How was this not God's gift to gaming? what the fuck happened? why did it crash and burn?
>>
>>376804040
everything was retarded, from start to finish, from consumers to executives.
>>
A woman made it.
>>
Because it's just an Android emulator. No-one wants to play phone games on their TV.
>>
>exhaust fan on the bottom of the console
>shitty cheap plastic construction like the stuff you buy at weekend markets
>weaker than an android phone
>people expecting to play fallout and AAA games on it
>>
People were expecting it to run Assassin's Creed and Crysis.
>>
controller sucked
>>
>>376804189
And by "people" you mean you. No one with a brain expected to run Crysis on an android device.
>>
why the fuck was there any hype for this?
it seemed like complete shit from the start
also
>kickstarter
>ever good
>>
>>376804154
So just like the Switch
>>
>>376804298
stop basing all your opinions on what /v/ tells you. there's been plenty of great kickstarter projects.
>>
>>376804295
By "people" I'm pretty sure he meant "people" you stupid faggot.

Whoever came up with this idea is brain damaged. On one side you have MS, Sony and Nintendo. On the other cellphones. This thing should have stayed in the middle, which is something fucking no one wants to investe on. its bombing serves the idiots who gave them money right.
>>
>>376804421
Most of them fail miserably...
Do you know how many YouTubers spend their time shit talking kick-starter items as a series? Because I can name at least 3, maybe 4.

>Quad-core 1.7 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore
>Nvidia GeForce ULP @ 520 MHz (12.48 GFLOPS)
>1 GB RAM
How the fuck people fell for this? Like a couple days after the Kickstarter was announced I knew it was total bullshit from the start.
>>
>>376804040
>Make a phone that isn't portable
>Make it only play shitty mobile games, but this time on your TV
The Switch got this right. People buying dedicated devices don't want phone games on console, they want console games in their pocket.
Basically, look at everything good about the way Nintendo's executing the Switch so far because they're more or less all the same areas that the Ouya failed in.

but my sides were in orbit for the booth in the e3 parking lot thing

What´s the stupid physics game with the frog again? That was the only game that looked mildly interesting to me
>>
>>376805549
This! Funny how a thing that isn't meant for gaming is far more successful than a dedicated game system. I love my Pi 3. Gotten really into the SNES library like never before. And being able to use the WiiU Pro Controller is a huge plus too.
>>
>>376805750
>Quad-core 1.7 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore
>Quad-core 1.7 GHz
>ARM
Your underestimating a typical consumer's mindset. They probably thought Quad-core 1.7 Ghz ARM is somehow equivalent to its quad core desktop counterpart. also
>Nvidia GeForce ULP
>>
>>376804040
This video gives a decent summary on the matter:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTqhyHuKVKA
>>
>>376804040
It had two things to offer Emulation and Android games.

Emulation can be done well and on the cheap with a Pi and other devices so not much point there.

Android games have potential its not a bad platform, but microtransactions rule the land there so that wasn't happening. No devs trying to make the difference as its a flooded market of freemium. And the few that aren't usually benefit form touch/motion which it didn't have.

I will give it credit. It understood a console is a cheap device with unique attributes to offer for gaming as oppose to a shit PC.

It was supposed to be a sort of "haven" for small indie games (think le retro pixels shit on steam), and kinda big official titles. It had its own Minecraft and Final Fantasy 3 port. But the indie projects never showed up... everything stayed on damn steam or remained Sourceforge abortions.
>>
>>376806773
What'd he do, run over your dog?
>>
>>376804040
It came out close to 100 bux, even back then a used PS3 or Wii was close to that price and those unceremoniously CRUSH the ouya. If all else fails, you can just play on your damned phone.

Why the fuck did ANYONE ever buy into this and think it was some great, innovative idea? From the fucking start it was "play shitty freemium android games on your TV" and that's how it was marketed, why did fucking retards start thinking it could run Skyrim?
>>
>>376805085
it's a mod, just install it
>>
>>376806310
yeah I agree. Most consumers think that
more cores = better
more storage = faster
>>
>>376807051
It's because it was the first somewhat big project at the time when kickstarter was gaining momentum. All the fat millions were entirely due to KS becoming hip, Ouya just happened to come out at the right time.
>>
>>376804040
Android based system that didn't know TV boxes would take off.

The problems were as follows

1) Hardware would become obsolete in a year or so given ARM's accelerated development in the late 2000s/2010s.

2) Emulators were primitive at the time and are still works in progress

3) Your PC, an NUC or a Raspberry Pi (or RetroPie in hindsight) would be a better investment for emulation support.
>>
Wheres the Ouya devkit anon?
>>
>>376807162
>more storage = faster

Umm...what?
>>
>>376807051
I think people saw it as a sort of "underdog" against the big 3. Also it was THE first successful 7-figure kickstarter. But again, the games and dev support just weren't there.

It's a stupid little android console that runs phone games
