This is goty 2017 and one of the best games I have played in years
talk about it
>>376842846
FUCK worms, bugs rule
FUCK this enemy
>>376842846
Rabi-Ribi is ten times better than this shit.
>>376843273
The flying mantis fucks with their homing scythes in Queen's Gardens are worse.
>>376842846
Lmaoooo that game was fucking BORING.
Pic related was the best character and you can't prove me wrong
>>376843339
Your weebshit is irredeemable trash and Hollow Knight outclasses it in every way, go back to jerking off to cartoons children and let real men talk.
>>376842846
Does the whole game look like a sad blue and black pit of hades or does it get better?
>>376843339
>clusterfuck fapbait weebshit
nah
>>376842846
What's a good metroidvania like HK?
>>376843526
There's a fair amount of visual variety, just keep exploring.
I'm having fun but the areas are so huge that they're starting to trigger me. I HATE leaving unexplored areas behind.
>>376842846
>This is goty 2017
Nah. It's good, but it's not even the best exploring game this year.
>>376843526
The game is surprisingly varied and pretty to look at. This is the second area, for example.
>>376843526
It changes to green, orange, brown, white and a way darker blue and black. Doesn't ever really lose the sad theme though.
>>376843487
>>376843530
Kill yourselves. I love both HK and Rabi-Ribi. I don't know which is better.
I do know that you shitposters need to end your lives as soon as possible for screaming "weebshit" every time you see anime.
Why is hit stop like 2 seconds long in this game? This is unplayable, which is a shame because otherwise it seems fantastic.
>>376843591
>Metroidvania
>-vania
HK has almost no Castlevania elements, so I'm not sure what you're asking for.
post lewd
>>376843793
Fog Canyon isn't the second area, that's Greenpath.
>>376844053
Fuck off and kill yourself.
>>376843775
what is the better exploring game
>>376844283
I know I'm just going to be shitposted for it, but I know I'm right, so I'm not going to bother with shitposters.Prey
>>376844035
Combat being styled around melee rather than ranged as well as general enemy and boss behavior are very similar to GBA/DS era Castlevania games. The amount of 'customization' in the form of charms is also significantly more like Castlevania than Metroid.
tl;dr, you need to look harder.
>>376844139
>not crystal caverns
WRONG
>>376844745
The defining quality of -vania since SotN is RPG elements like stats and limited use weapons. HK doesn't have any of these. Charms are more like standard Metroid powerups than Castlevania weapons.
>But it's a melee game
Is this really the best you can come up with?
>>376844283
La-Mulana 2 BAYBEE. 2 months left before /v/ reveals its true casual colors.
>>376842846
I'm still waiting for it to come to Switch. Have they said anything new?
Didn't they say they'd be making other character's playable?
>>376843591
Did you play Salt and Sanctuary?
>>376845194
not yet.
>>376845457
We do know there's a hornet campaign in development at least.
>>376844283
Pic related
Lecarde Chronicles 2 is god-tier Castlevania, best game in the genre since SOTN
>>376845178
I truely am waiting for la-mulana 2
>>376845520
I think there was also a second character stretch goal on the kickstarter page that had a silhouette of a character that looked like Zote.
>>376845081
Metroidvania is just the genre name for games with Metroid or post-SOTN Castlevania map design, with character upgrades peppered about and progress gated by character abilities.
Axiom Verge is self-described as a metroidvania, and that game is like 99% b-tier Metroid.
Basically, any game that is like Metroid but is not literally a Metroid game.
this game had one of the best money/time value ratios I have seen in a while
pic related is my first playthrough (100%)
Gonna try the permadeath mode later this month when I have the time
>>376843339
>Rabi-Ribi
Literally who
>>376845864
yeah, but they didn't reach that, so it's not confirmed. Since the game actually sold well, we might get it, tough.
I might be interested in playing this if it wasn't so visually unappealing.
>>376846016
>Axiom Verge is self-described as a metroidvania, and that game is like 99% b-tier Metroid.
Yes, that's the problem I'm having. Why are we relating things to Castlevania when they have no distinct Castlevania elements?
I really hope they keep updating the game
I want a boss rush mode
>>376843339
yeh
if yer a WEEB
>>376845651
has anybody else played this?
>>376846214
I thought that too but after playing for a while I found myself really fond of the graphics. The artstyle works better when playing rather than watching screenshots
I was about to stop playing after 2 hours but I pushed through and it's probably one of my favorite games of all time now
I can't believe how massive the game is. It has so many areas and such variety
My charge attack randomly stops working on the dung beetle boss
Only works again if I quit out and reload
>>376844053
>tfw no bug wife
>>376846242
It's -vania because it's referring specifically to the things SOTN lifted from Metroid. So , yeah, Metroidlike would probably be a better name.
>>376846409
It's also probably the most non-linear the genre has ever been. There's like 3 different ways of getting into the crystal mines, for example.
>>376846609
>Metroidlike would probably be a better name.
How about "Open world platformer"?
>>376846409
That's really my only gripe with the game is that it takes a bit too long to really get going. For the first hour or two you kinda just fuck around with no powerups or mobility options and you end up thinking it's gonna be shit, until you actually get to the powerups and suddenly it's fucking amazing the rest of the way through. It felt like playing Super Metroid for the first time again as a kid.
>>376843526
it has variety, but black is kind the predominant color
>>376846431
game still have minorbugs, you should record it and send it to the twitter devs
>>376846771
metroidvania sounds cooler
its like roguelike, the original meaning has lost its purpose
>>376842846
It feels like Ori and the Blind Forest in reverse. Both games are really good (my GOTYs per each year) with great atmospheres. However, while Hollow Knight's combat and length are great and Ori's aren't, the platforming and movement are the opposite case.
>>376843339
Thanks for admitting you're retarded dude, really cool bit of info
Still waiting on the switch version
I like that the game has a oddly mellow (sometimes with the music almost happy) tone despite a focus on a dying/zombiefied world
>>376850926
>tfw voice starts singing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1unm0LS10ao
I liked the lore behind about that too
