I enjoyed Strider 2009 and I believe it's the best game in the franchise.

The final act needed a better build up and pay off though. Maybe a boss rush. That elevator gauntlet was fun as fuck but I was hoping for one more confrontation with Solo and the sisters before facing The Grandmaster

Strider can aim the Cypher in 8 directions. A charge attack extends the attack in those 8 directions even further to take out enemies directly above or below him.

He also has an 8 way air dash, and can throw kunai in any direction and at any angle.

Can you believe it? Capcom actually revived an old IP and it was pretty good. It even got good reviews and beat out the newly released (at the time) Thi4f to be the top selling game on PSN in the month that it released. Seeing Strider get in the base roster for MvC:I makes me glad because he earned it.

I sure love clearing a stage in less than 10 seconds in a messy 2.5 environment with sprites that stand out like fuck and basic as fuck gameplay.

I think the game is pretty weak as a metroidvania, and pretty weak as an action game. The bosses in particular are terrible compared to previous Strider games.
Strider is just far better suited to linear, high difficulty, high speed action with many set-pieces, not slow world navigation, exploration, and backtracking with repetitive enemy encounters across the map and dumb shit like enemies that require specific plasma types to damage.

Those stages weren't over quickly because of speed strats or your own personal skill. Even in casual play, the stage segments ended abruptly because the layouts were bite size and you ended up getting booted into a loading screen before the next segment starts.

They broke the flow of the game way too much for me and made the game far less enjoyable.
