Things like that get cheaper as time goes on because you don't have to pay engineers to design/improve it anymore. Right now, Nintendo needs to charge $90 so they can turn a profit from this because they probably invested a shitload of man-hours into the Switch.

Xbone Elite controllers are actually worth it though, it has stainless steel parts and customisable paddles and no chinisium grade polycarbs that you can find on the switch's pro controller's shell, it also has two quick access sensitivity and button map profiles. The price is a bit inflated but it is totally justified when you compare to similar product from the third party OEMs

Former Best Buy employee here. The price isn't just a bit inflated. Employee discount is 5% above the cost of any item that isn't price controlled by that manufacturer.

On release, those things aren't price controlled and they were available for sale to employees for 53USD. The normal controllers are for sale for 46USD.

There was a 7dollar difference in cost of production, purchasing a far smaller order and getting them to the sales floor.
