As of May 15th, Alan Wake will no longer be for sale because of expiring music licenses. This is the only time I've heard of a game being taken off the shelves except for Too Human.

Anyone know of any other cases where a game isnt allowed to be sold anymore?

Loads. Music industry is as Jewish as it can possibly get.

Plenty of gaymes with licensed content have been withdrawn from sale. People just don't generally notice or care because they're not usually digital-only, so you can just buy a boxed copy.

I remember buying the Deadpool gayme for more than it was worth from a key seller after they took it off Steam. Then they relicensed it and brought it back a couple of years later when the movie came out.

Alan Wake is a flawed game, but it deserves better than to be killed off by licensing claims.

It happens all the fucking time, Sega Rally Revo and Outrun 2006 got taken off Steam, same with most of Codemasters' back catalogue of racing games, I think Daytona USA is also gone. Some GTA games on Steam have had songs removed due to expiring licenses, same with Crazy Taxi. Castle of Illusion remake got taken down everywhere recently, the Deadpool game got taken down for some time while the publisher renegotiated the rights to it

>>376833145
I really liked it. The writing is a homage to Stephen King and they really nail the style, the combat is simple but satisfying, the atmosphere is well done and it has some really memorable moments. The biggest drawback is that there's very little enemy variety so combat gets old before the game is over. Still very much worth playing for me but I love tense atmospheric games and grew up reading a bunch of Stephen King so there's that.

American Nightmare is a sort of groundhog day scenario, so it's a few small levels that they make you replay over and over. It's obvious padding and even with that it isn't too long, but they add new enemy types, new weapons and an arcade mode like Mercenaries in RE, so if you liked the base game you'll most likely enjoy it too.

I'd buy the collection, it's not very expensive either way.

American Nightmare's arcade mode is pretty good. The story mode is tolerable if you don't take it seriously.

>>
>>376835692

Almost certainly. It doesn't seem as if they're removing their game from users' libraries. (Putting the game on sale for two days only to remove it from the libraries of the users who just paid for it would lead to lawsuits.)

If you got it from Humble Bundle, you should have a DRM-free copy in your Humble account, and you should download that if possible, but you should also redeem that Steam key NOW just for the convenience of having a Steam copy.
>>
>>376836186

Go fuck yourself. If they cared enough about the game to hire shills, they'd renew they license. They're letting the game die with one last 90% sale because most of the people who would ever buy the game already own it.

IIRC Prey and Fable 3 ran out of CD keys. With Fable 3 in particular they had it on sale and they somehow managed to sell more copies than there were CD keys.

Have you ever played Luigi's Mansion?

>>
>>376836192
If a game has been removed from Steam, it has to be made available to download for those who have previously purchased it.

When the licensing ran out on all the old Activision Marvel games, for example, people went on a downloading spree, before finding out theywere always available.
>>
>>376836436

There are very few "jump scares", if any. It's really NOT a scary game. The enemies are only slightly scary until you get good at killing them.

It's fun though.

You shouldn't give up on it for that reason.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the game should be easily pirate-able after they remove it from stores, because Humble Bundle released a DRM-free version.

And if the game is no longer being sold, it's basically abandonware, so you can "pirate" it with a free conscience. The music in the game isn't abandonware, but FUCK the music industry.

Fuck Microsoft too, honestly. I want to recommend buying the game while it's on sale, because I love it, but they don't deserve more money for refusing to support a game that I love. I doubt Remedy actually gets money from the game anymore, so even if you still like them after Quantum Break, it doesn't matter.

Can't go wrong for 3 USD but it is no Max Payne or even Max Payne 2 in terms of atmosphere and quality shooting.

Avoid American Nightmare---it's really redundant with a brief navel-gazing reason explanation to why you are replaying the same three tight areas repeatedly in succession. And it's more combat focused which makes it the two pronged "flash a light on a monster man until he can be shot with a traditional gun" gameplay stretch too far.

I guess so. Most of the licensed music is in end-of-episode credits.

But maybe they don't have the funds to patch it (which might involve changing cut scene audio), or maybe the music label made them sign a deal promising that the music would never be removed from the game (as an incentive to renew the licenses).

On Steam, you have an inventory. Game developers make cards, hats, in-game items, and other things that can be traded through this inventory.
You could trade a tf2 hat for a bunch of skyrim cards for example.
You can also buy games and gift/trade them in your inventory as well. You can trade a gift (game) for tf2 hats or skyrim cards for example.

Your steam library is the actual catalog of games that you added to your account. When you buy a game gift, you're basically taking a new game off the shelf and not opening it.

Its on sale now probably because of that. 5$ for EVERYTHING. Really good game in case someone hasnt played it yet. And ost was one of best parts of it too, the cool radio broadcasts.
>>
Should I buy this on Steam or GOG? $3 on each, what do.
>>
>>376846096
Buy on Humble Bundle. Get both steam and DRM free.

"Should I buy a game on Steam" is basically just a question of how much it matters to you that you are able to chat with friends without having to run yet another program in the background.

A bunch of car games (dirt/grid) games were given away for free a few months ago right before they got pulled off because expiring licenses

Reminder that Outrun on 3DS and Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed happened at all because they censored infringing parts of the Testarossa. Japs are good at censoring images.

Only if you're on the same console. If you RRoD'd (and really, who the fuck didn't?) and didn't download it again you're still shit out of luck.

I know, I tried a few weeks ago.

Stubbs was wiped because it absolutely did not run on modern systems. I still have it on Steam and there are plenty of people complaining about how it can't run.

Is American Nightmare also wroth getting?
>>
>>376848259
unless you really love the original dont bother
>>
>>376848173
Yeah I just looked at a torrent on PB for it and I saw the same complaints. What the hell is that about? Does it have something to do with the Halo engine?
>>
>>376842914

That's bullshit.
>>
>>376848259

It's not being removed from stores, so you'll have other chances to buy it. You don't need to decide now. And it will probably be 90% off again sometime soon, because people will care less about American Nightmare if they can no longer buy the original game with it.
>>
>>376848259
It's bad and very repetitive. It reuses every map multiple times. The Horde mode is the only thing kind of fun about it.

It's a shame because I thought the tone shift to goofy/army of darkness-esq comedy and Mr. Scratch were good elements.
>>
>>376848259
nah, its shit and i loved the original

I really wish I could play that game, never got the chance.

Darkspore is now literally unplayable because the game had online drm and ea closed down the servers.
>>
>>376832764
True, the last sequence where you're running towards the lake while the dark presence throws locomotives and houses and shit at you was one of the best parts I've seen in a game in years. It was far from perfect but you can tell a lot of effort was put into it.
>>
Alan Wake bros, is Quantum Break any good?

What? Last time I used SA music restoration fix and it worked, are you saying it won't now?
Really pushing me to piracy heme, I can only imagine how big of a shitstorm GTAV will be with its 300+ songs.

Only if it's under 5 bucks. Not spooky and the gameplay gets super repetitive after the first chapter, but not really that difficult especially as ou get better weapons
>>
>>376848259
it was fun but it is very short and they recycle the 3 levels and sort of change what happens in them
6/10 playable and works to extend the alan wake feeling you get after playing it through for the first time

the only reason i keep an xbox 360 around is so i can play this game when I feel like it.

this game will eventually die off but right now it's in a hospice called the xbox 360 and once that platform dies off, it's gone forever.
>>
I'm confused as to why American Nightmare has Night Springs Episodes as a bonus when the game didn't have Night Springs episodes since it itself was suppose to be an episode of Night Spring... Why would GOG include a bonus from the original game?
>>
>>376848259
Who cares? It's an extra dollar.
>>
the two DLC Episode are included with the main game, right? I'm talking about The Writer and The Signal.
>>
>>376855113
These might have been xbox exclusives. But I'm not certain.
>>
>>376855268
whoops I missed this on the steam page
>Includes Alan Wake Special Episodes “The Signal” and “The Writer”
>>
Why is this allowed? Does it happen to movies too?
>>
>>376831950
Onimusha 3 got delisted from Steam because the likeness contracts with Kaneshiro and Reno expired and they didn't see it as selling enough to justify renewing them.
>>
>>376847675
That's not true. It's tied to accounts. If you get a new system you have to update the license or whatever to your new one. You can only do it every six months.
>>
>>376855735
Usually with tv shows and movies, they just change the music but the movie lives on.

games...not sure. you have games like "Scott Pilgrim vs the Universe" where the entire score was made by one band and the second they the licensing is up, they can destroy media.
>>

>>376853852
Same, I keep my 360 because I have quite a few delisted games on it. Scott Pilgrim, MVC2, the original Ninja Turtles arcade game, the X-Men arcade game I wish companies would stop letting games get delisted. also source on pic? searching only found threads on /pol/ and /g/
>>
I bought it on Humble Bundle expecting just to get the two games, and having to get the extra stuff on Steam
but on Humble Bundle, it has EVERY bonus item for download, even the ones Steam doesn't have. Why the hell don't they list this shit on the page?
>>
>>376841438
>Anamanaguchi thinks it s their worst work.
While I don't doubt that the band might (stupidly) think that, that doesn't sound like a believable reason not to renew the license.
