Did you do a 2nd playthrough?
It's normal to get stone the first time because you're barebones in terms of HP, magic gauge and weapons, and techniques.
When you play the second time (on hard mode), you can now use all your techniques and weapons from the start, and you're also used to the controls.
Mastering dodge offset is a must for hard and especially infinite climax.
I worked hard to get all platinum/PP on all stages in normal, to unlock Jeanne.
I got a couple platinum and gold on Hard and IC, but it requires a lot more practice.

Angel Slayer is the ultimate Bayo challenge.
It's like the angel rooms you find in the game, but you have to fight many in a row. The last battle is against 3 Jeannes (at the same time) and finally a Bayo doppleganger.
If you beat it you unlock, uh... I forgot what it was, but you unlock something cool. I think it was Zero.

No upgrading, though more techniques are useful. Those things are best cheesed. There are some crazy complicated ways of doing them legit but they're hard as fuck.
Once you've got the Durga weapons, just put on the fire version and use charge attacks. They'll put out little floating bombs that'll do a lot.

You won't pure platinum anything but you'll at least finish the alfheim.

What's the most annoying enemy to fight? For me it's these guys. They aren't difficult at all once you get on top of them, but the weird platforming physics make it an absolute bitch to do that. And if you miss you plummet off the edge and take damage, killing your score.

Thank god you only fight them like twice in the main story.

Yeah definitely. Although 2's ending still had a nice feel good tone to it that I think was intentional because Platinum wasn't sure if or when they'd be able to revisit the series.

The problem is Platinum can't help but throw in small instances of complete and utter bullshit that makes it unreasonable.

There's no reason they shouldn't have added in a "restart this fight" option like they had in Revengeance for the PC port.
There's also no reason that alfheims should count toward your trophy.

Guns are for keeping the combo meter from resetting when there are no enemies in the vicinity. If you have the pistols equipped, holding the melee buttons can accomplish the same thing. But if you're using the unlockable weapons you might not have an option for a ranged attack other than the dedicated gun button.

I agree with OP but I really disliked Bayonetta. I was ultra hyped for it before it came out but it let me down a lot. The gameplay was mediocre and the story wasn't paced well. The angels were done very poorly as well.

Their peronsalities were as flat as they could be, compared to Bayonetta they were just boring. It took away from the game and like I said it was poorly paced so I felt bored playing through the game.

And I'll reiterate, I was hyped.

Gameplay was worse than a lot of button mashers despite having near infinite depth.

How could they fuck up the balance in Bayonetta 2 so badly?

I started replaying Bayo1 after Bayo2 recently and Bayo1 just has such a more natural flow to its combat. Torture attacks in 2 are basically useless because of Umbran Climax, and some of the new enemies in 2 are just no fun allowed. They block and breaks out of combos constantly, they're relentless in the completely wrong way and basically force you to play the game extremely boring with Witch Time and quick Wicked Weaves. Compared to stuff like Grace and Glory it's just a total downgrade.

I actually think 2 does some things better than 1 which just makes this even more hurtful.
