Anyone fuck with this?
I can't get the fog to work.

I never played SIlent 2 but I love the OST. Im not a big fan of survivor horrors. Is it worth getting the hd collection?

Same problem OP. Some ruskie got the HD textures in without fucking up the lighting but the PC build has had piss poor fog in comparison to the PS2 version since it came out.
>>
>>376836028
>Is it worth getting the hd collection?
No. Fuck no. HELL no.
The SH's "HD" "Collection" is THE biggest blunder of the century. THE most embarrassing POS ever released with words "HD" and "remaster" on the cover. EVERYTHING is buggy, downgraded, and horrible. Literally.

Just get the entire original quadrilogy for your PC, and play in the release order! Here's the handy SH PC Guide + the DL links:

SH1 NTSC DDL:

SH4 DDL:

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.
If you use the NEW widescreen fixes mentioned in guide, the sh2proxy's EXE works as no-cd crack too.

In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.
You can now see fine emulator settings for SH1 in the guide. You may also try the newer PGXP emulator for wobble-free PS1 graphics.

why's /v/ so out of sync with modern stuff all the sudden? We got the Fog Fix for PC port of SH2 already couple years ago!

what HD textures? The textre work was always great and identical in PC and PS2 versions.

that's because people tend to turn OFF the film grain to demonstrate them sweet textures and models better.

while the video is top-notch & kek, I would NOT recommend watching it before you've beaten SH1-3. Tons of huge spoilers, everywhere.

here's a-OK summary of some of the worst offenders in the "HD" versions, and that's just scratching the peak of the iceberg.

still looks too clean

most older horror games, silent hill especially, just look better in its original format

in the PSX and PS2 era most devs designed the visual of games with jaggies and other imperfections in mind, and made visuals to accommodate it.

Isn't the low resolution grainy look part of the style the game is trying to achieve?

I personally play it onmy Ps2 on my old shitty CRT 14 inch tv. Looks amazing and is comfy as fuck.
>>
>>376840326
nothing's stopping you from playing the PC port at 480p and grain enabled, if you really dig that shit.

I just hope you're not mixing the PC port with the god-awful X360/PS3 "HD" ports. They have nothing in common.
>>
>>376840712
>Isn't the low resolution grainy look part of the style the game is trying to achieve?
No. It's literally aiming for slightly stylized photorealism, as well as physically possible at the time on PS2. The noise-effect was used to make the game appear "less CG-y".

but yeah, if you're a "muh authentic aestetics!"-fag, PS2+CRT are a must have combo. I have had both versions for ages, but I do mostly play the PC port these days.

The world and its details are NOT one and single model. That practice you're trying to demonstrate does not apply like that.

Even modern games use more "stretched" environmental details all the time, simply because it usually works. And I do honestly think Team Silent's work indeed works and looks great.

>>
>>376843862
you clearly are unfamiliar with the late-90s / early 00s console (and PC) game design styles and limitations. Even the textures themselves were seldom in uniform size, and things like repetition were manually achieved illusions, using things like small (32x32 - 128x128) texture "tiles", that would then be stacked next to each other, sometimes with some mirroring and 90 degree rotating in order to break visible patterns.
It can be just about spotted in this screenshot, on the floor for example, and it'd be even easier to recognize in SH1. The great art-directing (and the era's low res + poor monitor tech) however do make things look fairly cohesive and uniform.

this is only the case if you have amd apparently. Speaking from experience because I have a top of the line pc and i can barely run mgs 2 and 3
>>
>>376847728
>are you the original SH copy pasta anon?
Yeah.
>is it true that the HD remakes had to use some shitty buggy beta version of the game because they couldnt find the original source ?
Yes, but that's only half of the truth and excuses for all the bullshit. To name some major examples, the HD porting team was a literal no-name MOBILE APP dev team with zero console & PC game development experience, and there was tons of childish drama behind the scenes - like Konami not wanting to pay the old devs & VA actors for re-using their old assets again.

You can see a decent summary of the bullshit in the pic at: >>376839560.

If you HAVE already played SH1-3, and thus aren't afraid of spoilers, I recommend dedicating couple hours of your time to watch the super-indepth 2-part analysis / review video of the SH HD Collection made by TwinPerfect. It's hilarious and sad little documentary about the literal blunder of the millennium.
>>
>>376848028
>this is only the case if you have amd apparently.
Nope. I have a decent 2011-tier Intel + Nvidia PC, and the PS2 emulation simply sucks ass. As in, compatibility is still shit with some games, most games HAVE TO be manually tweaked, very precisely, to get them even to work, and even then you can expect glitches.

And if you happen to have weaker than 3Ghz multicore CPU, don't even dream of running ANY of the games smoothly even at 480p.
>>
>>376842868
that's kinda my issue with silent hill games, once you realize you can kill pretty much any threat the spookyness kinda goes away. i don't know what I would do with that, though.
>>
>>376848583
he was actually referring to THAT part in the prison where you hear all sorts of creepy shit, but nothing's literally there. It's disturbing as hell at best, and brilliant psychological horror treat.
>>
>>376848750
it is, this part is fucking great. but his post can be applied to the whole series as a whole.
radio is the worst gamedesign decision in the series, prove me wrong
>>
>>376848931
>radio is the worst gamedesign decision in the series, prove me wrong
huh, that's a first.
I always considered it to be a nice atmophere riser, a la the motion detector from Aliens. What you know to be there, but don't know where or what it is, can be spooky as hell. I also loved how TS played with players with it, especially in SH1, like with those ghost babies or the entire sewers sections.
>>
>>376849424
>I always considered it to be a nice atmophere riser
it was always an atmosphere destroyer for me. The realization that there is no threat at all when radio isn't working always made me feel safer.
>I also loved how TS played with players with it, especially in SH1, like with those ghost babies or the entire sewers sections.
Fuck, I don't even remember that, it was a long time ago
>>
>>376848583
Despite the fact i consider SH1-3 one of the greatest games ever made and i'm also a huge SH fanboy, but i do agree with you. The weak enemies and lack of threat really is one of the flaws of the series.
>>
>>376849628
>Fuck, I don't even remember that, it was a long time ago
jesus son, you REALLY gotta go play SH1 again, ASAP!

The stuff I mentioned are just few of the more minor details that make it my personal favorite, even after all these years.

I think the radio idea is awesome. It adds to the lore when you ask yourself why does it produces the static sound when a creature is nearby. I think this is something they never explained.

>The realization that there is no threat at all when radio isn't working always made me feel safer.

I can agree with this.
