How would you make a good Starship Troopers game?
If FPS, a good SP campaign would be mandatory.
12 multi stage missions, minimum of half an hour each.
1st would be tutorial with first stage showing you the ropes and the rest would be war games against your buddy Troopers.
after that you'd need a defense mission
a stealth mission
a landing mission
a retreat/breakthrough
a counter attack mission
another bigass landing mission
final bigass attack mission
as for the MP part of the game, shit I have no idea? balancing the bugs would probably be hard af... maybe have an asymmetrical type of mod where a few Troopers would have to fight of hordes of player controlled bugs and each team bug player would control a number of fast but weak bugs, while Troopers would be stronger but would only have a single life each. maybe make a ranged *brood warrior* type of bug that would be similar to Trooper and have them duke it out regular fps style. also Troopers vs even bigger bug AI controlled bug swarm - kids love their zombie mod
any suggestions?

EDF
or the old RTS

Movie Starship Troopers or book Starship Troopers?
The enemies would be quite different, movie is a mass of angry literal bugs and book is smart lads that use guns and fly space ships

Book, there already is a movie FPS game.

Play up how horrible Klethandu was for those that were there.
Kinda like a sci-fi Spec Ops or something.Have this play in the credits https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PT1afUWV8N8

Then I make an (asymmetrical?) RTS game
I haven't read the book and when you say "two armies fight" I think of RTS
I can imagine a fun mechanic where humans have a limited pool of recruits and you can spend money on propaganda to get more recruits
The units in the game would be composed of multiple soldiers, it's far zoomed out so it's neither Starcraft (1 space marine symbolizes a group) nor Dawn of War (clunky as fuck squads, game is close up)

By buying Helldivers
Follow the ridiculous(ly awesome) first movie, but have you as a raw recruit fighting alongside Rico and company. The imagery, the camp, the propaganda, everything could be properly translated into a game and it'd be great.
I'd go third person and use games like Vanquish or Binary Domain as inspiration. No sticky cover though, make the focus fast and quick gun battles and other over the top craziness. Maybe have a playable psychic class, with Niel Patrick Harris reprising his role as the psychic from the movie. "They're afraid!"
Honestly even if it bombed I'd buy it day 1.
