Yeah, I liked the fact that they addressed the scary future, but it feels like the point was just to get me emotionally invested enough to want the next game. But I feel like once the third comes out Zero will be like "Oh, Kurisu isn't the only smart person at her uni and also war is scary. You can skip it and have very minimal confusion because it's all just further developing the motive for Okabe because it barely effects the overall goal of the quest to reach the gate"...... and yeah Maho > Kagari any day. I don't regret reading it all or anything, I was just hoping for a little more payoff after getting so invested.

I thought Okabe went into the future when he shifts on Christmas until everyone else started appearing and still looked the same. I still have no idea what would've happened to cause that. Whole vn felt like a mess, especially when concerning Kagari.

No. S;G0 was meant to show how Okabe managed to overcome his suffering and find a way to reach Steins;Gate. This scene was the one that made the VN to me worthwhile.

And of course you can think of any other scene as fanservice. I really liked to see the gang together again in a way.

To be honest in terms of fully understanding the story I'd recommend only doing the true end routes. Doing the optional endings this time around being as lengthy as they really fuck up the flow of the story and left me quite dazed on what the fuck is happening. Even doing that however when you consider the progression of the story there really isn't much of anything that progresses towards the Steins;Gate timeline. Okabe regains his motivation and then we SKIP the meat of what I was hoping for, everything that lead up to their survival and existence in the hellish world. After that we skip again his journey from the future using time leaps with like two sentences to sum it all up. By the time the true end rolled around I expected like 4 hours of content and got 15 minutes.

Except only the true end conditions actually matter. Story wise everything else is totally irrelevant. The game would be 10x better if all that was cut and put more into the actual events of the story.

Fair enough, I only really completed it all because I was expecting more out of it. I'm not really too confused on the who's and what's though. I'd say the only ending that seems kinda off for me is (unfortunately) Maho's With the whole Dr. Reyes and Prof. Leskinen thing that happened and their um.... jobs apparently conflicting when in the bad end they seemed to work together.

Russia remaining communist sounds like something that would cause a world line shift into something that is neither beta or alpha if that was the case.

Simply because in most cases if it's involved it serves as the main point of story, as fap material. Instead of being intriguing/engrossing you get a wank filled experience. Not to say that's not always true but at least 90% of the time it is.

My point is that usually if the game involves it they turn the emphasis to it, the good writing of characters and plot go out the window for it. Or if it's got wild fan service like skimpy outfits out pantyshots I'll find myself going "come on this isn't believable at all" instead of getting sucked in and enjoying what's happening. Maybe it just turbo triggers me and only me but imo it majorly distracts and drops a bucket of mud on the experience/atmosphere. Corpse Party is a good example of this, all the spookyness goes out the window with a panty shot and/or talks about buttering up of poopers.
