Yeah, it controls similar to SG, also, if you're in it for the story, you want to start with Xrd SIGN, and buy Rev 2 when it comes out in a couple weeks. It's close enough to release that you can practice the game's basics on SIGN, but you can skip the first Revelator because it'll be outdated really soon and IIRC Rev 2 has all of Rev 1's story in it.

The GGXrd soundtrack is good, but the problem is that it's lacking memorable melodies. You can probably sing, to some degree, Holy Orders or Awe of She, but you can't do that with most of Xrd's music. Weirdly enough, Blazblue's music is a lot more memorable because it doesn't limit itself to being "just metal." Blazblue takes into account a lot of harpsichord, synthesizers, orchestral instruments, and a lot of other things that lend themselves to making memorable melody lines.

Right, my friends and I play a game called Lethal League. I know it's not your typical fighting game, but it's in the same vain.

Anyway, thought I'd expand a bit and try a 'real' fighting game. Thought I'd try Xrd 'REVELATOR'. While I'm blown away by the presentation, animation, character design, etc., is the movement supposed to feel this clunky?

Again, new to this genre, so dunno if it's specific to this game, or just fighting in general. I should be using the D-pad, right (more consistent...?) Dashes felt dodgy otherwise, maybe I just need practice. Anyway, my thumb got stiff after a while. Felt better playing faster character rather than the tutorial, but... is this the norm? Any games with more fluid movement, or should I just practice?

Guilty Gear has a decent amount of that, but the story is never taken too seriously. If you want that kind of stuff played straight, you want Blazblue, there's a lot of time loops/traveling and alternate universe fuckery. BB is so ridiculously chuuni it's hard to follow. GG gets a bit chuuni at times but for the most part you can just watch it with no problem, whereas BB just absolutely loves to drop random terms that mean nothing. So much of the dialog is made up of random chuuni words mashed together. And the worst part is that you open the in game wiki to try to make sense of that shit and it might literally just say something like "no one is really sure what this means". It's crazy. GG does this a bit but most of the times it does it's when it's purposefully trying to portray the characters as being confusing in general.
