That's not my point. Vidya, anime, manga, even live action TV and cinema all have major multimedia and interconnections with each other. Just as an example, Capcom has various contracts with Shueisha over Weekly Shounen Jump material.
Nintendo suing every doujin artist who made Zelda (or other of their IPs) doujins would probably hurt not only them but their partners down the line. There are a lot of toes that could be tread upon. Bear in mind that even some professional artists still produce derivative doujins (like Hiroe Rei, mangaka of Black Lagoon, makes Touhou h-doujins under the Tex-Mex moniker, for example)
