friend might have been hijacked long ago to try and recruit you. On the more lighthearted side, there are space centaurs addicted to cinnamon buns. Further up the thread there's a link to all the books and reviews of the books that also summarize them.

I remember in my first year of middle school (so like grade 4 or 5 I guess) I found this one sci-fi novel in the school library that was so dark I thought I was committing a crime or something by reading it. All I can recall was that it had two protagonists, one was like a hard boiled detective type who was investigating a murder and I remember the scene were he sees the crime scene for the first time and It was describing how he had been killed with some kind of futuristic weaponry of some kind and the floor and wall next to where he had been shot was completely covered in blood basically like he had been gibed or something. The second protagonist was literally a prostitute working in some kind of weird alien brothel and there was even a weird alien sex scene thing. I still cant believe that was really in the school library, maybe it was for the older students? Why wasn't I stopped from checking it out then?

>>
What the fuck why do all of you know so much about this shit?
I remember like vauge parts of 3 or 4 books, these things had such a continous storyline and too many fucking books for that.
Let me try to gather what I remember
>tobias was some borderline homeless kid that got trapped into being a hawk and his aunt and uncle literally did not care
>Cassie was some black farmgirl that was always doing something dumb
>Jake was the leader or something
>Rachel was hot blonde, that's literally all I remember about her
>Ax was the last of the wiped out aliens that gave them their powers, and he had some catchphrase that pissed Jake off, "thusly" or something like that

As for the books I remember
>one has Cassie be a tiger during a bank robbery or something (very vague on this)
>another had a race of tiny people, hermaculons, try to invade earth, apparently it was a female dominated society and their captain was a corpse
> they travel back in time and become dinosaurs and theres a race of people made up of ants trying to rule

But the best one I remember, was one where they go back in time with the help of some God, and they kill Hitler or something, kill the yeerk from back then and they come back to the future and the countries are changed.

I also happen to remember a couple books where they tried to infiltrate some of those parties the yeerks had where they get new hosts.

Motherfuckers, she let Tom go in order to force Jake to kill him. She knew that Jake didn't have the balls to do it under normal circumstances so she let Tom get his hands on the cube so that he wouldn't have any other choice.

This was fucking explicit.

that was part of the allure, in the last book that is addressed

>it's supposed to suck
kys Lemony Snickett
>>
>tfw only book series I really cared about was the Magic Treehouse
I managed to collect every one up to around 31, and then the 35th one a little while later.
Remember almost everything about them all too.

Even got the author's non fiction book on Greek mythology.

It was actually really straightforward with a few exceptions here and there.

Butler lived, Foaly got a girlfriend, everyone on the human side of things got their memory erased like they had been promised in the first book, and then Holly goes and starts telling Artemis the entire story from the opening lines of book one. I actually liked it a lot.

I know that Snickett said that things being unresolved was done on purpose but it felt like an excuse.

All the suffering of the Baudelaire was caused by the unresolved stuff and the unresolved stuff was impacting the world based on all the vague hints in the last few books.

I'm not too big a fan of leaving things unresolved on purpose, but in this case I think its fine because it was supposed to reflect the cruel uncaring world.

Like how the eldritch monster that kills everything is just a question mark, and is probably just a metaphor for death.

I own every animorphs book, but the only ones I remember anything about were the chronicles books. It felt like the main books were all just filler.

as a person who plays Team Fortress 2 I completely agree with Snickett's choice.

it's so cool to go past doors marked "top secret" which you'll never see the other side of, or long shady hallways stretching to unknown doomsday devices and shit

you know what's not cool? when they released Meet the Pyro and then Pyro's mysterious personality was reduced to "so wacky child baby rainbows ponies xD"

some things are more alluring when left to the imagination

No, they don't kill Hitler. He was just a driver in that timeline.

They still kill him
