SOMEBODY ONCE TOLD ME
>>
>>376786207
Imagine if they were this honest with all their reviews
>>
>>376786207
>Obnoxious audio design

I haven't played the game but can someone tell me what he means by this?
>>
>>376786207
I think more people need to follow Bethesda's suite and not offer review copies. Prey reviews have been surprisingly honest.
>>
>>376786367
The audio balancing is fucked and also just done poorly with too many things overlapping with each other to where you can't hear important things that you need to listen to
>>
>>376786367
Music is too loud and can get annoying. Like the music picks up when nothings happening because a mimic is within a 500 ft radius or some shit. The patch on pc supposedly messes with the audio mixing so it may be better now.
>>
>>376786273
I believe we'll be entering the new era of bad reviews everywhere soon

lots of jaded reviewers that aren't getting any real support from publishers anymore

bad reviews also attract more attention and give ad revenue
>>
>>376786506
The music stings were massively toned down from the demo version.

https://youtu.be/3EZNr0TyimU?t=121
>>
>>376786553
They actually don't; not in the age of auto-archive
>>
After playing Nier:Automata, most other games just feel flat, no matter the polish or pedigree. Glad reviewers got their taste calibrated by something worth playing.
>>
>>376786207
someone forgot to pay
>>
>>376786738
>he thinks the handful that use archives make a significant difference
>>
I agree that Prey's like a 7 but it's funny, I completely disagree with him on pacing.

Early game is far more entertaining than late game because there's actual progression and challenge to the enemies - but rather than escalate with the player, enemies remain the same and after you get a healthy supply of neuromods (which can happen very early on) the game becomes permanently easy unless you purposefully neuter yourself.
>>
Just finished it. Tbqh I'd give it an 8.5/10. I really liked exploring Talos I and it was actually sufficiently challenging.
>>
>>376786842
in the niche community of gamers that actually read reviews?
most people just see the number and don't even go to the page.
>>
After reading the reviews to Prey I legitimately felt like I played a different game.

I enjoyed the fuck out of the game. The music was one of the high points for me, as was the atmosphere. The game also doesn't hold your hand at all. That part where you had to restart the generators and they had all those turrets for you deploy, only to have them taken over by the double technopaths was a highlight of the game for me.

I guess I live in a world where Bioshock infinite gets 9s and 10s.
>>
>>376786207
disagree with everything but the audio
dynamic combat music is really hit and miss
reviewers are completely retarded, I dunno why anyone still pays any attention to them
>>
>>376787319
You don't know what it's truly like

You don't know even the beginning of it. To feel like you're the only one in the world who sees the sky is blue while everybody else on the planet says the sky is red.

You don't know.

No, they weren't. Prey reviews are "gaming journalists" chimping out because Bethesda literally told them they are irrelevant. And they are.
>>

You love them though.

Here's my theory:

The entire game is itself a simulation as revealed. So we have to examine the themes and events in order to make a guess at what the simulation was intended to do. Neuromods are intended to change not only what you know but also your personality. This mod is testing Fear and Empathy. Empathy is tested over time not just by the questionnaires but whether the subject (the player) kills or saves more people on subsequent tests (playthrus). Fear is being tested by having the subject not only face external fear from physical enemies but becoming an embodiment of that fear(Typhon) itself. All while maintaining empathy. Since its all a simulation and we don't know what reality is like outside the simulation we have to make guesses based on a lack of information but vague leads. That means the entire game is a Rorschach Test for the player as well. The game has Rorschach drawings all over the place.
>>
I like how every Prey thread starts with a rating from some mainstream journalist site.

Prey is a homage to SS, isn't it.
>>

It's a good enough one to tide us over until the System Shock remake and System Shock 3.

Haven't played the game but from what I know about the game it definitely doesn't deserve these low reviews compared to all the garbage these sites give 9s all the time. Even if the game is average all around and deserves 6s and 7s this just shows how inflated the normal review scores are. It's an incredibly obvious contrast.
>>
>>376789148

Face it boys, 2017 prey is garbage.

You nu-taro fags need to stop this. The game is legitimately his best work but you're making everyone hate it like Undertale by doing that.
>>
>>376786207

Those big outlet just noted the lack of promotion and concluded that the game was something that the studio didn't care off. They played it superficially and gave it mediocre to bad ratings and that was it.

>>

It has the same problem Dying Light runs into. At first the game is extremely intense and just walking across a room to look at a computer is stressful and by the end we're just breezing through to get to the ending.

Both can be fixed with simple mods like complete removal of skill trees

>>
Looks like not giving reviewers early copies of their games really makes them more honest
>>
>>376786207
I kind of agree on score, Prey starts out as a 8-9 and then falls completely flat towards the end. When it focused more on stealth, finding new paths and ways to tackle enemies and situations it gets incredibly tedious when the only challenge become "throw tons of enemies in a room and cause the player to run passed them and devalue the atmosphere." Nitpicks include shit like too much audio/people talking. One after another people chime in tell you shit while someone else is already talking. Endings felt like shit and didn't really go anywhere, no proper conclusion or new info on anything. so yeah Prey is a solid 6 light 7.

>>376790520
Prey 2006 wasn't a gem, it wasn't even considered good at the time, I replayed it recently, it's as mediocre as I remembered.

Prey 2017 really is a game that makes you able to differentiate between the good reviewers and the bad ones because you need to understand what makes a videogame good to enjoy it.

I'm really on the fence on this one.

What I mean is SS2 was very eerie, creepy. If you turned off the music you could hear the quiet space station humming noises and it was a really great experience.
I liked Bioshock but I found it to be too 'cartoonish'.
How's this game lads?

My dream game would be a remake of SS2 on the Alien: Isolation engine/style.

Honestly you should just go for it if you liked SS2 in any way.

This type of game only comes round like every 5-10 years as a AAA

Played Prey and SS2.
I'd say it depends on the parts of the Station when it comes to atmosphere.
Some levels feel more Bioshock (Arboterum, Bridge, Shuttle Bay).
Some other more SS2 (Psychotronics, Life Support, Power Plant).

Does this version play at some point in the game, all I can remember is the version with Danielle singing.

Speaking of Danielle, can you save her? Can you kill her yourself?

>Early game is a grind
>Combat becomes satisfying and rewarding
Early game was the only fun part combat wise, what a fucking horrible reviewer. By even mid-game you can't be killed, and by late game you can basically be a demi-god with practically every skill in the game. I say this after playing through on Nightmare.

So just like Shock 2?
>>
>>376798465
Exactly - I wasn't dissing on the game so much as I was on the reviewer. I don't see how they can consider being blatantly overpowered as, "satisfying and rewarding".

because he wanted another power fantasy shoot all the people corridor shooter cinematic experience, not a slow burn sneaky wrench em up.

I seriously hope these negative reviews from the mainstream don't damage the chances of us getting anything more interesting than cinematic corridor shooters. I mean why put all this effort in if you can just make a movie game and get 10/10s across the board
>>
This just means the game will go on sale very quickly and I can pick it up for cheap.

>Dishonored that actually make an effort to move games forward
>I can see people being upset about shitty Ubisoft games
You're one narrowminded faggot, aren't you?

>I don't play them Ubisoft games because I play games only for fedoratippers such as myself
>>
>>376797572
In what way did Dishonored make an effort to move games forward? It's just a watered down version of Thief and Deus Ex, which is better than Ubisoft shit but still a regression overall.
>>
>>376801071
>muh system shock clone games
I mean Deus Ex and Bioshock have their own identity. Prey is a straight ripoff.
>>
>>376801267
Dishonored games actually put effort into level design and systems based gameplay rather than just making slightly nicer looking setpieces each year

>/v/ is full of threads for Ubisoft formula open world games that get 5-6 games like it every single year
