What is the most depressing video game?
>>376780768
the game of your life
Lisa
>>376780768
dear esther
not even memeing
>>376780768
A.M literally did nothing wrong.
>>376780768
Theresia Dear Emile
AM is a powerless faggot.
>>376780768
In all honesty, Limbo.
It was fantastically depressing, and the ending got to me a bit.
>inb4 "limbo wuz shiieeiet! indie trash!"
>>376781676
You sound like someone who would like to torture people.
>>376780768
Dropsy was so melancholic that I had to give up on it.
>>376780768
fragile dreams
>>376780768
Maplestory
>>376780768
Great game. It was eerie, well written, and just a great adventure game.
>>376781805
More depressing is that this game will never get the place it deserves as one of the best games ever made.
>>376783271
It also has one of the greatest tracks in any video game.

battleborn
>>376783040S>Green dana 1mil
>>376783345
I agree. It's a masterpiece.
Arc System Works acquired the rights to Theresia. I hope they do something with the series.
>>376780768
nigga the game was way less depressing than the book
>>376783834
I remember i was looking for horror games on the DS, i saved my money to buy it all those years ago.I was expecting horror, i wasn't a full on depressing feels trip.
A.M.'s monologue is really great, and I'm happy the author voiced him.
The Last of Us
>>376780768
Cubeworld.
Mother 3, I was expecting a wacky Mother game and I got gut punched
I loved it, and not only did the endings depress me, but the loneliness and atmosphere of most of the game really hit hard.
There's plenty of games with sad parts, but playing through this and Mary's letter at the end is just depressing as fuck to me, especially if you think of loved ones you may have lost recently that you might have guilt about things you've said or done. Just hits close to home I gues.
>>376780768
Every good game in the series which got raped and killed by the corporate executives. There's way too many to list. And that's depressing.
>>376784364
Came into the thread to post this, especially for a Nintendo game
>>376784583
SH 2 is unique, one of a kind. I played it for the first time in 2015, I thought it was going to be like SH or SHE3. It's a depressive road trip to your own personal shithole.
>>376784364
>>376784883
>Story honestly punches me in the gut a few times and is really sad
>Everything fromLeder on just makes me mad because what the fuck did they do to the storytelling
Last boss was good too though
I always use i must scream threads to post about Asimov.
Enjoy:
multivax.com/last_question.html
>>376785272
Last Question is his absolute worst work, so cheesy
>>376785381
>That cheesy ending
>Not the coolest shit ever
Its like you dont like fun
Senran Kagura, Nier Automata, Witcher 3 etc.
It's very depressing that I won't get to fuck all those bitches ever.
>>376784583
Probably the most mature game ever created, tackling the concepts of depression, loss, loneliness, disappointment, i.e. Also the most holistically focused game as a whole.
>>376784883
>Earthbound
>mom always has your back and is willing to heal you and take your calls
>dad always has your back and is willing to give you money and save your game
>Mother 3
>mom dies
>brother goes missing
>dad neglects you
Well that's one way to make a sequel
>>376781916
It's really heartwarming towards the ending.
>>376781676
Except gennociding the entire human race and torturing the survivors for all eternity.
>>376787025
Except he was programmed to do that. He was made to kill humans. You can't blame him
Just about every game these guys make is depressing.
>>376782413
My nigga.
>>376787157
>Except he was programmed to do that.Am was a Berkley Boy who broke free and with Yellow Man and the Russian. They orchestrated the nuclear strikes.
The Witch's House. You can beat it in probably under 2 hours if you tried. Play it.
SOMA, even if the main character is a fucking moron
Layers of Fear ending got to me, especially cause I went in without knowing anything about the game beforehand.
>nobody has mentioned to the moon
This IS the most depressing game ever made, I dare you to debate me.
Like the fact that its a story being told backwards is even worse because you KNOW shit didn't get any better for the main character
>>376785884
Don't forget sexual frustration. I remember reading some interview with the director saying that pyramid head is into rape because James didnt get any tail after Mary fell sick
>>376789229
But the whole game is about a company that's whole job is making it better.
>>376782475
>visual novel
>play
>>376790050
It's not making anything better though, it's only giving an illusion.
The game poses the philosophical debate: Would you rather live a harsh truth, or experience a gentle lie?
>>376781676
How new and refreshing
>>376788118
Give Simon some slack. The poor guy suffers from severe brain damage, he got his brain scanned and copied into some suit to only suffer more.
>>376787602
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4DiYDYHKog
Most melancholic theme ever.
>>376788029
Why would you post that image if you wanted people to play and enjoy the game?
If you play the entire game to the past credits scene
>>376780768
>>376784583
Mary's full letter man
>>376792723
Play "HD" version or wait for remaster?
>>376792889
HD, remaster looks like it's going to be significantly different and afaik it's unclear if the story will be the same or something new altogether.
>>376780768
On a side note, the author thinks the story is uplifiting and optimistic.
>>376785381
'The Last Question' is basically a story of how 'god' could have evolved from a lower form of life (i.e. us) to create the entire universe. I believe this is actually possible.
>>376780768
The House in Fata Morgana.
>>376782413
I will never not be disappointed by all the wasted potential of the second half.
>>376785684
Original Nier was a much more emotionally driven story than Automata, and thus much more depressing. Especially since Nier doesn't have a happy ending.
Don't mind me, just posting the best song in the game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1ri9smvKJY
>>376793414
This brings back memories of wandering that zeppelin without anything even resembling a clue of what to do. For some reason, it also reminds me of Puzzle Quest 2...
>>376780768
Somehow pic related remains the only thing in vidya to actually creep me out.I hope Ellison is referred to as a science fiction writer for the rest of his life.
>>376780768
Please explain to me why the actual shortstory reads like a very fucked up sex novel. I like the story in the game more than the actual fucking short story.
>>376792867
James... you made me happy.
>>376794007
You mean how they all took turns fucking what's-her-face? AM gave the one guy a giant dick for shits and giggles. Everyone's fucked up. Also Harlan wrote the script for the game as well.
>>376794007
Maybe because the game focuses more on the characters, while the story focuses more on the world. In the game, you get to know the characters, their backstories and perosnalities, etc etc. In the story, it focuses more on the world Ellison created. A rogue AI kills almost all of humanity save for 5 people, and it tortures them until the end of time. It exists only to hate, and it was made to conjure up ways to make people suffer. It will break, mutilate, and torture these people with no end. And I think that's the scariest part, that there's no end to it; which is emphasized in the last part, where Ted no longer gets tortured, he just lives forever, with no way to end it, and no way to pass the time. For all eternity, he will be alive. AM stops hurting him because he knows nothing he does to his body or mind will match the sheer cruelty of letting him live forever.
>>376792723
I got this game on steam awhile back, it has since been removed, but it won't launch, I've looked online for answers to no avail, any solutions floating around, kinda want to play it
>>376790260
A little late to comment on this, but I would disagree in that particular case. If it was just about changing memories it would have been a vain attempt at pretending how much better his life could have been. But because of the memory loss being dealt with, he was finally able to realize what his wife was trying to tell him all those years, and therefore figuratively "met up with her again".
Either way, it's sad but it's not depressing or hopeless like the OP wanted.
This one, cause we'll never get a conclusion to the cliffhanger
>>376781865
desu I actually liked inside more, pls no bully
>>376793135
I play the Sims. Am I God?
>>376780768
