The freedom and joyous traversal ruined other games for me.

Obvious room for improvement by adding dungeons and more towns throughout the world in sequels, now that the engine is complete.

It's a great game, dont get me wrong, but there were some things I'd like to see changed

-Make exploration more then just about shrines and korok seeds
-Change of settings, the ancient sheikah mumbo jumbo in every shrine and dungeon lost it's novelty
-Expand upon the dungeons, return to the map/compas/big key formula. I liked manupulating your surroundings to do puzzles though
-More enemy variety, really hoped we'd get a darknut or something.

This is a good one.

It's a solid game, so close to being amazing, but just not quite there. There are so many monsters they just left out. It would have been cool to seem so older zelda bosses be overworld bosses.

It might be a highly optimized game, but you have to prioritize somewhere.

If you'd said that you hate designers that prioritize game functionality over a achieving a certain framerate, I'd understand what you were talking about, I just wouldn't agree.

I dont know where they'll go from here, going back to a linear game seems hard after they pulled off open world really good. But making it open world again means they have to throw in a different gimmick to not make the games look near identical.

Perhaps go back to weapons/items that dont break, keep it open world and have old zelda styled dungeons that can be accesed in any order. Like a link between worlds did.

And they should've prioritized the frame rate. I don't tolerate them making sacrifices when I'm paying full price, plus 60 dollars in amiibo DLC and season passes. All open world exploration is great. Until you realize the world isn't worth exploring. Hyrule (BotW) is no exception. It's so vast, but it's so boring. The world has no architecture, no mystery. It's what I imagine the world of Xenoblade Chronicles looked like before somebody sat down and wrote an original storyline with a world to accompany it.

So when you're done climbing for a couple of minutes to the tallest peak, or doing a few laps around Death Mountain, laughing yourself to death because the scale of the largely reused setpieces is ironically a bullet to the foot, you can move on to Shrines and Sidequests, maybe finding a few dozen Koroks along the way.

>Shrines/Puzzles
Shrines don't have lore dumps, 100/120 of them are either 2 minutes long or are puzzle-less. The reward is generally worthless because cooking is unbalanced and breaks any necessity to heart pieces or the stamina bar. The first one looked interesting, but by the time I finished the fourth mandatory Shrine, my eyes strained from the blue light in a manner similar to Lost Izalith. I'm glad the game has puzzles, but they're just more Zelda puzzles. They're just standard Zelda puzzles, despite the long-delayed addition of physics. Very few make you skip a beat, and they aren't satisfying to figure out, assuming the title of the fucking shrine doesn't tell you the solution.

Recycled plotline. Not much else to say. Nothing to get invested in, no mystery, no characters.

Serviceable, despite it ironically being almost completely optional. I guess if you're not going to even try and update or overhaul your combat, you may as well just make every enemy in the game avoidable.

>Atmosphere/Hyrule
Calamity is extremely ambiguous and seems to have only really occurred in 2 or 3 specific areas, yet Hyrule is extremely desolate with Goron "City" having a population of approximately 15 Gorons. Nobody in Hyrule seems afraid of the Calamity that occured, the impending Calamity, or the Calamity right outside their doorstep, and the Calamity doesn't seem to care either. Calamity isn't a character, and doesn't seem to do anything. Monsters don't do anything, story or gameplay wise. Guardians don't do anything. The Divine Beasts don't even do anything, and even when they do something as serious as cut off the main export of a whole baker's dozen gorons, the gorons just stand there grinning like comedic relief from a game with an issue picking a tone, or doing any of them right.

>Dungeons
Worst in the franchise. Aesthetically identical, featuring the same puzzle gimmick. Shoot eyeballs, rotate chassis, shoot the "boss" with 3 of the 300 elemental arrows the game shoves in your backpack against your will. 10 minutes, in and out. 5 in the case of the bird. Not to mention that the Divine Beasts feature a pit of death, so they are separate from the game world.

Call me crazy but I was expecting the Divine Beasts to be grand, enemy strongholds that actually did something in the story and during gameplay. I figured you'd be able to get some items (hookshot, maybe) or stamina and storm it, fending off dozens of enemies inside, venturing through a mechanized wonder of engineering never seen in the universe before.

>Villages
They're small. Like really small. I pretty much covered this in the Atmosphere section, but it is notable. When your apocalyptic plot device is incredibly vague, and appears to not have affected much aside from Castle Town (which in itself appears to have been the size of a prison yard), The Hyrule Garrison, and Fort Hateno, it's hard to believe that Hyrule is as unpopulated as it is. Did everybody die in an all out war? Why can't we witness it, or play it? Why is nobody in Hyrule mounting a defense? Then again, what would they be defending against? Ganon's apparently rampant forces aren't doing anything. They aren't pillaging or burning, they're just waiting in their little MMO trash mobs. Villages/The entire game have no worthwhile characters, even the key players like the Chieftains of the villages, or the force ghosts of the Champions, are horribly generic.

To reiterate though; The architecture of the villages themselves is very lacking. The only one that actually made me stop and look back at it for a minute was Zora's Domain, until I realized it's Peter Jackson's interpretation of Lothlorien from the Lord of the Rings trilogy and there still isn't anything to do in it, apart from look at it.

This is why people say the world feels dead; Because nothing happens. Ever. Story or gameplay-wise, It's just a limp fish, waiting for (You) to poke it, and once you do you get pretty much exactly what you should have been expecting.
