>>
>>376820236
I don't think any of those is unimportant. I played the game up til the point where you're almost captured by the Kett, but manage to escape by flying through the dark energy bullshit cloud. That's pretty much right after the first main mission of the game. And the animations, the bugs, and the writing are the three reasons why I dropped it.

The animation issues are a well-documented problem, but what the webms usually don't show is that it's not just a couple of big fuckups. It's a couple of big fuckups compounded by a million little fuckups. For example, one of the things that annoyed the crap out of me is that characters' hands are almost never animated in cutscenes, making everyone look like they've got plastic prosthetics.

The bugs are mostly harmless, until they're suddenly not. There's a lot of animation and AI glitches, NPCs popping through the floor, voices suddenly disappearing, and more minor stuff that's mildly annoying but never serious. And then you've got the parts where you've just finished watching a cutscene and the game doesn't come back. It's just the UI over a black screen and none of your buttons work anymore, which is fucking infuriating.

I'm not usually a guy who cares a lot about the writing, but it's still annoying as fuck how almost everything about the story has big holes into it or simply doesn't make sense. Things happen because they're convenient to the plot, not because they make any kind of internal sense. And that's not even bringing up the characters. I'd actually argue that most of them are pretty ok (apart from Peebee) personality-wise, but they way they're written into the story is mostly bullshit. Instead of letting a character's personality naturally show through their dialogue, it feels like the other way around: The dialogue's main purpose is to showcase the character's personality. It also doesn't help that the MC's constant wisecracking is grating as fuck.
>>
>>376821234
Hence I said ME1. The odd thing about the thermal clips is that they could have been incorporated nicely but they just refused to do so. Just make the damned thing an optional way to instantly cool down your weapon instead of being pseudo ammo. Shit was fucking retarded the way they implemented it.

Andromeda has both, for some reason.

Most guns have the clip system by default, but you can upgrade them to make them switch back to the original overheating system.
>>
>>376821570
It only makes sense if you can have both at the same time or only the original overheating system which you can then upgrade to be able to use thermal clips to instantly cool them down in a bind. How does Andromeda handle this?
>>
>>376821234
To be honest, I started a new playthrough of mass effect 1 some time ago, and it really is a pain not being able to shoot continuously. The larger geth units have extremely powerful shields and they recover fully while I wait for my shitty gun to cool down.

The main thing that makes all of this so frustrating is that underneath all the bullshit is the potential for a great game. I understand all the fans that got buttmad because it's not Shepard vs the Reapers again, but frankly those fans are retards. The original trilogy is done, and tacking a new chapter on would be awful. Instead, Bioware took the setting and put it into a new environment with a new cast. This not only made things feel less stale, but also added elements of exploration and survival to the game which, if the game had actually been good, would have been a great asset. But of course, exploration is completely ruined by the fact that there are arbitrary "radiation zones" fucking everywhere that kill you in seconds, and more infuriatingly there are actual walls (not even invisible ones, but big glowing blue ones) blocking off the parts you're allowed to explore and blaring "RETURN TO MISSION ZONE" if you try to go past them. You just can't make garbage like this up, it's like a parody of how to not make an open world game.

This also shows in the gameplay. We've all come to grips a long time ago with the fact that Mass Effect is an action game, not an RPG. As an action game, it's the best Mass Effect yet. Shooting feels more satisfying than ever and simple additions like the jump pack make both exploring and fighting more fun and dynamic. The fact that it's so close to actually being good makes it all the more infuriating that it's the RPG elements that let the game down in this, with leveling up being dull as fuck and especially for your companions entirely brainless. Granted, that was never really ME's strength, but still. Most of the menus are designed by a literal retard who, if there is a God and He is benevolent, will never work in the games industry ever again. I mean I seriously cannot believe that someone designed the quest menu or the crafting menu and went "yes, this is exactly what I want it to be."

Honestly I feel that Andromeda is a huge step backwards in terms of power and gunplay. Only the sniper felt any good to use and the reast of the weapons may as well be pea shooters.
ME3 pretty much had the ideal gameplay n terms of shooting and powers.

That was really when I realized what kind of writing we're working with here after your father who was, admittedly, the best written character in the game so, of course, Ryders have daddy issues with the guy. Not a single goddamn part of her introduction works or flows well together.
>>
>>376823153
I kinda agree with this, but that's mostly because most weapons have shit for damage which is a balancing issue and not really a gameplay issue IMO. I played as a tech guy with a pistol and a sniper, and for both weapons I went for the types that are slow but have big damage, this made the gunplay feel pretty satisfying (for a ME game anyway) especially whith headshots.

Jumping into a combat situation and activating hover mode while popping Kett heads in mid-air was more fun than any combat situation in previous ME games.
>>
>>376822972
>Did Andromeda have saved loadouts for different ability specs?

Yes. Thing is, you're still spreading the same amount of experience points around so you're simply not being as efficient as you could be if you dip into many abilities in order to mix and match loadouts. I also love how hidden respect console is and people I talked to about the game didn't even realize function was in the game.
>>

Is there even an option to tell her to fuck off with that sudden hostility in the game? It'll be a long time before I become desperate enough to play this hunk a junk. In fact, I haven't seen examples of a renegade Ryder at all.

>>
>>376823781
>Removal of Paragon/Renegade just means you now choose the TONE of what you're saying.
Not that I think Andromeda's writing is any good, but Paragon/Renegade didn't really affect anything but tone and morality score in the original games except for heavily flagged decision making points.

There is no renegade.

There are like 12 interrupts in the entire game and action on like, three of them have people call Ryder impulsive. That is as close as you get to renegade.
When peebee tackles you to the ground I figured the interrupt would throw her off me and put a gun to her head. Instead it's a "get off me" and some sexually implicit line.

Also, no matter how you try to play them Ryder will always come off as kind of childish. Nobody takes them seriously and they seem to be quite scientifically impaired. I suppose it's intentional but holy shit could they at least read.

>Also, no matter how you try to play them Ryder will always come off as kind of childish. Nobody takes them seriously and they seem to be quite scientifically impaired. I suppose it's intentional but holy shit could they at least read.
It's definitely intentional. I just think this is Bioware's way to make Ryder look like more of a "fun" guy than the mostly serious Shepard. Which also explains all the one-liners and lame attempts at humor.

It's just that Bioware's writers are notoriously awful, so their attempts at making a character more fun end up making them childish and annoying.

First of all, why would space gypsies be allowed on the Andromeda Initiative when they fucked up a planet and created the Geth?
Second of all, fuck you for wanting to create a character in an RPG.

They make mention at several points that there was a Quarian ship that was delayed for reasons I can't remember. The Quarians were also supposed to bring the other "missing" races like the Hanar and the Volus on their ship.
>>
>>376826428
>First of all, why would space gypsies be allowed on the Andromeda Initiative

Because they were? they're a part of the ark carrying Hanar and Drell and besides that if you're exploring a new galaxy it would be a good idea to bring along the people that can build ships and weapons out of toasters and gum.

Anon, let's not kid ourselves with this.
The entire cast is basically an inversion of the ME1 crew.
In ME1 your Biotic was Kaiden, cool headed and reserved, trained in the use of his above-average powered biotics by an alien. Cora is the same story BUT she's a chick and her biotics give her super PMS, and is nowhere near as cool headed as Kaiden was.
Liam is your soldier and is generally unafraid of the new. In Crisis Response back on Earth he has a good grasp of many a situation even if he wears his heart on his sleeve a bit, he also advocates diplomacy over force without any negative feelings towards new species. More or less the exact opposite of Ashley, she was emotionally driven sure, but she didn't exactly like most aliens.
So-on and so-forth.

I hadn't thought about it like that, but now that you mention it, it makes a lot of sense.

A lot of the characters feel like they took a ME1 character and then went "ok how can we make them different from the original?" instead of making actual original characters to begin with.
>>
The worst part about the game for me were the companions. In Mass Effect I'll admit. The reason why I saw the series to its end and the reason why I'll still say baring the ending 3 was great is because. Much to my shame. I got so attached to the characters. The companions in Andromeda were boring and just plain, not to mention Ryder was shit. I felt like nothing I did made my Ryder different. He always comes off as an inexperienced snarky fuck boy and no one respects him. It's played for laughs but in reality is indicative of poor writing.

I can understand that tone being kept for the beginning. But once you make headway, maybe around the time of getting the alliance going then your Ryder should start being more assertive and in command. People should respect them more.

The only characters in andromeda that I liked were Liam and that's not saying much. He has pretty much no personality but he's at least a good guy. Drake is also ok but they tried to hard to make him like Wrex.
>>
>>376818056
A buddy and I were talking about this earlier today. we were both huge ME fans eve at ME2.

I told him this was clearly a wait and see situation originally and that now I would be waiting for a $5 discount bin buy. He pre-ordered and felt like an idiot.

He did say at least they patched the graphics and that's when I told him that I knew it was a game that can't be redeemed. The people defending it literally only have the point to argue that they patched some impossibly bad graphics, they aren't saying "who cares about the graphics the gameplay is fun" or "the story is deep, compelling, interesting, fun" the ONLY point for it is they patched their massive graphics errors.

Okay I think I understand what happened here.

Originally someone had an idea for how they wanted this gun holding shot framed; however the weapon that was being used was just a bit too long to make the shot work as they had hoped, so instead of repositioning a camera to work with the items given in that scene, someone decided it would be quicker and easier to just slice part of the weapon off that was in front of the Asari's face, in this scenario though because of the initial fuck up of having the gun the wrong way around, they instead lopped off the front of the gun.

Skip ahead to the recent updates and the same team is now told that they need to turn this gun around, so they do so. The shot still works because the gun is still a fraction shorter than the normal weapon and the thing gets the OK and they send it out in the next patch without anyone calling it out.

Its a whole series of fuck ups that lead to this mistake, its actually quite astounding to think how little QA was put into it, or even just anyone on board at Bioware who really cared about the history and technology within the world they created. I can see why Mass Effect fans were disappointed but they really must have known what they were getting themselves into.

I guess I can appreciate that Ryder's meant to be someone in over their head rather than be another experienced veteran.

But I really miss Shepard and the distinct options to be compassionate, pragmatic, or a genocidal asshat.

>I guess I can appreciate that Ryder's meant to be someone in over their head rather than be another experienced veteran.
Yeah but there is only so much that could be allowed. Like, sure you don't have a lot of time but fucking hell some on-the-job training from Cora who should have the relevant training wouldn't have been hard to write in.
Being in over your head isn't an excuse to say "oh, I guess we need to give you all this shit to do whatever you want with because" because Ryder would be subject to a fuck-ton of training and tests.
At the very least they'd be given a list of protocol and a briefing of exactly what their job is because you're really not told the ins and outs of it.
Even dismissing how everybody dismisses you as a child.

Shepard will always hold a place in my heart for being a professional. Any personality or disposition, Shepard was always a professional.
