Do the PS4/Switch versions of PPT have alternate puyos/tetrominos not available in other versions? I'm playing the 3DS version and don't have the tetris pieces that look like puyos or puyos that look like tetris pieces in the shop at all.

I think the main issue I have with tetris vs Puyo, and I know everyone says this, is garbage.
In a Puyo vs Puyo match, if you toss a 3-chain their way, you can reasonably expect to have a good chunk of time while they clear that garbage to continue setting up.
But with tetris, even if you send a nice hellfire, it doesn't really stop them from flooding you with garbage, which you then have to take time to clean up while they keep going.
It's pretty fucked tbqhfds

Tetris having a huge advantage on the higher levels doesn't mean you can't ever win against it anon, the very fact that they are roughly 50:50 on wins should tell you everything. Amemiya is a literal who when it comes to Tetris while mfmf is considered a Puyo God in Japan.
If they were equally skilled Tetris would have won every single one of their matches, and by quite a bit too. PvT just isn't worth playing in a competitive sense, stick to Swap, PvP/TvT, or even Fusion.

That they are completely and evenly matched? Just because he's a "literally who" doesn't mean he isn't at the same skill level. Even if they aren't at the same skill level, that means the ranking are skewed in such a way that a not as skilled player can still face a higher skilled player and still have a chance due to a Tetris advantage. The matches are still fair, with an equal percentage of each person winning. This discrepancy only matters at the highest of high ranks where it is literally only Tetris players, and I don't see why this would make you butthurt if it didn't apply to you.

Can you still have fun like that? Sure. But saying it's a fair match up is the single most retarded thing I've read in these threads.
It's also absolutely not just the case at absolutely highest skill levels, Tetris has a huge and obvious advantage at any level. It's just that you are more likely to fight people that are worse than you at the lower ranks.

They are holding a PPT tournament I was going to sign up for at AnimeEVO this year, but since the idiot of an organizer doesn't know shit about these games and is doing Vs since he's worried about not having enough sign ups if they did Swap mode and "forced" people to play Puyo I probably won't even bother. I can hold my own in Puyo fairly well, I'm not a god or particularly amazing or anything, but I still hover around 7-8k Rating in Puzzle League, but if the majority of people are just going to play Tetris there is zero point in even trying.
