Steam sales have been shit since long before Steam refunds were a thing.
>>
>always bought tons of games every single sale before refunds were introduced
>didn't buy a single one during the Christmas sales

With community votes, daily deals and flash sales gone, the magic and fun has also disappeared from Steam sales. The discounts are never anything to write home about and with the overabundance of grey market/third party key reseller sites these days, it's pretty much a Steam sale all year 'round. Steam is selling Tekken 7 for €60 off their store, but I'm already buying it for €27 at release from a third party site.

I can't wait for a 50% discount at most for games that were 80% off in the past, no daily deals, a shit meme game on the front page and no sale of the games that I actually want.

>I already bought the only other games I'm interested in

Steam sales are really pointless since they stopped having 80%+ off. The most anything goes for that isn't shovelware trash is 75%, and only if the game is 5 years old or tanked hard and is still overpriced

That's not why, it's because of region-based pricing. Poor countries get games for less, so they're not allowed to sell their games to 1st world countries at a lower price than the steam store itself. The only option are Valve sells the game at the same price everywhere, making it impossible for poor countries like china to buy games, or region lock releases.
>>
>>376801170

I got The Witcher from 2013 sale and I finished it last year. I bought Witcher 2 last winter sale and now I'm planning to play it before the next summer sale.
>>
Why would I be

I already have the games I'm interested one that are likely to get a significant discount. Interesting events and flash sales are dead. There's nothing to get excited over left, sales now are a cashgrab for old games people aren't buying anymore otherwise.
>>
>>376798518
I've got enough fucking games to last me for the next 2-3 years if I voraciously destroy my way through them.

Unless there's some crazy fantastical low prices on games I really want - Dead Space 2, Way of the Samurai 3, maybe Silver Case, God Eater - I really don't see myself buying anything.

And even then, they're not that high as-is, I'd have no problem buying them one at a time after I finish the last game.

Except for God Eater, anyway, that shits still $50.

What's the best way to charge a steam wallet? I know you can get ~15% extra by abusing marketplace.tf keys, but are other economies more profitable?
>>
>>376802756
But that's his point?? Me, someone from a poor country wants to legitimately gift a game to a friend from say, the US for his birthday. I can't because other burgers were abusing the regional pricing system to buy cheap in bulk to resell later.
>>
There was a sweet spot for a while where publishers didn't know how to price for digital sales and treated the Steam sale like they were trying to clear out physical stock. Steam sales have been crap ever since publishers realised people will buy games during the sale purely for the meme of buying a bunch of games during the steam sale and they don't have to go very low to get people buying. Valve gamifying the act of purchasing didn't help, but mostly it was the normies who saw the memes and thought they were obligated to buy a bunch of shit who ruined it for everyone whom genuinely wanted to find a few good deals on games they actually wanted and would actually play.
>>
fuck steam now, they ruined giveaways

>>376805046
No, that was the convenient excuse. Refunds wouldn't really lose them anything, people wait for the end of the sale anyways, and you can refund games that go on a regular sale after you bought them too, flash sales aren't different.

It's key resellers, but of course they won't say that, so dumbasses don't learn about them. As of now, your lowest sales price is your price forever. Short, deep discounts would fuck you for years.
>>
>>376805046
Wrong. Everyone ever only waited for flash sales before buying anything or bought their games on the last day of sales.
They wanted people to get on buying any day instead of waiting like before.

Key resellers sell Keys, you can't even sell a Key from a steam store purchase.
Thus you're still dead wrong.
>>
>daily deals lasted 48 hours
>flash sales a few times a day
>ridiculous discounts on everything
>games, trading cards, badges, achievements all encouraged further purchases

Man, remember when steam sales were good?

Huge discount + limited time offer = impulse buying == huge sales

Now they're so fucking worthless I barely bother picking anything up because its never discounted enough to warrant buying it. Wow, your game is 50% off but its still over 20 bong? Go fuck yourself.
>>

>>
>>376805629

So far you could, gift to email. They're trying to get rid of that. Guess why.
>>
>sorry Steamdrones, because of our new refund policy and the fact that our Customer Service is horrible and hugely understaffed despite the gorillions we make, we can't have super deep discounts anymore because of the flood of refund requests we'd receive :(
Whether this is the actual reason or it's because of Steam gift hoarding or just greedy Valve/publishers since Steam has such a stranglehold on the market, it's bullshit.
At the very least now that gift hoarding is dead, we get to find out if that was the reason for shit sales or not. The timing of it being killed is suspiciously close to the summer sale.

>>376805342
>yet another dumbass who doesn't know how keys work

Your rethoric has a flaw. Years ago, you could find new releases (or even preorders) with discounts ranging from 33 to 50%. I repeat, preorders at two thirds of its final price or half off. These last years, it's only 5-15% off. Pure shit

You're more likely to be underage, cunt.

The sales haven't gotten more expensive (even when not taking inflation into account). Those "90%" you kept seeing? They were being sold at full price before.
Then they reduced the base price, so the percentage reduction decreased.

How fucking retarded do you have to be to not have understood this?

Coal Event was fucking amazing. I got several free games out of it since I didn't try to hoard my coal for the last day. Because they've reduced the base price of the game as years have gone on. And for the older titles they haven't stuck to 50%, it's at 67%.
In 2016 the lowest price shifted up $0.80, first real "price increase" in over three years, it doesn't even follow inflation.

If you're going to bitch about that, you're probably Jewish.

The whole thing is irrelevant because the flash sales all returned on the last day anything.

>You're retarded. The sales always had 8 hours in the spotlight and then another 8 hours below it as a "Don't miss it!" deal.

Yeah, in the final sales before they changed the system to remove flash/daily sales. Before that you could easily miss a flash sale.
Same thing happened with the daily sales in the past, they were only up for 24h then they were gone.
Even with a 16h timer in the past, you could miss it (especially if you had a life).

There is no contesting that the current system is better and friendlier to consumers. People don't have to religiously check the Steam front page multiple times a day, and publishers/developers make more revenue as people are more likely to buy games.

The old system might be "fun" if you're a NEET with no social life.

Why are you using an image that hasn't been relevant for years?

Steam sales are dogshit now. Unless you want to waste time on whatever shitty game they implement with essentially no benefit the summer sale is no different than the rest of the year.

They don't even let you sell the worthless cards unless you buy something recently.

Steam didn't create anything. There is a lot of people who pirate because they don't hace enough money to buy games. There id also people who will pirate nonetheless, but put the game at the right price, and they will dip.

It's not not wanting to support developers. It's not being able to buy anything on the first place.

I have never bought a game at more than 50% of its price, even when I was full console peasant and I'm sure there are many other people like that.

If you want to play early at release date, you still have to pay full price on PC unless you pirate. What you are actually saying is that PC player have more patience and can wait to get a good deal, sketchy third-party sites notwithstanding.

If publishers stopped their bullshit with season passes, overpriced DLCs, bad optimization, games being completely different from trailers/teasers, maybe people would buy games at launch instead of doing the only logical thing which is to wait for a GOTY version to come out.

100% this. If I buy a game at launch I'm pretty much accepting that I'll have to pay sometimes the price of the game over again for a season pass. It has to be something I REALLY want to enjoy, because fucking every game from every genre does it now. If I'm even the least but unsure that I'm going to have a blast playing the game then it's far, FAR better to wait for GOTY/definitive edition/whatever the fuck else the devs want to call it. Season passes, preorder bonuses and slicing parts off of games to sell back to you later needs to stop, because it's turning the industry into a goddamn shitshow. Everyone is either a cow who'll buy the game+season pass+loot boxes (because every game needs to have those now, too), or patient enough to know that they can just wait <1 year and get the game for cheaper and with everything included, there's not much middleground.

Nobody has to give refunds on digital products unless the product itself is broken. Hence GoG not having an unconditional refund policy even though they are in the EU.

It isn't really enforced, but technically they could always just send your ass to jail if they wanted.

And with the new law that basically requires all providers to store every consumer's internet traffic up to year, prices are going to skyrocket and everything is quickly going to the trash. Here was hoping that they introduced this retarded law just to do stealth push of another law, but it doesn't seem like it.
