Release a main game. That's really the only way to start. What other way could they do it? Her inclusion in Smash Bros. currently serves as a reminder she exists. Another side game would cause it to get bad reception before a new main game comes out. Creating a movie/show/comic/manga without being complemented by a new game may stir more shit again. I could be wrong with all of this, but that's what I predict would happen without an actual new game. Metroid isn't a money maker, but I don't know another way to approach it.

First of all they need to stop playing coy with the fucking series. Metroid has NEVER been a series for young kids in its content. Its entire premise is essentially genocide, involves biological fucking weapons, and a culture of murderous space pirates that seems to be made up of a fuckload of different species from insectoids to reptilians.

They need to go hard Sci-Fi or just stop. Metroid Prime did this right. In Metroid Prime you fight the tortured ghosts of dead aliens reanimated by a substance that is also a highly radioactive biohazardous mutagen.

So, to answer your question, they need to take Metroid seriously.

Best way to do that? Make a Federation Marines game where you play as a normal human using normal human technology trying to shut down a Space Pirate-run metroid breeding program. Contextualize Samus as a character by making Space Pirates a serious problem and Metroids a deadly insurmountable enemy that must be avoided at all costs.

Then at the end of the game they can do a segment where you play Samus in her powersuit and completely thrash scores of enemies in the classic end-of-game-super-powered-murder-rampage cliche.

A new Metroid where you play as a different bounty hunter with similar but not quite the same powers. Make Samus the final boss. Something something, the Metroid aren't really the bad guy (kinda like with Zerg in Starcraft). Obviously make it a nice big 2D game. As big as Hollow Knight at least. The bar has been raised. Samus should be DOOMguy tier because she is GRRL SPEES MURINE and her games have always been about jumpan and rollan not hunkeran and coveran.

Fanservice shots can be done in a Dead Space type fashion where Samus steps out of her armor to reveal her Zero Suit while her suit gets upgraded. Have an NG+ mode only where Samus can run the whole campaign in Zero Suit.
