None of the AC games make sense after the first one. The first one was designed with the historical Hashashin vs Templar conflict in mind, so it was appropriate to the period (and worked well). Everything after just didn't make sense, Ubisoft appropriated the Hashashin and Templars, turning them from a period piece to a specially illuminate group that existed through all time in order to secure a franchise of AC games set in any period.
