Crash 1-CTR: didn't play yet, fite me

Jak 1: bit boring and empty, but great, + worldbuilding
Jak II: flawed and rough in places, but great, like the story (regardless of how many animus b4 had similar plots)
Jak III (greatest hits): very polished, but a bit rushed plot held together with tape at times, and at times too easy
Jak X (greatest hits): a PERFECT racing game, with a decent plot and lots of replay value

Uncharted games: didn't play, never will

Last of Us games: didn't play, never will

Played tlou not too long ago, and it was certainly a lot better than /v/ lead me to believe. It suffers from a bit of pacing issues in the exploration phases and the AI could be somewhat inconsistent, but generally very solid.

I dunno, probably because in order to legitimize itself as a "proper" medium, the video game industry will latch on to anything that seems just a bit deeper than your average vidya. Hence why you every now and then see people cum buckets and stories that are at best 6 or 7 out of 10s in a normal context, which then undoubtedly inflates the devs' ego even more.
>>
>>376793092
Personally I enjoyed both systems a lot, and generally enjoyed most of the platformers both got.

I'd agree. I would also mention that even before that, their best game (CTR) was great, but everything else was "just" good. Crash 1 is a legitimately bad game.
>>
>>376793187
I believe being overly linear undermines 3D platforming, especially when it sacrifices verticality like Crash did. Options in movement, depth perception and navigation are what sets it apart from 2D.
>>
>>376793353

Daxter on PSP wasn't made by Naughty Dog
>>
>>376792570
>Explain the appeal of 3D platforming in a corridor to me.

offers gradual challenge based on the player's skill in getting through the level
its also not too hard for casual players to progress through the game
offers optional challenges for those players who wish to challenge themselves

the overall difference between 3D Open World Platformers and 3D Corridor Platformers is the Open World are geared towards finding and collecting items hidden around the level (not very challenging) and Corridor is actual progression through a level
>>
>>376793392
I disagree. The whole point of 3D platforming is to move and platform in a 3D space. 3D Platformers don't have to have an exploration focus to be 3D platformers. Crash did what was needed to not be a 2D platformer. And even if that weren't the case, that doesn't change the fact the games themselves are still competently made.
>>
>>376793092
Stop thinking with your butt, and start noticing the obvious:

>posters butthurt over ND's realistic direction now hate everything they've done
>>
>>376791286
>the game is not fun
subjective
>story is standard zombie shit
it has better character development and writing than every single other zombie story. that's why it was praised. in the end, it wasn't about curing the world or not, it was a story about joel and ellie.
>>

>>376793598

>>
>>376793598

Uncharted, God Of War etc. excel in their presentation, but the substance is lacking.

I like the last of us as much as anyone but god damnit if Insomiac can make a PS4 ratchet game you guys can do the same
>>
>>376794086
And that leads to its level design often feeling sorta uninspired.
>>
>>376788053
I like Uncharted but I really don't understand the hype behind TLoU

The shooting is dull, the stealth is tacked-on, the enemy variety blows, and the AI is mediocre

It's like RE4 if you took out everything that made it fun
>>
>>376794106
the thing is, while I too also am dying for a new Jak game, ND isnt gunna just make a new game, they want the game to be good, and if they havent come up with any ideas on a good Jak 4 game, they arent going to make it

Ratchet was also very loose in its story, where Jak (more Jak 2 and 3) were more centered on its story
thats why we only have 3 main Jak games (fuck off Last Frontier) and clost to 15 Ratchet games, Jak 1,2 and 3 follow 1 progressive story from 1 game to the next, where each Ratchet game has a different story with few having some connecting themes
>>
>>376794281
It's exactly the opposite. Uncharted shooting is barebones, thoughtless.
It's pretty pretty clear that you played TLoU on easy or normal.
>>
>>376793598
I think you're interpreting exploration in a Banjo kinda way. Having a proper setting, a place that works in portraying a wide space that's not necessarily a big field, not just a strip of level design, that also spreads into different playable directions goes a long way in setting up a 3D environment. When you go full sharia law over platforming basics, you end up with something like 3D World, which just trashed most of the core aspects of 3D Mario in favor of a 2D-fied bunch of floating blocks and platforms in a void with an isometric camera.

Crash isn't Mario, or Banjo, or any other series. The series can afford to handle 3D Platforming in a way it deems would work best for it, and seeing how well received it was, it worked out for it. Also levels in Crash aren't floating blocks or platforms for the most part. They're all clearly grounded on whatever theme/aesthetic they are for all 3 games generally for each level.

I remember reading something similar a while back, something about how they did want to make a new Jak game they didn't want to halfass it but they've gotten a little sucked into how well uncharted and TLOU has been doing so that's probably adding to them not returning to Jak

They got as far as concept art (just one example here) then they stopped

You got a point about enemy variety (not that's it too bad), but it's certainly better than in Uncharted. I also prefer tlou since the resource management is more interesting, it doesn't have any stupid ass climbing sections and it doesn't have Nathan Drake in it.

I don't really think it does, it's incredibly easy to rack up stealth kills even on Grounded, the AI is not very good at dealing with it effectively

>>376794667
True, I just mentioned 3D World as a really bad case of that logic. The success of Crash isn't all that relevant being the only console mascot at the time, but yeah, I see where you're coming from. Like I said, I just don't understand a 3D platformer not sticking to its strengths and sticking so closely to 2D fundamentals. It feels the collectathon craze scarred this genre so badly that people dismiss basic 3D concepts because of it. Or maybe most people just skimmed through the peak of the genre in a superficial way and figured everything they didn't touch was merely fluff. Either way, it's a pity.

...no, I'm pretty sure I'm not. I really liked the gameplay, the weapon selection was nice and the way they touched up some of the levels was really cool.

Whether or not they had any chemistry is neither here nor there, I wasn't really playing for the story. And humor in R&C has always been hit or miss.

Well, if you play a game that is RELATIVELY story based, and ignore the story...... and the music......... I guess it is fun.

I just don't like buying food that is partly rotten, to cut out the rotten parts and only eat the half that is still good.
>>
>>376795972
I can agree about the music, they should have brought Bergeaud back. But I don't think R&C is a very story-centric game, even if we're talking about the remake.
>>
>>376796078
Not centric, but the story is important. Ratchet travels the galaxy because he was stuck on one planet forever, and wants to see the world. OR wants to save the galaxy, apparently having been born a pure heroic hero.
>>
>>376796684

It isn't. It's incredibly easy to outsmart, especially if you're being stealthy. The melee guys are downright suicidal at times.
>>
>>376803268
Watch the video that is not E3. And regardless you can have moments like E3 anyway. If you watch some comparisons between the final game and E3 you can see that the enemies still act very dynamicly in situations.
>>376803282
>Easy to outsmart
Outsmart how exactly?
>especially if you're being stealthy
Isn't that the intent? Besides they will still scower the area for you effectively. You can't just stand one place and leave the joystick there you will be found. Trust me i have tested it.
>The melee guys are downright suicidal at times
This is true. But it is nothing compared to when you engage a pack of dudes and they flank properly and hide from you and make sure to pop up differently to avoid getting picked off.
>>
>>376803547
>Besides they will still scower the area for you effectively. You can't just stand one place and leave the joystick there you will be found. Trust me i have tested it.

That hasn't been my experience at all. There's been loads of times when I've stealth-killed a bunch of guys while hiding at the same spot. On the highest difficulty too. Their situational awareness is really poor, MGS2 is a much better example of AI that reacts to stealth well.

It's not even that you can cheese them, it's that doing so doesn't require much effort. And I already gave you an example, MGS2. Enemies will get suspicious if one takes too long to radio back, and they will methodically search and clear rooms like SWAT teams.
>>
>>376804792

Can't say I noticed too much of that going on. The only times I noticed when they would divert from their regular patrol routes is when discovering a body or hearing a gunshot or something.

They're just not great at sussing out your location. I've grabbed people in direct line of sight of other enemies and a lot of the time they didn't even react until I had already finished killing them.
