Hey /v/,

Have you ever taken your game console to prom?
>>
Real talk: He had all those Chads feeling up their dates, while he paid actual money to be embarrassed.

If he took a PS4 Pro to the prom, he might be lucky enough to get acknowledgement from Sony. With Nintendo, he ain't getting shit.
>>

I couldnt afford a Gameboy back then, too dumb to work and study at the same time so i had to devote entirely to studying just to barely finish highschool. If given the chance i would've dropped out and entered the workforce instead.

Dodged a bullet there.
We just get a fancy dinner on a fancy place and dress nice to it.

They're terrible. The only fun part about it is the excuse to dress up with friends. The prom party itself is always really lame, the best possible outcome is going to a friend's house afterwards and playing video games late into the night while wearing tuxedos.

I'm still dating my gf from high school, but she's a year older than me. We went to prom for her senior year, and it was great, but when we went for my senior year, she didn't like any of the people in my grade and just wanted to sit at the table well everyone talked and danced.
I'm still mad to this day and haven't told her. I just kept telling her I had a good time.

Exception doesn't make the rule etc.
I'm sure if everything pans out fine then it's probably a jolly good time, but what I don't like is the whole date thing where you're stigmatized if you don't get a prom date.
I just find the idea really stupid, I don't know. If you wanna ask your sweetheart out, great, but getting shunned for not doing it is pretty idiotic.
>>
>>376778208
They only held it for juniors and seniors at my school, but you could invite someone older or younger to go to prom with you. If you were a freshman or a sophomore that was invited, you looked really cool. If you invited someone that was out of high school, it looked really creepy.

> she says yes
> we go as group, we have a good time at dinner
> in prom, would barely dance let alone talk, always on her phone
> didn't even go to afterprom because she wasn't "feeling good"
> turns out she was talking to someone else who didn't go to prom, ditched me to get the dick from him

> Senior year of prom
> ask a girl that lived a town away and was quite well to be a slut so I figure why not
> she says yes
> dinner and activities go well
> during prom, she has friends in my town
> she basically piggybacks with them until afterprom, dances now and then
> but they hang with us during afterprom

I don't even know what's worse: having a date ditch you or having a date not even recognise you as a date to prom. Fuck prom, and fuck high school.
>>
>>376778993

Have you ever been to a prom? Because let me assure you, the only people that fuck afterwards are the ones that have been fucking long before they dressed up for a night out. Most of it is just awkward dancing, mediocre food, a hug, and maybe a kiss if you're lucky.

>>376779386
C'mon anon, you just said it yourself.
You didn't go to prom because you didn't get a date, which implies if you had shown up without one then you woulda gotten shit coming your way.
That's like textbook stigmatizing

Myself, we found a nice place to organize it, got some nice food to go with it, and pretty much it was everyone by themselves. You can hang out with your pals, you can invite your chick if you want as long as you pay her expenses, you can be a filthy loner and most people will probably not even notice if you stay around your family.
At least I won't be made fun of for not arriving with a date. Personally I had a chill time in my little activity, there was some dancing, there was talking, it was pleasant even though I was there by myself.

Never went to the prom and I turn down girls who want to date.
Staying single and stress free with a lot of free time and extra money to hang out with friends and do fun stuff without having to cater to someone else's needs.

Studies show that single men live longer.
It's the reverse for women though.

Exactly.

To add to my post >>376779347 it didn't help that in high school my best friend who was a girl dated my other friend, and left me behind.

> Junior year
> have a best friend who was a girl I have known since elementary school
> become best friends since freshman year
> no love or first moves or anything, we only liked each other as friends
> just awesome times
> thought I should add someone to the fun, my friend Luke
> all 3 of us hangout in fall of junior year, just having fun times
> January comes around, luke and girl anon date
> was depressed and sad because my best friend ditched me for him and I thought I was close to dating her
> was also depressed because all my friends had girlfriends and I was just the single lonely guy
> she didn't even treat me the same as before they dated, she turned into a cold hearted bitch that hated me

I actually thought about doing something equally retarded for prom. I went through like 4 different dates, spanning from girlfriends who dumped me, a co-worker who was 30 years older than I was, and then eventually I ended up going with a mutual friend. We've been together for 11 years now.
>>
>>376780640
That would just make it easier. Someone nowadays can accept a 2 gay dudes being their parents, but 2 straight dudes? It would just confuse them thinking that their parents aren't together romantically.
>>
>>376780893
To be fair, straight men-only couples are easily the most discriminated-against demographic.

>>376780269
They just sat at the table all through it while I went about my way.
Besides, that was just one of the activities, more like the formal one mostly. We also went on like a camp thing for a couple days.

The one where most people go wild goes along the lines of each gender renting a bus, then go picking up the opposite gender to their places really late at night, buckling up all the people, make a mess in the bus with music and alcohol, then go to a nice place with pools or similar installations to get drunk further, dance and if it gets raunchy enough then maybe virginity breaking left and right with little to no adult supervision until dawn breaks.
That one was pretty fun to me, but there was no banging involved in mine, not that I know of at least, and I stayed sober on both so I would know. It was mostly hangovers and dancing and a little pool fun with sunburns. And it was twice because once from us guys to the chicks, then from them to us.

All in all, I'd rather have this way of end of school celebrations instead of the shitty prom traditions you get.
>>
>>376781269
Yeah well to each his own buddy. I had a great time.
>>
>>376781149
They're underrepresented in the media, really. There's really nothing wrong with two straight dudes just raising a kid together and sleeping in the same bed, but not many understand. I mean, sometimes you hug a little and give each other kisses, but just because it's two straight dudes people get all up in arms about it.

Do NOT do this. Let sleeping dogs lie. If you do this, and you wind-up going to one of your Reunions, you will be mercilessly mocked.

To those of you who are too young to know what a Reunion is like, think of it as High School with 48 year olds who are pretending to be 18 year olds, and who fall into the EXACT same cliques they had 30 years prior. No matter how much they have matured since High School, they WILL revert to their juvenile idiocy demeanor. ESPECIALLY if they've been even moderately successful in life.

Just don't do it, Anon. Save yourself the heartache. Save yourself the humiliation. Save yourself the anguish. She's gone. Just accept it, don't be a creepy stalker.

Oh sweet, naive Anon. It doesn't matter if they matured. As soon as they get back together they revert right back to their old teenage mentality all over again.

Fuck man, how many movies have been based on this one single concept? The pack of old high school/college buds who get together after 30 or so years and, even though they're now doctors or lawyers or businessmen, they revert right back to how they behaved way back when because that is how they're used to behaving around each other? Where the joke is "old guys/girls acting like their kids but now with joint pain and medication schedules"?

News flash, Anon: Those movies aren't based on nothing. That is how people behave. Take it from an old fag who went to his Reunion out of curiosity and left after 20 minutes in sheer disgust.

long distance.

Her mom planned it out so it happened right after my junior prom. It was cute but I remember just sitting there and eating shitty shrimp cocktails.
>>
>>376785226
I just mean that if he messages her or reaches out to her not at a reunion.
>>
>Junior year
>Huge crush on this girl for the longest time but too beta to do anything
>start hearing a rumor she wants me to ask her to prom
>figure it's just my friends fucking with me, don't do anything about it
>eventually girl texts me asking me when i'm going to ask her
>finally a real date with a real woman
>we decided to go too late and most dinner groups already have reservations, we'd have to go alone
>she doesn't want it to be just us
>no longer a real date with a real woman
>invite some friends who aren't going to prom to eat with us
>day comes, pick her up, her mom takes a ton of pictures
>give her the nicest corsage i could afford
>go out to eat with said friends, it still was a much better experience than expected
>go to the school to wait for the grand march and get our pictures taken
>having a great time, she seems really into me and flirty
>finally a real interaction with a real woman
>grand march finishes, go to the actual dance part
>she doesn't really want to dance much, we just sit and we talk, which is impossible because the music is too loud
>about 45 minutes in she says she wants to leave
>no longer a real interaction with a real woman
>we end up going to hang out with some of our friends who didn't attend
>watch some shitty movies and sit in silence
>time to take her home
>whole night was pretty terrible but i figure it was now or never
>ask her if she'd like to do more stuff together, just us
>she gives a weird excuse and mumbles some "just friends" stuff
>i was expecting that, but still let down
>as I drive home I slowly realize she just used me to say she went to prom

And that's why most women are shit. She cut ties with all her friends from high school so she could "discover herself," but then realized she had no friends left and couldn't make any, and now she's pretty much a loner.
>>
>>376785683
So you went to prom with an autist?
>>
>>376783002
>dating a 14yo when you're a senior
Why would you do this?

>two months before prom the ugliest girl at school who I hadn't even talked to once comes to my door to ask me to go with her
>wasn't really planning to go with anyone and my mom was staring daggers into the back of my head so I felt pressured into going with her
>find out later that my friend was going to prom with the girl I liked
>end up ditching my date after the opening parade and just going back home to play videogames
>she hates me to this day
>on the bright side, the girl I like is still single
Did I do good bros?
>>

nah you suck fag
>>
>>376786190
>opening parade
What the fuck is this? I don't think my prom did this.

Consider this:
1. Why has she made no move to reach out to him? She either doesn't care, she's moved on in her life, or she's too humiliated in regards to how she treated him. That last option is very unlikely - it's just how their minds are wired. Women will reconnect with other women, but NOT with other men unless they're family or it's entirely accidental.
2. At the end of their friendship, she treated him like dogshit. Why should *he* go crawling back to make contact to **her**?
3. What would even be the point? He's going in to contact her from a position of desperation - in that of wanting to know how SHE is without anything to show in his life that he's moved on from her. She WILL see this as weakness and an attempt, even if untrue, of a decade long/pathetic desire to get into her pants. Again, it's how they think.

I would support his desire to try to reconnect with his old BFF if he had little league/girl scout and wedding photos to share (and is still married/committed) and stories to tell, but in ANY other way not a chance in fucking hell.

>tfw took my cousin to prom
>tfw not even trolling

Lied to all my friends and told them it was a family friend (she was 25 I was 18)
>>
>>376786321
That makes sense. I see your point, anon. I guess I just feel for the anon and it sucks that it happened to him. I've been ditched before.
>>
>>376786421
>(she was 25 I was 18)
My school made it so no one over 21 could go. How the fuck did you get a 25 year old to prom?
>>
>>376777657
It was fun, but I love dressing up, so I'm biased. I went as friends with this one girl and we ended up ignoring each other for the whole night, which was fine
>>
>>376776964
Thank god we don't have these proms here
>>
>>376777657
I went as a meme and won prom king because my highschool career was literally a meme
7/10 didn't get laid but it was cool driving a car with my buddies
>>
>>376786517
im guessing he didnt go to your school
>>
>>376786305
Sone fucking retarded thing the thots that were the class representatives thought up. They just wanted to show off their dates.
>>
>>376777657
Pretty dumb, but they're okay if you plan to just have fun and dance. People try to get all emotional because it's the last thing you do with most of the people you've been in school with for years, but they don't really comprehend how insignificant those people and memories will be once they get older.

I asked some random girl to go, and then went and danced with a shitload of random other people. I remember it being fun, and that the food was underwhelming.
>>
>>376786716
How can you bring a 25 year old to a high school thing. I just mean that like, that's really old.
>>
>>376786451
It's a fact of life. And life is about moving on from what brought you pain.

>>376786421
At least you went. After my third "fuck-off" from girls I thought I was at least friends with and I knew weren't dating anyone I decided not to bother.

At my prom there was a kid who showed up in a camo tuxedo and a John Deere hat. My Prom was 6 years ago and I still bring him up in casual conversation
>>
>>376786779
I'm only 24, but I know fully well I'd be incredibly out of place among high school seniors, no matter cool some of them might think I am. Going to a prom right now sounds absolutely dreadful.
>>
Like I gave enough of a fuck to make some attempt at a joke out of going alone.

Going meant I got to wear a white jacket suit and was given money to go get fuck faced, and I didnt have to be one of those anons who's like >tfw just stayed at home
I imagine a lot of people who sat home because they had no one to go with were just looking for another reason to pity themselves.

I think my guidance councilor felt sorry for me since she knew I had no friends. I had to fill out a form for her to go

This, I'm 24 and I felt incredibly uncomfortable going to my 17 year old sister's school play
>>
>>376786150
She thought I was cool, she liked me and she let me grab her mosquito bites.
Why wouldn't I?
>>
>>376787123
Why do you feel uncomfortable going to watch a show?
>>
>>376786779
Probably didn't bring ID and looked young. I had a cousin I could've gone with (and she would've had a blast since we weren't raised near one another so less familial feelings) AND she was adopted into the family (so only a little ick), but we looked WAY too much alike. I'm also pretty certain she had a crush on me.

>I just ignored and avoided her most of the time like an idiot because I didn't know how to act around girls

It's for the best you didn't end up together. She probably would've been unhappy getting stuck with someone so pathetic.
>>
>>376787173
Because everyone in the audience seemed very invested in it while I couldn't have cared less about it.
>>
>>376787287
Was she cute, smart and charming? If she was 2 or more of those you should definitely end your life dude.
