I couldn't get into Duke, but I can continue to mod Doom and play it.
Don't think Duke's bad, Doom's just the perfect comfort game when I need to be engaged but not have to sweat too much.
Blood was pretty sick though.

It's gotta be Doom. I respect Duke for the technical additions, but Doom totally wipes the floor in terms of weapon/enemy selection and maps/mods.

I like Duke the character far more and it holds a special place in my heart but Doom is for all intents and purposes a perfect game.

Dukje 3D was good, but nowhere near as good and as well designed as DOOM. Weapons were more creative in Duke but also less satisfying, and the monsters in Duke are shit. Like those robots that just fly into you and explode? Those enemies aren't fun, they're just annoying. Can't compare them with Lost Souls in DOOM because at least they die in a few shots and it makes sense.

I think it's the worst of the Build Trinity. Bad weapon balance and those awful doors, plus the cringeworthy cutscenes. Still a great game but Duke and SW play much better.

Download EDuke32, then find a way to extract duke3d.GRP from the steam version, I have no idea how. Supposedly you can just copy lifesabeach's GRP and force it on startup. Seek help, but it's definitely doable.

While I'm a hardcore Doomfag, it's not fair to shit on Duke like that. Yeah he's a jackass, but he's not totally one dimensional. Whereas the other Build protags just cackle like maniacs at any atrocity, Duke actually expresses regret if you frag a civilian. Even when you're mercy killing the cocooned chicks, Duke doesn't quip, he just lets out a low, angry "damn."

Plus it's kind of cute how the grizzled action movie hero genuinely seems to enjoy funfairs and water slides. For all the shithead posturing Duke's a pretty cool guy and I'd buy him a beer and a hooker.

As an anon that grew up playing DOUK. I can admit all the enemies are bullet spongey as fuck and alot of enemies are hitscan. Makes for a very tense experience on the higher difficulties.

Also I'm not the biggest fan of the horror themes, but that's not really a fault of the game. I just prefer the sillier themes of Shadow Warrior and Duke
